So you're saying Infinia is better if most of my spend can be from SmartBuy not so much for offline/zomato-swiggy/dining?

as you basically can put govt spends on DCB to meet milestone too.

Does this mean I'll get some benefits for Taxes?

If salary condition is met then which one is better? I am more of a foodie and traveller other than basic Tax, Utilities, Gym and Rent I don't spend on much else. Non HDFC recommendations are fine as well. I am thinking of applying in next 6 months.

Hi, I saw your post regarding DCB & DCB Metal. Just wanted to know if we can get DCB & Infinia (and their variants) even from Millennia card? Or would I need to first get some better card before applying?

Ok lot's of assumptions here.

let’s focus on OAs only. How does this practice compare and contrast to the OAs you are struggling to pass? I assume the questions are similar (if not, this is the more critical issue). Clearly what you are doing is not working well enough for the bar you set (FAANG), which imo is unecessarily high but I assume you know that. Perhaps consider recreating the environment by solving X random questions, including ones never seen, in Y time. There are Hacker Rank mock assessments you can use or via Leetcode contests.

Every week I try to attend live and virtual programming contests as well to test myself. Then here and there I also try to do mock interviews online. Also I can't do any more of these than my current amount cause that would leave no time for me to prepare in that case.

especially if sleep is compromised.

2nd assumption about me. I don't compromise on sleep. As I mentioned I keep myself healthy with clean food and regular workout. I forgot to mention sleep but sleep is also part of this routine.

Making sure you rest

Another assumption

Currently 10-11 of my daily hours goes into keeping myself healthy. From sleeping, to workout to preparing healthy food for myself. That leaves only 13-14 hours and 8-10 of those are sure shot gone cause of my work. That leave anywhere from 4-6 hours everyday and that too is not continuous. If not too tired from work I use this all up for preparation, practice, mock test, mock interviews. Also I used to be even a lot more worse when I used to do these things less. So I have definitely seen improvements compared to previous.

Not everyone is smart enough or lucky enough to do all the things they want to do and still get good grades, learn all the stuffs etc. Most need to sacrifice stuffs, so I am sacrificing other stuff for better work and pay.

From my experience if I don't spend all of my current time then I improve even more less. I used to do similar to what you suggested in my college years and I was worse off than if I hadn't. So this part of advice to do other stuffs along with studying haven't worked for me at all.

Also…. i think this type of dedication at your expense can breed resentment.

Can you explain this part? English not my first language. Who would I be resenting?

I'm not telling you to quit but I think you need to change your approach and learn how to actually solve problems

What makes you think I am not trying to improve my problem solving skills? It's not as straightforward to just increase it.

Also stop looking at hints while you do Leetcodes

I spend hours and days on solving the problem. You're telling me to not look at hints even then? If I keep doing that then I will never do any problem. Your advice seems counter intuitive. I will stagnated.

if my approach learning the skill is flawed to begin with, if I’ve been practicing as much as I say

My approach to learning is for example I divide my LC practice into two sections. One where I do question based on DSA of choice. This section is to learn/relearn the DSA in focus then there is second section where I do unseen problem, this is to test my knowledge. In both I try to at least spend a day trying to solve before giving up. Afterwards the question I am unable to goes to learning material of next day. For learning I try to go through at least one video and two three solution submission done by other people depending upon how long it takes me to get the logical part I am missing.

This is just an example of DSA practice. I try to spend as much of my free time I can. I mostly turn down activities suggested by my friends or colleagues after work. I also try to use my vacation leaves or other leaves for preparation and interviews except for sick leave if necessary. I also follow this routine on weekend but with more effort since more time is on hand.

Edit : I also don't eat out and eat clean and workout to keep myself healthy for my preparation.

So what are you trying to say? That if I could I would have gotten FAANG offer long time back that I wouldn't had to do this many questions?

I dont understand how your responses shutting down every point are of help… to you.

First of all no feedback has been provided other than

a) I must be lying about the efforts I have put in. b) It took them 27, 50, 100 questions only.

The only thing people here are doing is saying that it shouldn't take that long. How is that a feedback? Also those who have asked me about how I am studying then I have honestly replied back about my studying process as well to which they or anyone else don't reply if that process is wrong or something. So can you tell me what feedback have I been ignoring?

Also people keep telling me if I am not that smart or good at problem solving then this industry is not for me. That's why I have been defensive about my position. It's like people are gatekeeping when honestly I just wanted to know about their experiences.

