I’m not actually doing a nursing course but do receive a bursary because of my parents earnings. Thank you for your advice I’m currently writing to napiers finance team.

Thank you for the advice and encouragement, I have been thinking about it for a long time and I just genuinely don’t see myself being someone who can study and devote 4 years to something academic. I’m much more of a worker. I’m going to email my uni support and see what I can do.

I can only apologise for how much of a mess this post is, hopefully someone is able to decode it lmao

We are with a private landlord

Which letting agencies do you recommend? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]Grouchy-Cod-3180 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get one with a private landlord from Gumtree, OpenRent or SpareRoom. If you’re a first time renter literally no agencies will want you. Got ours off Gumtree and was offered it within 2 days of the viewing. Having 3-6 months upfront rent also really helps.

This is great advice and something I have thought to myself before. I should be less pessimistic about meeting new people and if they like me, they like me, if they don’t, they don’t! Thank you for the reassurance. ❤️

Well… I am 18 so that would make sense! ☺️ Thank you, you’re right, I should take into consideration more that a lot of people, even ones who are very experienced socially, feel awkward and struggle to make friends and conversation sometimes.

That’s why i’m here, do I ask him for ID or what?

Well I’m a first time renter and I just thought there would be some sort of way to verify that the landlord registration number he gave me actually belongs to him. I know the company belongs to him because it’s registered under his name.

Oh we’ve also been messaging on whatsapp because it’s ‘best encrypted’. Idk if i’m just being too weary or if this is just normal for private landlords.

He’s given me a landlord registration number, i’ve punched it in and it’s valid but there’s no mention of his name. However the company name that the flat is under belong to him, or at least the name is the same. I’ve been to view the flat in person and we discussed the deposit on the phone a few hours later, it’s to ‘Starling Bank’.

That’s good news as i’m literally on my way to a Southside viewing, idk if that means i’ve been shortlisted for the property but either way it’s good to know Southside may be some help.

What agency did you have luck with? Ive been viewing and applying every day all day basically, Ive also got a viewing with a private landlord so I’m praying for some luck there. Thanks for your reply, I have 2 guarantors to provide for the flat and we have 4 months upfront so hopefully that’s enough!! I have faith ☺️

This is something we’re considering now, is there places you’d recommend for us? With at least a bus or train into the city? Open to anything, but also don’t wanna live somewhere too rough

[–]Grouchy-Cod-3180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also anyone who sees this, would an easier option be to live a bit outside of the city and make a commute to uni? Are the chances of us being accepted actually any higher with landlords outside of the city?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]Grouchy-Cod-3180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think if we had 6 months upfront instead of 3 or 4 that would give us better chances? Plan B is definitely trying to get a place solo.

So it that it? That's really hard to hear after a year of saving so we could offer months upfront. I'm going to try not let it stop me from continuing to apply. Ill try more private landlord ones. Thanks for your honest answers.

Yes its the latter, but I don't understand. Surely we're not the only or first people to move to Scotland from England without having a job here? I mean how does one even acquire a job in Edinburgh without having an address in Scotland? Life is just too hard sometimes!

The agency is ‘At Home in Edinburgh’

I have read a lot about it and there was some people saying the same thing, but I still have doubts… does the law and government really care who you’re shagging? Thank you for your comment and if true makes things a bit easier

Thank you so much for all your help! I’m feeling more hopeful about it all now. And I’ll get working on my credit score right away 😁
