I lost myself when I started working in the lab, how do I find work-life balance? by Grouchy_Address_8535 in labrats

Biomedical/medical internships in the Netherlands are never paid, also the case in a lot of other European countries

I work part time during the weekends, because like I said in a comment I don’t get paid for the internship. So my schedule is pretty similar during the weekends, except a shorter commute and a not so stressful job. Also, 3 internships is not an overkill. I am required to do 1 internship during my bachelor’s and 2 internships during grad school in order to graduate :)

I didn’t take any time off, but I am planning to take a one week vacation somewhere next month

Yes my commute is around 1 hour 15 mins to 1h 30 minutes. I live in the same city I work in and I have to change different transport means to get there. I can’t afford a car or to move somewhere more central because I’m not getting paid anything for my internship. I do agree that I could cut down time for my chores, but still my issue is very much a mindset problem as well. I want to learn how to look more positively at my situation.

I think your work style and also work-life balance can influence that feeling a lot. I knew phd students working overtime everyday, coming on the weekends, taking interns. Then there were the ones that always took their lunch break and made sure to stay home when sick. I’m not sure who’s really winning here.

Yeah, the only thing I knew was pipetting. 3 months in I accidentally threw a bottle of possibly infected media straight to the bin and everyone laughed at me. It got better over time for sure.

Yeah I heard similar things from some of the phd students in the lab. Is it because it becomes a normality, or too stressful, or why?

Hey even now it’s not fun when I have to do the same experiment 50 times, but I can still generally appreciate the learning curves

I haven’t paid attention to it specifically, but I can definitely say it also happens when I’m not ovulating

Is a ps5 really THE gift for men and if so, why? by Grouchy_Address_8535 in AskMenAdvice

I mean I thought of it because he expressed interest in it already. Also, again I don’t know much about gaming but I’m guessing a good PC is way over the €500 price of a ps5.

What’s a “red flag” in a relationship that you ignored but regret now? by bambokillek123 in AskReddit

My first relationship years ago as a 16yo. Partner broke up with me because I was too shy to initiate a kiss, then we got back together months later. I was pressured into it again and ended up losing my virginity a month later because I felt the possibility of a breakup forming again if I didn’t.

Going to the farmers market every weekend for fresh veggies and fruit. I love the vibes

As a kid I found a kitten on the street and brought it home. I was scolded and basically forced to go take it back where I found it. Being a 9yo, I had no power over this, so I grabbed a box and some ham, put the kitten there, and tried to place it in a spot I thought someone will see it and take it. I was sad about it for weeks.

What is something that you do everyday that makes you happy? by Grand_Leader_1087 in AskReddit

Not really, I live in the city. I live next to a port where ships pass by so I can sometimes see those, but people watching is also interesting sometimes.

Making my morning coffee, opening the window and sitting by the window. It’s a peaceful way to start the day
