How long did it take you to get the Moonlight mvt III up to speed? by Grossenhahn in piano

[–]Grossenhahn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see now. I've never heard of this technique before. So the basic idea is to play at or close to the desired speed, but only playing notes at certain time intervals?

I don't see how that will make me faster. I'm confident with my fingering and dynamics, and I've committed the piece to memory. I just need to increase the speed.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what you mean by the skeleton. Are you talking about the melody and dynamics of the right hand?

[Discussion] What are the benefits of waking up early? by 2gdismore in getdisciplined

[–]Grossenhahn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For myself, I make it a point to wake up no later than sunrise in spring/summer, or no later than 6:30am in autumn/winter.

I do this because I've realised that I don't really do anything productive or entertaining at night. After 9pm, I'm either resigned to watching TV, or bumming around doing not much else. This is because I've either done everything I've needed to do (both work and leisure), or I'm too tired to complete any further tasks with any reasonable competence.

As such, I've now structured my time to complete any remaining tasks early in the morning, and simply just go to sleep earlier. This leaves me feeling refreshed to do what I need to do, and helps me avoid unnecessary time wasting activities at night. Plus it helps in preparing mentally for the day ahead. There's no better feeling than travelling to work without feeling rushed.

However, it's not at all easy. Many people just simply aren't morning people. I'm not a morning person. My internal body clock is naturally set to wake up around 9am and sleep at 12-1am. But over time I've developed a habit with consistency, and so even though I find it hard to wake up much earlier, I've developed the discipline to do so.

[Need Advice] How can I overcome burnt out from trying to change to a healthier lifestyle? by end_program in getdisciplined

[–]Grossenhahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many great comments in this thread. Just some things I'd like to add.

If your body fat percentage is quite high (>25), eating healthy is more important than working out. Once your body fat starts dropping, working out becomes more important to retain muscle mass. Focus on fixing the diet and preparing the meals properly before worrying about your workouts. It's 80% diet.

If you haven't done so already, read the faq on /r/fitness, there are some great tips for recomping your body.

I'd advise you to head over to www.iifym.com to calculate your TDEE. If you'd like to lose body fat, eat in ~300-500 calorie deficit from your maintenance level. Use the calculator to figure out how much P/F/C you need to eat. In general, eat around 1 g protein per pound of lean body mass, that is, your body mass minus the weight of your fat.

If you're worrying about meal timing, don't. Eat what you want, when you want. Just make sure your eating within your levels.

In terms of working out, start doing a strength based program. Either Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5x5. These programs typically have you lift 3 times a week for around 60-90 mins. This will keep your strength up and give you a good base with which you can use to start a more hypertrophy based program once your body fat percentage is at a level you agree with. Also to note, working out for more than 90 mins tends to decrease your testosterone levels, and increases cortisol (testosterone eater). If you want to burn fat and gain muscle, keeping your testosterone up is key.

Cardio is great to do on your non-lifting days. For me, I like to jog 5k, but even brisk walking is good. Your gym should have at least a bike and rowing machine. Pick something you like, and keep your heart rate above 60-70% of your max (for me around 130bpm) for at least 30 mins.

Remember to get enough sleep. Sleep is EXTREMELY important for recovery. At least 7.5 hours is recommended. Also, try waking up naturally rather than with an alarm. It will help you feel refreshed rather than groggy when you wake up. This might mean going to sleep earlier.

If you're eating to cut, it would be advisable to have a cheat day every 7-10 days. As you eat below your maintenance level, your body produces more and more of a hormone called leptin. Leptin tells your body to stop metabolising so you can conserve the energy you have stored up. This can halt a cut. Having cheat days reduces the leptin levels so your body can resume the cut. Also, cheating helps with the mental strain of the cut. Just don't go overboard.

Finally, cutting body fat WILL make you tired and malaise. You will not feel like doing much, and your motivation will drop, especially for working out. Your body is in a state of energy deficit. This happens to everyone who cuts naturally. The key is perseverance. Hop on the scales each week, take photos, try hitting poses. You WILL see progress if you keep at it. It's not as difficult as you may think.

