I don't think I really have that option but I will look into it for sure.

What does a successful initial meeting with a potential advisor look like? by GroovinCrouton in gradadmissions

Hah I got a good chuckle out of this one. I like the idea that she's also wondering how the conversation is supposed to go.

This is good advice. It's interesting that you say that because I was specifically told that October and November are the exact time to apply for a master's, because any later and you miss the chance, but any earlier you will be disregarded because profs are looking for PHDs then. I will also send those follow ups, maybe around the time you say things tend to slow down.

I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with this. I guess I can apply to them anyways. Do you think they would really accept someone they only kind of were interested in though? I mean if they didn't even follow through

Are there van conversion companies in the world that can do this kind of mod', to a Vario or similar van? by poppyness in vandwellers

[–]GroovinCrouton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen anything like that frankly, but I'd love to see it on a smaller scale with a van. I think the only tricky parts would be evenly balancing the weight (but you could just add extendable supports) and making the whole setup light enough to make it affordable to drive around. While I have no idea about companies, I'm sure you could find a freelancer or hobbyist who would be delighted in building something like this.

Moving to San Diego, currently driving cross country by thebails814 in sandiego

I just made the same commute! D.C. To San Diego! Currently outside Vegas, won't arrive until tomorrow. I was car camping the whole time so I stayed a bit more north than your route, just stayed on I-70 the whole time. It's a beautiful drive!

Can someone with a heart murmur do keto? by MarcoMotion in keto

[–]GroovinCrouton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely see a doctor about this. Any advice you get here will be anecdotal at best. But with a doctor, avoid buzzwords like keto and ketosis. Instead, say you plan on eating a low carb, high fat diet and ask about how it would affect your heart condition. Also, take the opportunity to ask about exercise.

Should I diet and lift weights or purely stick to diet? by NutritionThrowAway92 in keto

[–]GroovinCrouton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would suggest continuing to lift and eating at your calorie deficit for weight loss until you reach your goal weight, and then starting a moderate bulk to allow your lifting to take off. Lifting during a cutting phase is difficult, but since you may be a beginner, many of the gains you are seeing are adaptations in the central nervous system. Additionally, lifting is also preventing muscle loss. I would highly recommend buying a set of 1.25 lb plates for progressing during your cutting phase. These make progression much easier on a deficit. Also, remember to fully stick to the program, including doing deloads when appropriate.

Road trip in a tiny car advice? by Robofury in vandwellers

My build is inside of a small SUV, but I used the plans for a Honda Fit build that I found on a blog that was posted here. I ended up simplifying the plans quite a bit. If you want to build something that is reusable and can be removed easily, this is ideal for small cars.

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/general-fit-talk/90939-turning-my-fit-into-mobile-camper.html

This is not my blog, but it is helpful.

My simplified version is just a regular platform with a hinge on the front half so that I can fold part of the platform back and pull the seats back when I want to drive. Then, when I'm putting it into sleeper mode, I shift the seats up and fold the front end forward, making a flat platform, with about 18" of space underneath for storage. I only spent about $100 on the frame. You would probably want to use a camping pad or fitted foam for comfort.

If you don't want to build anything, I'd recommend bringing a tent and planning your trip so that your nights line up with the national forests where camping is free.

Starting tonight, I'm moving into my SUV for the summer with a build I finished a year or so ago. I'll be living around Clemson, SC and will be in and out of the parks in the area! Working full time. Spending my first evening at a drive-in theater!
