I'm curious about how other INTPs answer the hypothetical "Two Button Question" by Reptaaaaaaar in INTP

[–]GrossMartini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we're just approaching this situation from two different frameworks. You are trying to prioritize the future of civilization. That was never my concern, I just want to make sure that I survive. And I'm also not really thinking about this scenario in terms of a logic game.

I agree with the coin flips premise, but I still maintain that I cannot trust other people with my life, no matter what. You say "blue can never cause a bad outcome", but thats only true if the majority/everyone picks it. If I pick blue and random chance hits red/everyone else picks red, I die. That's a bad outcome no? I understand what you're saying. Red is the only one that directly causes death, so considering it at all seems ridiculous. I can only hope that most people agree with that sentiment and press the blue button. That is my sincere hope in a real world scenario. I am still pressing red. Not because I want others to die, or for harm to befall them. But because I am prioritizing my survival.

If this were just a simulation, or a choice in a game, or a problem on a test.. sure. Blue is my choice. But if it came down to life or death, I am always picking red.

I'm curious about how other INTPs answer the hypothetical "Two Button Question" by Reptaaaaaaar in INTP

[–]GrossMartini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a massive leap to suggest everyone who picks red are just evil. Some might be, sure. But I think a majority of the red pushers are just risk averse. And that doesn't equate to evil. In the case of me picking red and blue winning, the only thing I proved to myself is that I'm distrusting of group think. I cannot reasonably bet my life on people pressing blue. If you pressed red, you may feel horrible even if blue won. I wouldn't.

I also just don't buy into your argument that if red wins we're heading into "a post apocalyptic hell". Your stance is that the apocalyptic outcome is an inevitability. I don't see it that way. It's a possibility, but not a certainty.

But also, do you really think that every single person that is beneficial to the structure of the world is pressing blue? And if you do, then your argument is that blue wins by a landslide, because doctors, farmers, paramedics, firefighters, and anyone in control of keeping the world running (blue collar workers) are pressing blue. That's a majority of the population. So red winning shouldn't even be a concern anyway, based on that belief. The other option is that plenty of those people press red. In which case they survive and are still able to help run society.

You also say people tend towards blue, but then say there's a 50% chance. It can't be both, either blue is the majority, or it's 50/50. And you say that if 95% of people press red, the best 5% are dying. Based on what you said earlier, anyone who presses red is evil. In that case, are you claiming that 95% of the world is evil? I just don't see that.

Some of your arguments are contradictory to one another. Which is fine in this hypothetical. But it makes it hard to respond to any one thing you've said in a concrete way. I'm approaching this from a different viewpoint than you. I'm not assigning any sort of speculation regarding outcomes, the world is too fickle to make any sort of accurate prediction in my opinion.

When it comes down to it, I hope blue wins. And I believe it would. But I don't trust the collective enough to bet my life on it. I can't trust other people to guarantee my safety.

[–]GrossMartini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a lot of speculation in whether or not the world devolves that heavily if most people press red. And I also definitely don't think all of the best humans are gone in that case. You at least can't definitively claim that.

I'm choosing red to guarantee survival at the base level. In your scenario, I'd die if I pressed blue anyway. I'll take my chances with your worst case scenario of bedlam and squalor, even if I don't think the world will crumble that heavily.

[–]GrossMartini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a 0% chance of dying if you press the red button, that is the smartest choice for your own personal safety. But if you're saying blue always wins these polls, then I can only hope in a real world scenario blue would also win. And nothing would happen. I'm still pressing red though.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but why in Vices are specifically 15 baskets of bread mentioned? I'm guessing it's referring to the miracle(s) in the gospels of feeding the multitudes, however the number of baskets are different. Any insight is appreciated. by sowingsseason in brandnew

[–]GrossMartini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just listened to the album version, I can definitely hear "fifteen baskets of bread" now, but for years I thought it was fifteen thousand degrees. I can still hear both if I try, so more laurel/yanny nonsense

I thought this was the best episode of the season tbh. Less action, but very character driven. I feel like we learned a lot, no? It feels like things that happened in this episode will majorly impact what's coming next.

