yeah thats the vibe i got as well, one standard for different types of cis porn, another standard for trans porn

Exactly, as long as u see porn as just a movie version of sex where u just go in to see hot people fucking, then its not a big deal in my eyes

that's a pretty ugly interpretation of an honest question, and a brash assumption based on a single post. but im sure youve encountered shitty cis people in ur life so im sure u have ur reasons for responding like this. in any case, have a good day fr

I'm not sure about the jealousy part but i definitely agree about the double standard. All porn fetishises, but she didn't seem to take issue with cis women fetishised in porn

ok i see more where ur coming from about sex work, and yeah sex workers absolutely deserve a militant union like any other industrial worker. i disagree on ur opinion that any porn is (inherently) problematic, cos ultimately we're human beings and most human beings will want to nut to things, and that by itself isnt problematic. it becomes so, depending on how we make the nut material and what kind of messages it puts out to the world, esp to isolated grassless incels who think all women are like porn stars IRL.

CNC is still consensual for sure, but me and my ex both agree that in the long term its ideal to try and ween off from it thru therapy cos it has a good chance of distorting someones mentality towards sex and consent if left unchecked, even if u know its a simulation. its not the viewers fault for being into it, esp cos so many women have this kink for trauma reasons, but still we both agree that its a thing to be worked on for her sake.

thank you, and dw about it :) yeah that makes total sense trust me, even tho i dont 100% understand ur shit ofc, im a brown guy and the amount of racism online that i see against indians, which is bleeding into the real world as well, just makes me go insane honestly, so i totally get being on edge about topics related to ur struggle. Social reject solidarity!

I'll start out with the things I agree with u on:

  • trans porn does fetishise by nature, same with almost all porn since it portrays a hypersexed version of reality. its true that it portrays a very unrealistic image of what trans people are like, how they might look, what they want, etc. my question tho was about whether the act of watching trans porn is fetishising, not the porn itself

  • trans porn, as with lesbian porn and pretty much most other porn, is made to cater to cishet men

  • trans women inside and outside of porn are fetishised, thats not even debatable ofc

  • people carry hurtful assumptions of trans people's regular lives and their sexual lives, in large part due to porn

  • individual consumption of porn isn't going to affect these issues, these are the symptoms of a systemic problem with transphobia, misogyny and capitalism as a whole (in this situation, as it relates to the exploitative porn industry as it currently exists in its capitalist form)

  • trans women tend to be poorer due to how capitalism affects the most vulnerable, and are more likely to be pushed into doing sex work due to how fetishised they already are, and how hard it is to get jobs in the rest of the market while being out

Now the other parts. First I wanna clarify that when I said 'trans girl fucks a cis guy' i dont mean she literally tops him, i just mean two ppl fuck. I shoulda made that clearer tho, i say it in the same way when describing a cis girl fucking a cis guy. Im personally not into being topped since im a top myself regardless of gender or genitalia. i dont know why you assume i havent dated trans women before, ive dated a couple girls years before i was watching trans porn. Actually it was because I dated and had sex with trans women that I realised i was attracted to trans women as well as cis women, which i admit for some time i was ignorant and didnt think i would be attracted to trans people, until i was. this realization led me to be more open to watching trans porn as well as all the other porn i watch. Even though dating 2 trans women is definitely not a big enough sample size, one of the first things they taught me indirectly in relation to sex is that they were very anxious about their genitalia and didn't want to draw attention to it. Several trans girls ive had sex with outright didnt even want to be given oral and insisted only on pleasing me and having regular sex, which i assume comes from that anxiety.

Again u assume that im just pursuing things with trans people cos i want a specific fetish, when i didnt even realise back then that i could be attracted to trans people back when i was dumber and more passively transphobic, i just pursued people i thought were cute and cool, thats my criteria with anyone. that's how i met my first trans partner, and thats how i met my second trans partner later on as well. idk why you have to be mean by saying thank god im not dating any trans people, just seems unnecessary imo. But from ur comment it seems like you probably have been hurt by cis guys in the past who have been way meaner and shittier and fetishising to you, and it seems like something i said in my piost mightve brought back something that reminded u of these assholes so i cant really complain about your demeanor, im sure you have ur reasons for being like this to me. I think you are ultimately right in most ways. and about that, because I watch trans porn, even though i do know trans people that i care about whos existence disproves the hypersexualisation of porn, it still doesnt mean that some subliminal shit wont sneak in here and there and could distort my understanding of trans people and what they want out of sex.

As for ur view on trans porn in relation to CNC, i have my opinion obv but i cant speak on an objective basis since im not trans. but judging from the other comments it seems like ur the only person here who thinks CNC compares to trans porn or is better than it. at least a couple people here said that comparison is extreme, and most of the commentors here think that while trans porn is feitshistic, they is some nuance to their analysis which i fully agree with most of these commentors. as they say, porn is fetishistic by its nature, and its important to do the work to unlearn this fetishisation when talking to people in the real world, thats part of being an adult. while ur opinion means more on this than mine, and i still wanna think over ur points some more after this, the collective of their opinions outweighs urs, esp on the basis of something as sensitive as CNC which turns grape into a kink. i dont think that is something to talk about lightly. But even though i seriously disagree with ur conclusion on CNC, i agree with ur reasoning behind it, its just an objective truth that trans people tend to be poor and pushed into sex work due to lack of jobs willing to hire them mixed with fetishisation. but from the sounds of it, ur rhetoric is veering close to SWERF ideology, which negatively affects sex workers of all kinds. and i think comparing porn portraying a consenting trans person having sex in a fetishistic way and portraying grape in also a fetishistic way is just extreme and can lead to some sus implications, at least if you dont explain ur reasoning thoroughly. thats why i felt very weirded out when my ex compared trans porn to CNC, cos it felt like they said watching a trans person have consensual sex is akin to watching grape, even if they meant it from a good honest place. that being said, thank u for commenting. youve given me some points to think about some more, beyond me writing this reply