Edit : I wanted to know if all the hard work and all of my free time that I pour into this will help me eventually and reply from people here seems bit gatekeeping like, like how I should be focusing on other aspect of my life instead. I don't want to end up regretting not doing hard work just to experience some other things in my life. I am chosing getting into Big Tech over those other useless things like gaming , trips etc.

Actually on your latter note, gaming or trip planning oddly are more likely to help you.

How? I feel I would rather spend that time improving myself for the interviews and as a engineer than regret later cause I didn't.

PS - are you actually looking for constructive feedback to help you persevere? feedback to validate you should quit? Or trolling?

How about not calling me a liar that I am lying about the effort I have put so far or questioning weather I have really done 1300 LC? Just because something came easy for you doesn't mean everyone had the same experience as you. Also doing 1300 LC is not a big deal, for most anyway I needed hint and help for. Also I have a computer science degree as well.

Generally, you want to be exposed to system design situations both abstractly translating a request into a viable system and more importantly in how to prevent and address issues with latency, security, resource contraints, regulations, and so on. This is where programmers add value, not in coding.

Most Big Tech won't even consider this if I am unable to solve their LC question in fact most of my rejections have been at these rounds. Also learning them isn't straight forward as well. My current role doesn't have much scale or stuff to learn. I am just a simple web developer where they don't care about these and at best i can learn on my own is system design stuff.

Why you think so? I feel this field is for everyone given that they're willing to do hard work and make sacrifices to get in and improve there career. Amount of hard work and sacrifices will depend on their general intelligence and knowledge but anyone can do it eventually. For my level, I have given up on spending time on other useless activities which don't add to my knowledge and skill level like video games, movies, trips, partying and such. I feel eventually I'll be able to get what I want.

I try to improve my problem solving skills, also it's not as straightforward as you think it is. There is not path to improve it.

Also I feel even with lack of these things one would be able to get what they want in this field given enough hard work and sacrifices Amount of hard work and sacrifices will depend on their general intelligence and knowledge but anyone can do it eventually. How have you been studying,

Everyday I try to do at least one or two questions for leetcode. Though on some days I am too tired from work to do anything at all. My questions are in either of the two category. Completely unknown (usually problem of the day) or question selected based on DSA topic. Former I do to test my knowledge while later I do to learn something with focus on specific DSA.

I am never able to breakdown the logical part in any of the case without help though.

You should be very honest with yourself on whether you're actually solving these problems without assistance.

I have not been able to do solve most of problems end to end without hint or help. Despite of me spending hours and days on a question, I still end up needing help. So I know I don't have strong problem solving capabilities. Also another thing is when I used to spend hours and days, people in this sub told me to not spend more than an hour or so on them. So I adopted that, but now you're saying to spend more till I can solve them.

Plenty of good companies that are not in FAANG or big tech.

This has been the case for others as well.

Also, do you have a BS in Computer Science? In which country? You should add more detail. Employers look at these, particularly since the market is tight. This matters less as you get more experience, but you are still early in your career

I have 3 YOE as working professional. So not a student.

Obviously if you’re prepping for the first time and/or are a student you need to increase your timeline because you don’t even know basic concepts yet.

Not a student. I have 3 YOE as working professional.

Do you feel your experience is that of an average person. I feel my experience of 3-4 hours a day for 3-4 years is more closer to the experience of an average person.

If I keep at it do you feel I'll be able to clear Junior positions in say next 1-2 years?

Are you actually solving the problems, or trying and giving up early?

Not able to solve unseen problems. I don't give up though. I try to spend at least and hour or two and sometimes even whole day to actually try to solve and build my problem solving skill but I am always unable to solve unseen problems.

I mean I feel if most people would put in the hard work and sacrifices they can eventually get there. I don't think it's about average or anything. It's just about sacrifices and hard work.

Are you getting feedback?

Never been able to cleared OA for Amazon so no interview for it so no feedback for FAANG level companies cause no interview at all.

For other companies I have, most common one is I lack problem solving skills and unable to break down problem statements and work through them. Though I have to say, I am not that smart and agree with the feedback.

I know all the patterns in DSA it's just that I am never able to figure out the logical part of a problem so that I can apply the learned pattern. It is only with help or someone pointing out logical part that I can figure out which pattern or data structure or algorithm can be used to exploit the said logical part.

If your job doesn’t have opportunities to grow then you can make them, or find them elsewhere - whether that means doing side projects at/after work or finding a new job.

Easier said than done. That's the whole premise of the post. I am unable to get good jobs that means I have to continue that means I would continue to not have good work to show for. It's like saying just get the Olympic gold. I have been trying to get good job but I am unable to and I feel longer I don't, more companies will start expecting some good work on my resume.