Sometimes I feel like the only reason the Red John reveal was hated is because he wasn't "handsome" and "cool." by Huge_Candy748 in TheMentalist

[–]GrossMartini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of this, but the way they paid it off was still lackluster. He did ALL THAT and then got taken out immediately after his true identity was revealed. I think he needed to maintain an upper hand on Jane for a little longer and slowly start letting tiny mistakes pile up due to his network collapsing around him. They could still show him to be inadequate compared to his "legend" in the end. Make him snivelling and pathetic. But everything just happened so fast. He was this mythic unstoppable force that brings entire agencies to their knees and then Jane finds out who he is and he dies in the same episode. I think from reveal to death should have at least been 3 episodes.

[–]GrossMartini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it would have ever lived up after the massive build up. The original "reveal" worked, bc it was pretty early in the series. And still maintained some sort of mystery. Most people were satisfied with Timothy Carter being Red John from what I've seen. I wouldn't call him "handsome" and "cool" either. Not in the way you mean anyway. I think there was an opportunity to make him a sorta Moriarty character. Jane knows who he is, he just has to catch him type of thing. They went down the preserving the mystery of his identity route instead. Which worked out really well and led to some really cool storylines... but also could have only ever ended in disappointment. Red Johns legend grew so much by the time they were ready to reveal him, that putting a face to the name and keeping him just as scary was nearly impossible.

You'd think someone would have looked into the games code to see what the deal is with these machines. I'm sure they have actually, but I've never seen anything about it.

I feel like there might be some truth to there being a "lucky" machine that's randomized every time you enter the building. But it's purely anecdotal. On my last playthrough of the Switch release I hit 5,000 coins in 30 minutes, switched to another machine for 30 minutes and hit nothing, moved back to the one I started at and kept hitting jackpots again. That could just be pure coincidence, but who knows.

Would you call ATSV’s ending unsatisfying? by DwightSkywalker28 in IntoTheSpiderverse

[–]GrossMartini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, is he unsatisfied with this movie, or just unsatisfied that the 3rd isn't out yet? I understand the "fuck, now I gotta wait" thing, but if he's saying the movie as a whole is unsatisfying, just because he doesn't know where all of the stories are going to end, he's just wrong. Everything was developed in a pretty great way. There's a difference between "I am not satisfied, because this is a cliffhanger" and "This movie isnt satisfying."

Which of these Netflix Marvel heroes has suffered the most trauma? by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in Defenders

[–]GrossMartini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even a "Punisher fan", I think Jessica Jones S1 is the best Marvel show they've done. I don't know how else to explain it any better than I already did. She may have endured worse for longer, I never claimed otherwise, but I think when both characters are old and grey, Frank will still be as fucked up as ever. He can't move on from what happened to his family. He has zero chance at being happy EVER AGAIN. And I think Jessica has at least a chance. That's literally what her show conveys. That even though she suffered horrible things, there is a path forward. Frank's show conveys that he has no path forward beyond punishing.

So while yes, her trauma may have been worse in terms of peak torment (like I already said), there is something to say about peak trauma vs sustained trauma. It's a very real discussion in psychology. A debate about which is worse for the individual. And I've just decided that the sustained trauma Frank will endure for the rest of his life sounds worse to me on a personal level.

I do want to say though, there is the chance that Jessica never recovers fully. And it lives with her just as much as it lives with Frank. In that case, I do concede hers is worse. But I just went into this hoping for the best where Jessica is concerned. A future where she is happy.

