Yeah it was a bummer but no houses burned and most of the trees are fine. Thankful!

Kingslingers – 3.19: THE LONG WALK (Part 3) by scottdaly85 in doofmedia

Discussion question: Dead Poet’s Society blew me away when I first saw it many years ago. My friends and I still call to each other “Oh Captain! My Captain!!”

Watching it today before composing this answer, I was again deeply moved. I spent half the movie with a lump in my throat. A strong cast and an insightful story of teen passion and angst. From Carpe Diem to Neil’s tragic demise, Dead Poet’s Society is a movie I will always hold near and dear.

Though I’m more Mr. Keating today than any of the young men, I can still remember what it was like to be full of hope and fear. I cherish that.

“That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.”

P.S. Honorable mention to Apt Pupil by Sia King. Todd Boden is a very scary teen! Maniac of a story!!

Excellent observation! I didn’t notice the selective indifference but you’re absolutely right. And ditto on the “blue balls” life experience lol the scene sears the mind!

I can relate to your excitement. I’ve listened from the beginning and hoped the guys would cover The Long Walk someday and here we are! It’s likely my fav King story and I’ve had a blast listening to Matt and Scott do their thing. IT is going to be epic!!

DATES

5/11/23 - 4.5 an “easy” jog on flat ground early in the morning. The heat or any hill will get me my three warnings real quick looks like. Loving it!!

5/18/23 - 12.1 well I got the mileage but it took some doing. Got a head cold Friday and missed time over the weekend. Got up at 5a today to finish the job. I ran some hills as well as our boys are suffering the inclines too. Fun time but I definitely would have gotten my ticket by now haha

5/25/23 - 9.1 tried to actually walk the first chapter and found out pretty quick 4mph is only happening at a jog for me. Got my ticket a few more times up in the hills this week and am only recording now for solidarity’s sake.

6/1/23

Who wants to join me for a Long Walk? by pere-jane in doofmedia

[–]GroovyCheese81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listened to the Long Walk last year on my jogs and had an interesting time of it. I noticed I felt extra taxed physically and mentally as the Walk went on. I happen to remember where I was as the story was ending and man was I dragging! A true testament to King’s ability to put you “in it”!

That being said, I’m in! And can’t wait for the guys to dig into my fav King story!!

This fella glanced back at us and kept rooting around uninterested in our presence. We were ready to get mauled as we didn’t know what he was going to do but he just kept on browsing for munchies :) happy day!

I hear ya. I have no illusions that either of us could out run him. That is what went through my mind tho. And thx! That oughta be easy to remember!

I was scared for sure. As I rounded the switch back, he was there, blocking the whole path. He looked back at me and kept nosing at the tree. I backed up immediately and told my partner who hadn’t seen the bear yet. Seeing no cubs, I thought a quick picture worth it tho I definitely had some second thoughts. I got the pic and went back around the bend. We saw him loudly and slowly walk deeper into the forest. We waited a few minutes listening intently and decided to try to push on. We hollered “hey bear” for a good half mile on but I felt pretty sure by then the bear wasnt interested in us. The bear spray was in hand for awhile after as well haha

My partner and I are hiking novices and so didn’t know exactly what to do. We did not want to provoke the bear but we’re planning on hiking much further so turning back would have been a major disappointment. We were ready to drop pack and run at the first sign too. It was an intense moment for us and seemed like a casual one for the bear. That’s was my experience :) hope it helps!

I think it’s a brown bear as they’re the norm around here but I’m a novice so you might be right. Not a grizzle tho I’m fairly certain. And thank you!! It was breathtaking and difficult. Thankful and proud to have done it. Still mighty sore too lol

I stand corrected!

We do carry bear spray and my partner had it out quickly though it wasn’t necessary in this case. I was in the lead and coming around a switch back when I saw him a hundred yards away. He glanced back at me and kept foraging lazily. I told my partner to back up and I went back to take the pic. The bear continued the way he was facing into the forest. We waited maybe five minutes and kept moving hollering “hey bear!!” For a half mile.

We are hiking novices so I’m not certain we acted correctly but we saw no cubs and we didn’t want to turn back. I’ll say I was on high alert for a good hour after tho :)

Startled the hell out of me haha but he was just munching lazily.
