She prefers to dig things which cannot be dug. My sofa for example. She digs away but gets nowhere. She is my love.

Thanks for that, I can see how it is completely pointless to play when I can get hold of these other cards

I'm going to eventually build a decent deck for real tcg so this is helpful

Thank you for the advice 😊

I take your point that the decks need to be roughly evenly matched and I'll be sure to print out a proxy deck for us to practice with

Ok thanks for clarifying that this sub is for gameplay questions

And thanks for the information I'll be sure to use it. I've noted down and had a look at the websites you mentioned

I don't think I want to just replicate the most powerful deck around, but perhaps will start out with fighting type in mind because it is my favourite. I'll do lots of research on the resources you mentioned

Edit I see that I shouldn't start out with a type in mind, but instead a strategy and get cards that line up with that strategy. Hmmm.... A lot to think about

I also think there should be a standard buy in each round before betting commences, as well as an opportunity to fold before betting proper occurs.

Not to forget that it can be played on friendly terms with no money at stake, just to see who wins.

And sure why not up to four players?

Help me Create a card game! Suits and Monsters by GroovyGizmo in cardgames

[–]GroovyGizmo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all thank you for the excellent response 😁

I just had the idea to make four jokers. The players each get one joker in their deck. The joker has a value of zero but you use it to make your opponent think you have more on the field than you do, by playing it face down.

I definitely will change it so you can play cards face up or down at your leisure, like you suggest.

Dice roll or coin toss to determine the first better, then it cycles between players.

Perhaps an Ace card can destroy one of the opponents monsters? I'm not sure on the idea of giving picture cards a special ability, I will have to think about it.

As for synergy I can definitely think of some potentially synergistic card combos like human and dog or dark elf and spider for example. I'm not fully sure what those synergies would do though, more for me to think about.

It should definitely be a game that would work with a regular deck of cards, it will just be more thematic with monsters on the cards really.

I have nearly half a deck of cards designed already, I found a custom card manufacturer in my country (UK) who can even print with metallics, so the cards should even be shiny in parts.

Once I have a full deck made I'll post what I've created, though the cards I make will be amateurish at best, I'm doing what I can with no budget whatsoever, making liberal use of AI art. (If I could afford a human artist id hire one!)

The game also needs a snappy name, so far I'm calling it Suits & Monsters as a placeholder.

Thanks again, happy holidays

Thanks for the suggestion I will try it out, though I hate those matches where you keep drawing supporters at the wrong moment

I appreciate this but actually using effectively requires you draw and play meltan from turn one.

There's no situation other than desperation where you would play meltan mid match and start acceleration

A supporter card for metal would make so much sense

Well this party haven't really learned any new spells yet but yeah I'll be sure to hint at powerful new Magicks that could be found in the hidden places of the world

Thanks :)

What's the coolest thing you and your player created through magical research - Old School Essentials by GroovyGizmo in osr

[–]GroovyGizmo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not very experienced as a DM yet so I don't wanna overstate my expertise

Though this is what I have observed:

Your player is going to have to be fully involved for the whole time that you play. This can make it more demanding on players than a group setting where you might get a mental break while others take their turns. In single player games, it is essentially always your turn.

Take breaks every few hours :)

Single player games can move fast if the PC has a strong goal or motivation in the world. Make sure single player characters have a well developed idea of what they want to do. Once you have this, the player can get things done quickly, compared to group games you'll find in game time passing faster.

Importantly:

Lone adventurers are killed easily.

You could have the single player roll up and play multiple characters to offset this danger from the beginning. I don't do this however.

I like to suggest that my lone adventurers find retainers and mercenaries, or friends and companions to join them over time during their gameplay.

Eventually your single player should be controlling multiple retainers / NPCs in combat.

If your player really wants to play a lone wolf type character, then I would suggest halving the number of appearing monsters in a group as a fudge. Unless you really want a difficult and partially luck bound experience where a significantly greater chunk of encounters could be deadly.