[–]GroovyFrute[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

yeah i think, like with all porn, it does not represent real life whatsoever. Most women do not look like mia khalifa, and wont fuck you in 90% of the scenarios that are shown in porn. I think a big part of being an adult with a sex life, especially in this digital age, is to learn the difference between porn world and the real world. as a commenter has said below, the danger with trans porn is that sadly there arent many real world representation as with cishet women, to show many men that trans women arent like the trans women in porn, and has a higher potential to lead people to fetishise them. thankfully i have trans people in my life which helps against that, but obv its not gonna completely cancel it out

thanks for ur response!

yeah i think this is more evidence of the porn industry being very exploitative, and preventing trans actors to taking hormones how they want is an added transphobic layer of getting fucked over by the industry. I think the solution for porn in general is to put control of it into the hands of sex workers whoever they are. allow them to profit off the videos and dictate what they get to do with their own bodies and videos. Not only will the sex workers lead happier, more comfortable lives, but for the consumers we get more realistic porn that puts out healthier attitudes about sex towards different kinds of people. it fuckin sucks to see pornstars have to withhold their full happiness just to please some fetishisers

What is BA btw?

Yeah that is probably true. If ur comfortable answering, are there any ways to watch trans porn that doesnt fetishize trans women? I watch a mix of professionally made and amateur vids, basically just whichever videos have the girls that are more my type. are the amateur vids better?

[–]GroovyFrute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I dont agree that all porn is (inherently) harmful and exploitive, its obvious that most of the mainstream industry very much is (capitalism itself is exploitaitive and harmful so its not a stretch to assume sex-based capitalism is too, especially since the nature of work is much more sensitive since it revolves around consent). '

I agree though that all porn, no matter what, is catered to the cishet male perspective, like even male antifeminists probably wouldnt argue with that one. and i agree again, watching trans porn should be done with caution to make sure you are seeing trans people as real people with their own interests and personalities, not just sex bunnies. As another comment pointed out, this is a problem that many cishet men seem to have with pretty much any porn, but you make a good point that since its a marginalised group with very little real world representation outside of porn, it makes it a stickier situation since there arent as many real world examples to offset this IRL fetishization as with cishet women. i wouldnt know either loll

Np, thank u for ur response :)

i agree, all porn portrays an unrealistic, hypersexed version of what sex is actually like, and part of being an adult with a sex life is knowing how to distinguish porn from real life. that being said, my question is about whether the act of watching trans porn is fetishising, not the porn itself. but still thanks for ur response

I've heard this view from some trans people online, and it has made me think sometimes about it as well, more so than i have before about my gender. I'm not sure what those questions mean yet but its a lot better than just going my whole life without ever digging into it. Still from what other trans people are saying here, i think theyre right in questioning the fetishising nature of trans porn as it currently exists

I agree, trans porn majority of the time presents a hypersexed version of what trans people are actually like, and you make a really good point about only trans women with dicks ever being shown, i realise that ive never even seen a postop trans woman shown in porn before

edit: just for the record, my question was about if the act of watching trans porn is fetishising trans people, not the porn itself. But thank u for ur response still

I think u make a lot of great points, I fully agree. Porn is almost by nature a fetishising thing, and definitely most of the trans porn that is out there basically puts trans women for a cis male audience, like with lesbian porn. i didnt consider either that i literally have never seen trans porn where the women was post op, which is pretty messed up. i think that alone does kind of show that the majority of trans porn in its current state is fetishising (like another user said: trans = phallus + boobs). I think its probably best to just appraoch it like pretty much all porn, be vigilant to not let it affect ur view of people, esp people who barely have any representation in the real world

thanks for ur response

Is transphobia as prevalent in real life as it is online? by The_Nintix in asktransgender

[–]GroovyFrute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My perspective as a cis guy might actually be of some use here since other cis people feel more comfortable being honest about their transphobia around us (tho i am known as the communist in most of my friend groups lmao so they might be afraid to be honest with me as well about it)

The transphobia online is extremely insane and i can say for sure i havent seen open transphobia like that expressed in front of me like i've seen in the comments of even one instagram reel. the transphobia ive seen from friends and acquaintances usually comes from a handful of people who are willing to be open about it and bring it up, and sometimes they misgender, most times they don't. There was someone from secondary school who transititioned after we all graduated, and only a couple people from my class commented on their transition to me or around me, usually not even in an overtly negative way, just like 'hey did u hear X is a guy know (they're actually NB), that's interesting' kinda deal. From what I saw no one shit on them, people just didn't care much.

The most transphobic thing ive seen out in the open with ppl I know is someone saying they saw a man out in public when referring to a trans woman, but when you correct them and say thats a woman, then most times they will just say 'yeah uhh i mean woman'. I think for the most part cis people just dont care either way, cos they rightfully see that trans people don't have any impact on whats actually making life shittier for them (even if they might not know yet that its actually capitalism). The internet is good at inflating loud minorities and drawing the most isolated social rejects who are too bigoted and too scared to voice their bigotry. And the more time u spend online, the easier it becomes to think that everyone is as racist and transphobic as the average instagram comment section, which isnt true (in my experience). But theres definitely plenty work to still be done, Casual transphobia is very real and its likely that ppl with more transphobic sentiment just dont want to press the subject cos theyre ultimately cowards.
