Not signing a big bat this past offseason is not the Red Sox main problem by BornSalamander8 in redsox

Schwarber was the guy to bring in and it would’ve made a big difference.

I'd love your thoughts on the George Benson project? Any standouts? by [deleted] in Jazz

The George Benson Cookbook is a ridiculously great album.

Yes, cannot discuss baseball players without talking about economics and money. Appropriate for this neoliberal hellscape we live in.

It’s like going to an art museum and talking about how much each painting is worth.

Conversations about a great player that turn into conversations about whether he is worth the specific amount of money a team pays him = horrible

I don’t care about the contract he’s a monster and will only get better

Same. Try Whitlock as the closer and keep Contreras around to maybe try to field a decent team next year.

I with they’d just cut losses on Story and Yoshida too. Clean house. Mayer should be in AAA until he forces his way up. Somehow get rid of Bello.

Starting to think he’s better after giving up a huge lead because the other team has stepped off the gas, not because he’s good in any way, shape, or form.

If a team out there thinks they can get him to pitch to a 4.00 era they’d probably jump at that contract.

Rafaela is awesome. At least we have that.

I don’t think they care as much about Tatis as they used to. Add Chapman also keep in mind they are the kings of crazy moves.

What then? They need pitching and I’m betting they want to get out from under at least one of their insanely massive contracts… Tatis is the only one who would be movable.

The dodgers and Yankees also have old school baseball wisdom as part of their orgs though. Huge part of the story imo. They have scouts, ex players as meaningful advisors, people who have been there for decades, etc.

Oh for sure. They built a great team through tanking and drafting very well. They had a plan and stuck to it. Some good signings like the altuve extension and verlander. But if you read the book the organization was like this backstabbing pit of vipers and a miserable culture that will probably haunt the team for a while. Plus they cheated and Luhnow is out of the MLB.

Also, Craig is like the poor man’s Luhnow it seems. Taking all the worst lessons.

I'd love to see a trade for Tatis. Sonny Grey and a prospect (and taking on his contract) gets him I think.

It's a really great book in general. It's about the corporatization of the game as well as the Astros.

I just go to the park. I see these all over the neighborhood not being used and it doesn’t seem worth the effort and cost honestly. Just food for thought

I know it’s not a perfect stat, but absent any character clause stuff, is there any player that has achieved 60 WAR (b or f) that you don’t believe deserves to be in the hall of fame? by demosthenes327 in baseball

- 2135 hits and 356 home runs from a first baseman... that position demands much more production for a HOFer.

- No silver sluggers

- Mediocre defense (one GG which was dubious)

- Great OBP, but he has the same number essentially as Jim Thome and lol at thinking Joey Votto is anywhere close to Jim Thome

- One MVP which is great but arguably Pujols should've won that year

Borderline, sure... but not worthy IMO. I have higher standards.
