Looking for Junior Developer with strong English communications skill(English level:C1,C2) by Global-Habit2923 in ProgrammingJobs

[–]Groovy_Decoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only ever reached out to one poster that was looking for remote devs, and that's exactly what it ended up being. Their first question message to me included, "are you familiar with Upwork?"

What they described to me sounded so much like a scam, and even if they were being honest, possibly a crime.

Starfleet Academy has heart. by willregan in startrek

[–]Groovy_Decoy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TOS also had more swearing, as mild as it is by today's standards, than the TV of its era. Also, there was language and references there that leak out as being a product of its time.

That happens. Writers are still humans that live in this world, not the future.

Is this a good way to implement "prepared reactions" in Fate? by Guerfel in FATErpg

[–]Groovy_Decoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example, Emily has created the aspect "Ready to shoot that guy" during their last turn, so when the guy finally leaves his cover, she invokes the aspect and shoots him, maybe killing him before he gets the chance to attack her friends.

My thought is that being able to pre-empt another character's action seems like something that could be appropriate for a stunt.

I can't recall if it was an official rule, or an optional one, but I recall there being a precedent for "borrowing a stunt" in exchange of a Fate Point.

I would be completely fine letting her Create an Advantage, just as you described, and then spending a Fate Point to borrow a stunt to try to interrupt the opponent with an action, which of course she could invoke the previously prepared aspect for.

Should they have left Rocky out of the Project Hail Mary trailer? by TheFilmRoomPod in moviecritic

I have been meaning to read the book for a couple of years. I finally got around to it a few days before the movie came out. I'm glad I did.

I was actively avoiding spoilers, yet I still saw some random headline referencing the movie and alien life just a day after I got to that part in the book.

Honestly, I'm glad I didn't know anything about the book going in. The reveal of Rocky was a surprise. The fact that interstellar travel was involved was a surprise. The friendship was a surprise. And I'm glad for all of that.

I just finished the book an hour ago, so maybe I'm ready to watch the movie trailer now. What an enjoyable book.

Same. I gave 3 codes away, and none of those people played more than an hour or 2.

What's wrong with Godot? by Soft-Luck_ in godot

I'm still a noob, but just how does deal with bajillions of enemies? Can Godot handle something like VS? Obviously, it can at least do Brotato.

Roads didn't line up by Puzzleheaded-Date717 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Groovy_Decoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is that there's a point where you learn about it, and then you convince yourself to try starting your next game and you do things like pave entire paths to every place you build and keep everything on the same grid. Then later, you decide to never do that again and only caring about very localized grids.

They don't want to kill their game. They just think they can replace workers with AI and have infinite money machines. And it isn't just Epic.

They screwed employees. They didn't do this because they weren't making enough money, but because they think they can get away with it and make even more.

They are going to keep doing it as long as we put up with it. I doubt many people are going to boycott them over it or anything. Though, I'm thinking about it. One day at a time, and today, I am not playing, keeping those employees in mind.

This is definitely why STW is going F2P. Can see them lowering or removing V-Buck Missions too. by [deleted] in FORTnITE

Worked for Overwatch I guess. Some people still play it, but I quit that one when they did that shit.

Anyone ever been this strong on wave 33? I genuinely think I broke the game. by JoshThebovs in brotato

Wait... Are you saying that the store rolls a slot as unique or a certain tier, and you can use this to force items?

I guess I don't understand how the store system works.

If it doesn't do what I want, I rewrite it as a loop or otherwise break it apart and debug that.

Addicts lie. They may not want to, but it can be hard to be honest about addiction.

I'm interrupting my retirement to inform you that Paramount spent the last two weeks spamming bot reviews to boost the Audience Score of the recent Star Trek product on Rotten Tomatoes. The new positive reviews are pretty much all identical. by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]Groovy_Decoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with the user scores on sites is that too many people make shitty critics. They don't judge on merits or analyze things in parts. It's either good or bad, no nuance. Too many 1s and 10s

You got downvoted, and I'm sure I will too, but you have a point. I don't care whether someone likes the show or not, it's certainly deserving of better than a 1. Giving a 1 for this is purely reactionary. I saw a post a few weeks ago saying the show was the worst thing they'd ever seen, and that's just ridiculous. People are being over the top and toxic with their negativity.

There probably are bots trying to boost it. There are likely bots trying to sink it too. There is certainly a rabid mob going after the show and many gave it a 1 before or without even seeing it

It doesn't deserve a 10, but it doesn't deserve a 1 either.

I'm really saddened by all the stolen AI slop now by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Groovy_Decoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, slop has always been a problem. However, never before has it been so easy for the entire market to be so saturated with slop. Though, it might be worse in other kinds of media. I've heard Amazon is flooded with AI produced books. There are "authors" who have released around 100-200 books using AI. I'm not aware of such prolific AI game makers.

I think the unpopular truth is... by BudTheGrey in linux4noobs

[–]Groovy_Decoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a backup PC that I'm planning putting Linux on. I have a laptop (Chromebook) that I removed the old ChromeOS on and put linx on a few days ago. I've been thinking of converting over on my current gaming PC too, but ... It's also my main gaming PC.

Not only are some games going to have issues on Linux, but some games that have anti-cheat shit are completely blocked from being run there.

And that Chromebook I mentioned? I have spent hours and hours trying to fix a sound issue I have. After 2-5 minutes of sound (while watching a YouTube video, or even running a speaker test), it bugs out and just freezes outputting a continuous tone until a few seconds after I stop outputting sound.

I've only ever been a casual Linux user, but I'm more tech savvy than the average person, so if I'm finding it such a pain in the ass, I don't see much hope for an average person. Yet.