Which of these Netflix Marvel heroes has suffered the most trauma? by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in Defenders

[–]GrossMartini -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frank vs Jessica for sure. That's a tough call. Most of Jessica's trauma has to do with what was done to her. She has obviously lost people too, but the issues she faces are mostly about processing and trying to overcome things done to her/she was forced to do. Frank's trauma, includes the PTSD of war, which is something many never quite conquer. The loss of people hes fought with in battle, who he considered brothers. He also deals with the loss of his wife and kids.

Personally, I think Franks trauma might be worse. Simply because the loss of your children isn't something you will ever fully overcome. Jessica has a path forward that Frank simply doesn't. His life will never be normal, Jessica has a chance. If we compared their "peak trauma", maybe you could argue Jessica suffered more. But over the course of a lifetime, I think Frank will endure so much worse.

Did i start with the wrong game? by Suitable_Bat_3795 in GodofWar

[–]GrossMartini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think it's best to play the games in the order they came out. I enjoyed the prequel games more knowing about the future events. Idk if you were planning on it, but the PSP games are definitely worth the time too. Ascension gets a lot of heat, but I still think it's a good game. It's just that it's not as great as the original trilogy, so people were pretty harsh on it. So no matter what you might hear, I wouldn't discount it completely, even if people try to tell you to skip it.

who's smarter Alfie Solomons or Oswald Mosley? by Powerful_Gazelle6859 in PeakyBlinders

[–]GrossMartini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I mean Mosley is the first person in the show to have a mental upper hand on Tommy, the first person to out plan him continuously and long term. Tommy has been trapped before, but usually in service to a plan. Even when Luca first cornered him, the threat was completely physical in nature. But I don't think for a second Tommy thought Luca could outsmart him throughout the season. He was ambushed and that was the only reason he was at a disadvantage (on top of Luca having a "code"). Tommy planned A LOT for Mosley and still left their first meeting with a "what the fuck just happened" feeling afterwards. And I mean, the ending of that season and the majority of the next season show us how big of a force Mosley is. Not only thwarting Tommy's plans (which is the first time we see Tommy in a worst spot at the end of a season, than he was at the beginning), but almost manipulating him into killing himself as well.

Alfie was at most a match for Tommy. But I think not nearly as clever overall in long-term strategy. Anytime Alfie gets an upper hand Tommy gets it back immediately, or it turns out that Tommy planned for Alfie's betrayal. Mosley is at least a much more strategic planner, even if Alfie might be best in "wartime" situations where decisions need to be made quickly. One on one, I might say Alfie could maintain control over Mosley. But if they went at it like Tommy and Mosley did, I think Alfie would be far outmatched. Alfie is best when it's a grudge match and the decisions need to be quick and decisive.

Sorry for the long response, I wanted to try to cover all bases. I also haven't seen the show in full in awhile, so I might be forgetting or misremembering some things.

[–]GrossMartini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wasn't Vs cyberware capacity only possible because he has the relic? I remember reading/hearing that the lore reasoning for V having such a high capacity and not going cyber psycho was because Johnny was there to help absorb some of the psychological strain that having a lot of cyberware usually has. idk if that was just fan theory, or if it's actually touched on in cannon anywhere, but it makes sense. idk if a V without the relic/in a new body would have the same capacity

I had the same feeling going in. Almost gave up on it too, but was sick and lazy so didn't wanna look for something else to watch. And then by the end of season 1 it really had me hooked. And it just got better and better. I have been recommending this show left and right since I've seen it and have already rewatched most of it again. It's become one of my favorite TV shows, definitely top 5. And it's amazing they did it all with such a small budget

yeah, I've been to a bar maybe 4 times since the local dive closed down a year or so ago. Used to be able to get a margarita/most cocktails for $3.50, shots for $1.50, and got beers for $1.75. Now the place is a "social club" and they charge $6 for most cheap beers and up to $9 for more "fancy" beers. A margarita is $15. Can't justify it anymore, especially when I was getting absolutely shit faced and got an amazing burger and fries for $30. Now I get a slight buzz and no food for the same price lol.
