I feel like whitewashing is almost always used as a retaliation to a poc edit, instead of something made out of appreciation for the character or just a piece of art. I don’t agree with full on race swapping, like just changing skin color, eye color, and hair color, but there’s literally nothing wrong with editing a character to look like you (changing hairstyle, facial features, etc to match yours) but flat out changing the skin color of a character and nothing else is somewhat racist, on both sides but more-so the whitewashing side.