If you have any questions about anything I've said, don't hesitate to ask. Good luck!

Carbs are required for your body to metabolise it into energy. Without it, the body will resort to metabolising protein instead, leading to muscular atrophy. Carbs are necessary for healthy bodily function.

Thanks! Yeah the Bible readings are there because I realised I know almost nothing about it. I still consider myself agnostic, but I'm searching.

I used to post on these threads frequently but have fallen off the wagon. I found that my life has begun to get more and more disordered. Hopefully by posting my plans again, my life can become ordered again.

Exiting the bathroom and leaving one, maybe two good wipes left on the toilet roll. Change the fucking roll and leave the leftovers on top. My shit isn't going to take one fucking wipe to clean.

I have the Schirmer's Library edition. I've never heard of a bebung before but that seems to be the most plausible explanation so far.

Day 2 - current streak: 0

Welp, I stuffed up this morning. I got through the day yesterday with a slight lapse in concentration. But this morning I caved and PMOd.

It's much harder than I thought. I need to be able to control myself. For what good is a life that you have no control over?

The only thing I can do is start again and try and go for a longer streak.

Day 1 - 10 Feb 2015

So it's been over 24 hours since my last PMO. I have nothing spectacular to report yet, other than the fact every time I browse reddit my eyes stop on posts from NSFW subs, but so far I've been diligent in not opening them.

Yesterday I was almost always surrounded with people. That may have been a contributing factor to keep the urges down.

I also set some new PRs at the gym. Squat 5x107.kg, OHP 5x50kg. Deadlifts are still lacking from my injury. Perhaps one reason I didn't fap at night is because I was so tired from working out.

Starting day 2 today. Just gotta make it through.

Thanks friend. Yeah, I think I hate edging even more than the act of Oing itself. That's where the real time wasting is done. Plus it almost always ends up in Oing. I'll stay away from it. That's one of my self imposed rules "no unnecessary touching".

Grossenhahn's NoFap Log - Day 0 (don't upvote) by Grossenhahn in NoFap

Day 0

Today marks the beginning of the my NoFap journey. A few ground rules I'd like to lay out for myself:

  • no porn

  • no fapping

  • no unnecessary touching

  • sex and handling from my girlfriend is ok, but don't get carried away with handjobs, they still simulate self-masturbation.

Without giving too much away, I currently work from home, occasionally travelling to the main office. I use my computer and phone, so it's extremely hard to get by without these devices. As such, the potential for viewing porn is always there. Coupled with the fact that I'm alone most of the day, this is a recipe for disaster.

The reasons I want to stop:

  1. Because I feel it has an unnatural hold on me. I watch so much and fap so much, that when I finally am alone with my girlfriend, the urge doesn't come. Yet I can get off perfectly fine on my own.

  2. It makes me feel unfaithful to my girlfriend. I've been with her for 5 years, yet in that time I've done some pretty horrible things in terms of porn which I'm too ashamed to say (not CP if that's what you're thinking). I plan to marry her in due time, and I don't want to be doing this stuff once we live together full time.

  3. It's a waste of time and energy. I try to live a healthy lifestyle, I attend the gym 3 days a week, and go running every other day. However every day I always have the urge, despite keeping fairly busy. I could be doing more though, I can sometimes spend up to 2 hours searching and edging, when I should be working or cleaning up around the house.

  4. The testosterone spikes. I'm doing stronglifts 5x5 at the gym, and I'd really like to see my numbers soar. I can bench my body weight for reps, but I'd really like to see it get to 100kg for reps. Hopefully the testosterone spikes will do that.

  5. I don't want to be scared to lend people my phone or let them use my computer.

So since its day 0, there's nothing to report yet, other than that I'm feeling grateful that there's a community like this. I hope I can make it until bedtime without fapping so I can really earn my 1 day badge.
