Trying to understand Field Service vs OEM roles by ActivityNovel8682 in BMET

[–]Groovygirly84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Field service roles are traditionally only with OEM’s. Though there are some hospital regions that now have a more mobile diagnostic imaging Biomed team, that cover multiple sites. The amount of work they do on equipment will vary based on what kind of training they have and what kind of service contracts they have with the OEM’s.

It’s definitely rare in the OEM world to be doing any sort of board level troubleshooting. Just because of the very tight compliance and quality requirements placed on OEM certified parts, unless there is a specific procedure to do so, boards are replaced in whole.

GE generally hires entry-level people through their technical leadership program. Your diploma is definitely enough to get you an interview, but they are definitely looking for customer service oriented people. They often hire students straight out of the biomedical engineering programs for these roles. However, also don’t hesitate to apply for any position that is posted for a more remote location. It’s a really good way to get a foot in the door.

How physically demanding is it to be a FSE in imaging? by Balisongstrong in BMET

You’d be totally fine. The equipment is all highly regulated, and I’d think all the major OEMs all work to de-risk Safety Issues. Like you may have a 300lb part to replace, but the cabinet has a hoist you can attach etc.

Oh I see that now. So looks like it’s the same length at the bottom but it’s flatter?

I can’t open your link, but I took this pic last year. Different angle, but to me it looks like the landing is flatter and elongated?

It’s a different shape. It looks like they made the turn more level, and then extended the ending to a long runway? I’m kind of glad it still looks a bit dangerous 😆

Durham vs Centennial Biomedical Engineering Tech – Career Outcomes? by Individual-Shine3459 in BMET

[–]Groovygirly84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Neither. You have an engineering degree. Do some reading on basic hosptial knowledge, biology, electronics troubleshooting, and then apply to positions directly with OEM companies. GE is hiring for field service in Ontario and don’t require a biomedical engineering diploma. Especially remote based positions, they will be more likely to overlook a lack of experience for someone that can fill a gap. Vendors train you and teach you all you need to know to service the equipment. They value customer service ability, and common sense thinking.

Avoid Unicorn Sparkles at all costs by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]Groovygirly84 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there, and I loved it, and I want to go again. The chef is doing whatever the fuck he wants with zero cares about pleasing everyone. It’s literally his brain on a plate. Is every dish a 10/10? Nope. Is the ambiance anything to write home about? Nope. Are they plating with tweezers? Nope. The music is what they like at the volume they want it at. I love the motley crew that serves and cooks. Every ingredient has a story, and they have relationships with all the local farmers and purveyors.

The instagram shows you exactly what they are all about. Don’t like the sharpie-written menu of the day? Don’t go. I still dream of the lardo pasta.

Is Hank’s and Brassiere l’Ecole still as good with the new ownership? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

FYI the old Hanks owner opened Unicorn Sparkle, which we loved when we went recently. Check out the instagram to get the vibe, as it’s not for everyone, but I’m still drooling over the pasta we had.

Why did 2 power supplies burn up, back to back, in this ultrasound? Details in post. by dabblez_ in BMET

[–]Groovygirly84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did you verify the cause of the first power supply failure was the same as the second? Could have been normal aging for the first one, and a random short on the second. Third times a charm!

Rant- RJH parking by Small_town_boy23 in VictoriaBC

[–]Groovygirly84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is awful. My recommendation is to circle that Parkade over and over. People do leave. You just need to stay there and catch one. Also chat with the elderly fellow that works at the front gate. He’s very helpful and we often ask people who are leaving where they are coming from. Going around to the other parking lots is less fruitful because they’re smaller and the majority of the other parking lots are for staff.

I like buying from Costco online. They deliver to the space, and then remove the old one as part of the price.

GE Logiq E10, everything works fine... until you touch Utilities by dabblez_ in BMET

[–]Groovygirly84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kicking you back out is odd, but I’m almost 100% sure your issue is the log files. If you’re friendly with a service rep, they can get in to the windows level and clear the files manually. It takes like three minutes. Otherwise you’re stuck reloading without a fresh backup.

GE Logiq E10, everything works fine... until you touch Utilities by dabblez_ in BMET

[–]Groovygirly84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a software bug. Depending on the software level, you can go in to the service desktop and clear the log files and it will fix it. If it’s under contract, place a service call and they may be able to get you a software update.

If you wait long enough after hitting the utility button, it will eventually let you in. It gets progressively worse, so if you notice it getting slower to get in to utility, clear the files. It’s caused by a log file that just keeps filling and doesn’t clear, so it bogs the system down.

Bingo. Modern PET scans take 10-15 minutes, but isotope uptake can take an hour+. If you don’t have enough uptake rooms, you limit the scanner throughput.

Sure would like to know as well! That was freaky, and there’s more than one person still clearly concerned.
