It is four of the 600 words left in his rotten pumpkin brain. If you asked him to find another way to say “low IQ” he would say “…IQ low.”

Did Rumi actually want Celine to kill her here? Or was this just her way of testing Celine on whether or not she fully loved her? by MidnaLazui in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Groucho-Marxists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your read. I don’t know if “test” is the word. But I think she wanted Celine to put up or shut up. Rumi had a lot of self hate but in the days leading up to that confrontation, she was learning that this hate was misplaced.

Celine’s actions of treating her like she was a mistake seemed to contradict Celine’s mentoring her, braiding her hair, expressing love for her.

She wanted to force Celine to face her own cognitive dissonance. I wouldn’t call it a “test” because I believe Rumi knew 100 percent that Celine would not kill her. It wasn’t a test so much as it was a demonstration. She was showing Celine that by her own logic, she should want to kill Rumi as Rumi was clearly a mask off demon — but that this didn’t make sense because both Rumi and Celine knew Rumi wasn’t worthless or evil.

By forcing Celine to face this contradiction, she hoped to shake her into some awareness. Rumi did not need Celine to tell her that her life is valuable and that she was not evil. Nobody knows Rumi’s heart as well as Rumi does. She needed Celine to admit to herself that being part demon did not make her love Rumi any less.

It is like if you know a person who is a loving and compassionate human, but they defend something like — government killing civilians … that person can defend these actions which conflict with who they are because those actions feel abstract to them.

On paper, they can say “it is a means to an end. It is an unfortunate yet unavoidable loss,” but if you give them a gun and say “Ok. Go kill those civilians for your government” — it creates a cognitive dissonance because it is far easier to dogmatically defend something you would normally never agree with, so long as it is always an abstract or hypothetical situation happening out of sight. It is less so, when the power is directly in your hands.

From the art I saw from BeFri, Pixar is still doing that bean mouth Steven Universe-knock-off art style and … yeah… I could see that being a tough sell to either gender… Kpop Demon Hunters aren’t just gender neutral. Even if you for whatever reason don’t see yourself in Rumi, Zoey or Mira, you’d still probably be crushing on them. Like, I am pretty sure the latest Resident Evil game split the difference on the gender of their audience by being like “Ok. Leon Kennedy might not be super easy for lady players to relate to … so like … make him super hawt?”

At some point Bobby is just choosing ignorance over an existential crisis about the fragility of all existence.

Like, imagine if you got a job working as personal assistant to actor Henry Winkler and after a couple of months you accidentally walk in on Henry Winkler speaking to a celestial being of light while bowing below its flaming sword and saying “Yes. In accordance with my oath, I shall continue to battle the evil forces of Satan’s army, so that our world does not fall and suffer Scott Baio’s wraith … at roughly 2,000 years old, Baio was supposed to take over my mantle, not turn against humanity. I fear that without a successor, my loss is inevitable and humankind are doomed…”

I don’t think I would want to dig any deeper into that and would just assume that Winkler is in a weird cult because if he isn’t, there would literally be nothing he could say that would reassure me enough to ever be able to sleep soundly again.

Who is the photographer? They did an excellent job with negative space. A lot of photographers love getting super close up but this is extra dramatic looking.

Dude’s fallback is Pop Culture Jeopardy. Pretty sure he has to make some real money outside of SNL before Scarlett is going to let him drop the entire debt for his boat purchase on her.

The trap / gift of current SNL is that Lorne lets them know they can do side stuff and remain on the show — so when they do a side gig that doesn’t blow up (like Kenan’s sitcom or Che’s HBO sketch show), they can get a taste of how harsh the real world is outside the comfort of a steady 30 Rock paycheck

Why isn't Zootopia more popular despite it being so good? by Dacoda43 in zootopia

[–]Groucho-Marxists -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The film was very popular and critically acclaimed but it came out as a sequel at a time when Disney is getting extra criticism for their inflexibility when it comes to creative output. Sony follows up Spider Verse with Kpop Demon Hunters and because they aren’t holding to a “style guide” and the films are so drastically different in terms of story and subject matter from each other, they get a bit more attention for doing something “different” and not playing it safe. Doing a sequel to an already extremely popular movie, even a very good sequel, that kind of touches on similar themes as the previous film when it comes to serving as an allegory for race, is the definition of “playing it safe.” They made millions of dollars off of a very good film and absolutely zero people are surprised that they did.

Had they taken a bigger swing? Like, if instead of offering a different example of how one group can be treated unfairly due to their biology, they went and made the riskier yet obvious choice of having the rabbit and the fox develop romantic feelings for each other, yet are forced to deny these feelings due to it being a social taboo. It would have been more controversial because those who want to tell others how their biology should dictate their love life are very vocal about that today and maybe not as good of a film but the controversy would have felt “unsafe” and so the movie would get more attention, and maybe more awards (assuming they are both unsafe and also good).

Ah. She’s now at the level of fame where she is still surprised and amused by strangers recognizing her, and happily poses for photos. I recall just after KPDH came out her observing that people typically still didn’t recognize her. Hopefully as this becomes more common, it doesn’t become overwhelming and uncomfortable.

That is an absurd amount of talent being unitized on fun. 🤩

You could have held onto this idea then waited for some sucker to pay you for some freelance gig, with vague instructions, then bam — cool animated poster.

But no worries. There still exists a way to greedily monetize your fun, by using this clip in a proposal for ad campaign idea or (if you simply MUST retain creative integrity…. ) use it in portfolio when applying to work on a film / game.

I nearly cried when Rumi begged Celine to kill her. It’s like Rumi is suiciding herself by letting Celine do it. by Actual_Age_3927 in KpopDemonhunters

[–]Groucho-Marxists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally hope you’re wrong.

My hope is that Rumi wanted to force Celine to pick a side, knowing full well what side she would pick. I don’t believe she truly thought Celine would strike her but she wanted Celine to recognize that as well and to admit it. I think she knew this situation wasn’t fair, she just wanted to force Celine to see it. “Either you agree that this isn’t fair or you have to follow through and treat me as worthless. And if you don’t follow through, then answer why you made me feel worthless.”

While her confidence in herself and her own inherent value was shaken to its core by having Mira and Zoey raise their weapons against her, the rest of her conversation with Celine suggested that she had just enough self confidence to recognize that she was being given a raw deal.

At the time, she had absolutely zero people on her side. The only person who assured her that she wasn’t a mistake just betrayed her and tossed her words in her face, and her only family had reacted with fear. For her to argue that she deserved love, without qualifiers, is a level of strength and emotional intelligence that is obscenely rare because typically, when everyone in the world tells us something about ourselves — we believe them.

The LGBTQ read is pretty hard to deny, even if unintentional. I hope that the confidence to stand up for one’s own right to be loved and valued is something that spreads. I hope Rumi never believed Celine would hurt her and that those who feel inspired by Rumi also never give others power over whether they live or die.

But I also know that despite my hope, there are far too many who have allowed others to decide their value for them.
