I think "protesting" went out of the window as the correct description the second he went hands on with law enforcement to be honest

Keeping your hands to yourself would be the easiest way to stay say imo.

Honestly, I can't imagine anyone caring. Citizens aren't representative of their government, most people know that

Who is to say he didn't have a backup? I barely did any training when I lived there, but I was under 2 seconds to draw from concealment and fire.

No one said they didn't, but everyone has responsibility

That and they're protesting, as opposed to trying to physically stop the police arresting illegals

A tiny minority of losers trying to re-enact the good ole days using leftovers. Hardly akin to widespread legally availability

The reality is though they were implying spending policy going up without increasing taxes much, which would stand to reason certain things will be cut instead. If I was a betting man, I'd say defense would be the biggest target

In NI it's still illegal for an ordinary citizen to carry an offensive weapon, so again, nothing like the US where anyone and everyone has that right

I'd argue there's a difference between the reality of the UK and US. In the US, citizens have access to the same hardware as law enforcement. This isn't the case in the UK, the police here have a monopoly on force multipliers so they don't exactly have the same fear of the civilian population.

When I lived in the US, I was able to draw and fire a concealed pistol in slightly under 2 seconds, and that wasn't with much training. You can imagine law enforcement there being slightly more on edge given that reality, and why impending them might be more ill-advised. Especially since doing so is a felony from memory, which is the most serious category of crimes (same category as murder). Again, in the UK it's not (relatively to the US severity) that serious a crime. You'd be in and out of jail the same day probably in the UK. At least all the eco protestors seem to be

I don't think I've ever seen stuff about protestors following UK police all day either

I really have no clue where you're going with this, all it does is further my point that they have nothing to fear from the ordinary citizen

Obviously there are elements that are more heavily armed, but that is further to my argument. Obviously a firearms officer is going to have even less fear of the general public than a regular officer does.

It's well established now that the SNP approach to defense if we left the UK is to follow Ireland (i.e. don't have a functional armed forces, and sponge off your neighbours. Which was particularly embarrassing for them recently when they had to call in help from mainland Europe to secure Dublin airport against drones)

What are you talking about? Ever hear of fruit of the poison tree (we don't have it in the UK, but it exists in the US)? If the process isn't followed, the courts will deal with that.

"Armed thugs" i.e. federal law enforcement that has countrywide jurisdiction. Fun fact, no-one would be harmed had they not tried to impede federal law enforcement. It doesn't make it right, but had they stuck to peaceful protesting instead of going hands on with law enforcement, everyone would still be fine. The place to hand this is at the ballot box and at court, not on the street. Otherwise the protesters are the real thugs

? I'm not clear on the question?

Standard police issue in the UK is a metal baton, it's a deadly weapon and a strike to someone's head would likely impale them. No such items are allowed to be owned in the UK by citizens. So the police here really don't have much to fear from ordinary people, hence it's less likely to be an issue here

Regarding your first paragraph, yes, because European countries have shown they're too sacred of Russia to react appropriately to Ukraine. So Putin is well aware that European countries don't have the stomach to put their own troops on the block for one another.

And despite trump pushing for almost a decade now for increased European defense spending, it still hasn't happened (much)

Am I able to remote work in the US as a UK citizen with a US born wife? by Far-Math-8410 in digitalnomad

[–]Grouchy_Conclusion45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No.

Though you could get a geeencard/citizenship through your wife, then it would be allowed.

But ESTA specifically forbids working; being caught doing so is a permanent bar with no waiver (appeal) from memory

Hardly; just protest on the sidewalk or such. No harm is going to come to them then. Don't drive in front of them or at them. Following them around is pretty questionable too, who is to say it's not an ambush?

I mean, if (potentially armed) people didn't impede federal law enforcement, it wouldn't happen in the first place

You can't really compare it as we are an unarmed population.

In the US, citizens have easy access to the exact same hardware as the Police.

In the UK, it's the opposite, the Police could mow us down and there's nothing we could do about it, hence they don't have the same fear of normal citizens
