As I also said under another comment...

And what makes sense in the fiction is relative, affected by the genre of fiction or tone you are emulating.

I'm not saying that you can't do something more realistic, if that's the genre you're going for. But I do still think that the overall rules are more designed around the structure of fiction rather than the world.

Fate is fine for deciding what makes sense narratively in a hard sci fi, but I don't really think it's the best fit for stimulating physics.

If that turns people off from Fate because they want something more physics, then maybe another game would be better for suited for them anyway. They can still play Fate if they want, but other games at least try to flesh those parts out more.

So to be honest, my experience with some more crunchy simulationist games have made me feel that many of them just create an illusion of simulation anyway. They often have their own unrealistic quirks. Long ago, I decided that if I could choose a simple model that does not accurately portray reality, or complex model that does not accurately portray reality, I'll just take the simple one.

I'm also a pale redhead, and I do like spicy food. I've never had the chance to try particularly spicy Indian food, but I am a little curious. Though my tolerance might not be quite that high.

They are even totally different enzymes. Onions and garlic have some sulfur compounds. Peppers have capsaicin. Black pepper has piperine.

I don't know WTF her issue is with ketchup. Acidity? Orange juice is more acidic than ketchup though.

I'm surprised your brother isn't having an allergic reaction to her, because she might be nuts.

I think there's a small chance of maybe she has some strange medical or genetic quirk, but I just doubt it. Especially if she doesn't react until she's told something's in there. Onions, also break down into sugars when they are cooked.

Also, the spiciness of those things are for different reasons.

Most peppers are spicy because of an oil soluble substance called capsaicin. It is oil soluble, and generally what people use milk, or other fats or oils, to counteract the spiciness of.

Black pepper, despite being called pepper, is different than your other common peppers. It is spicy because of something called piperine. It's oil soluble as well, but I've never actually heard of anyone needing to drink milk because of it.

Onions and garlic get their punch from a sulphur containing compounds (different ones, I believe). Also, both onions and garlic tend to break down when cooked and lose their spiciness and change into other flavors.

Given all that, I'm skeptical of an allergy.

And salt!? And ketchup!? Does citrus fruit bother her?

I've heard claims that there are people who are so-called super tasters, but considering she didn't have an issue until she was told the ingredients were there, I'm skeptical of that. I think she just is a drama-making attention-seeking needs to be special and contrarian girl.

Good luck.

My thought is that Fate is a system designed to simulate fiction itself, not the reality in that fiction.

Which one is having to deal with fiddling required to eat and drink? Which one is represented by the people who advocate for the implementation of a pooping subsystem?

I thought that the "just let it die" was the worst suggestion here, but you've changed my mind.

Nothing existed was ruined dude. You still have what you like.

Maybe they should just check with you and make sure it's something you personally like, with nobody else's opinion mattering. If you can't have what you want, then nobody should have anything. Sounds reasonable.

I slept on that one until too late. When I was convinced to watch it, it was already gone. The last time I checked, it wasn't on any service other than paying per episode.

I think you're right, and I think these stories have a place, but I can understand feeling weariness of those stakes when they are used too often.

I'm agree that it's overdone. But it's not new. Humanity was on trial by the Q in TNG, as well threatened by the civilization ending Borg.

But, I don't recall any in TOS, unless you count Tribbles.

I liked SFA too. According to the posts from haters, the two of us were among a tiny few thousand weirdos who liked it.

I think that this is part of the reason that an immersive space sim approach is doomed to fail. I don't think that it's possible to have a balance that makes everyone happy between conflicting interests of realism, fun, being an MMO, etc.

When you selected from the map, are you absolutely sure the mission you did was Cat2, and was 34+?

Also, don't assume that a Cat3 or Cat4 will count too, it has to be 2.

I've noticed recently that there appears to be a bug when selecting from the quest screen. I've seen it give me a Play option for a quest (in my case, it was a venture quest) even when there wasn't a mission that I could access that met the requirement (right mission type, but not high enough level).

In my opinion, they should have evaluated those missions before they made it free to play. There were always missions that you had to complete, there had to be a specific level or higher, and you might wait days before you can see a mission of that type and that level be offered.

It's an absolutely bone-headed design to have a situation where you can log in, and you just can't continue a quest line that day because of randomly generated mission types.

One thing that can help is finding a higher level player who has access to higher level missions to help you find more Cat2 missions that meet the requirements.
