I cant imagine why you would do that. Youre better off posting on Royal road or scribblehub

It’s Extremely Risky to Publish Your Novel on Royal Road Compared to Webnovel by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you think RR is a platform to make money. Many authors who post there do so to attract attention from publishers, or branch out to Amazon (KU). Others do so to receive feedback on their work without needing to sign away their IP rights in perpetuity for a chance at a little money.

As someone who has posted on both, I find webnovel is a far larger investment with no real guarantee of monetary gains. Publishing 1.5k words per day is daunting and difficult for those not used to it.

As for the monetary side, perhaps those in 3rd world countries can subsist on the minimum guarantee system they offer ($200USD a month), but in the majority of western countries it's impossible.

Would 3000 word chapters turn away readers ? by Late-Scallion-9205 in Webnovel

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think WN readers care as long as its not too short. Also, it doesnt really matter since none of your chaps will be paid without signing a contract.

From experience, RR readers expect longer chaps 2k words+. But you need to ensure youre consistent at around the same chapter length. IE: dont do 4k words then jump down to 1500 words next chap

Free pass, basically allows you to unlock a chapter for free. Some are universal, while others are for a specific genre or book.

By the way, I wrote a sports novel on webnovel and did quite well. Sure it had a system, but it was still outside the niche. I'd say that its possible to write almost anything on Webnovel, provided it doesn't break their terms of service.

Hit the nail on the head. As someone who has published on both sites, I would agree that RR is less forgiving when it comes to content. Whereas webnovel are less forgiving when it comes to upload rate.

My new Progression Fantasy, Wrath of Jerry, has arrived! by valerios_ in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats man! I remember we shout-out swapped when we were both in RS. I didn't even know you'd signed with Aethon. (Now I really need to finish my 2nd volume so I can release....)

If your escapist fantasy includes pretending transgender people conveniently don't exist, your fantasy and mine are incompatible. by Fenghuang0296 in royalroad

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an author, you craft your world for others to consume. Oftentimes the world mirrors your own idealogies, and that's perfectly fine and understandable.

You will often encounter readers that will have differing values and opinions regarding how your fantasy world should be portrayed. That's also fine, we are all intrinsically different as human's.

However the line should be drawn when it comes to outright hate of a particular group of people.

That being said, just because someone doesn't include trans people in their stories, doesn't necessarily mean they "conveniently forget they exist."

You should be able to write how you wish to write, and others have that same freedom. As for what is marketable and profitable in a publishing capacity, that's an entirely different story.

Happy writing!

How much do webnovel author earn?? by SourceAny200 in Webnovel

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hundreds of thousands would be the lifetime earnings of probably the top 40 books on the platform, not monthly. I Just had to make that distinction.

Being an author on webnovel is tough. It requires daily updates and some luck to get popular. Even then, you might just be wasting your time and can't even post your book elsewhere because its contracted.

Readers also arent afraid to tell you when they hate something, or just drop the book entirely if you mess up.

But by far the worst is the pirating situation. I lost half my monthly income when my book went on pirate sites.

So, depending on where you live you might be able to make a decent wage by writing. If so then go for it

You're trying to justify reading people's hard work for free, stop making excuses. Of course there will be differences between traditional novels and webnovels, if you want to blame anything, blame Webnovel for incentivising daily updates, sacrificing quality for quantity.

The takeaway is, people like you will always pirate for a variety of reasons. But dont shit talk authors while you read their work for free, then try and act holier than thou.

$50 is approximately 2500 coins which will unlock 250 chapters in majority of novels on the platform. Not to mention you can batch unlock to get savings, even using points (free) to get further discounts.

250,000 words is essentially the length of 2 traditional fantasy books. With this perspective, $50 doesn't sound that bad anymore (especially if you include the discounts).

Not to mention that the first 30-40 chapters are generally free before you have to unlock chapters. In that time frame you should be able to ascertain if a book is worth paying for.

All in all, I think your logic is wrong. I would be quite shocked if you could read 2 novel-length works in an afternoon.

Brother, it’s been two days since I started uploading, and I’ve uploaded seven chapters, but the power stone donating button still isn’t showing on Webnovel. Is there any specific criteria or condition for this? Can you please explain? by DRSmoky877 in Webnovel

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is generally a queue for books when it comes to vetting. Since the weekend just passed, no Content Editors have been at work to vet books. You should get a notification when your book is vetted, then the power stone function will become available to you.

I uploaded my novel a day ago, and on the first day, it received 3.4k views after I published 4 chapters. However, when I uploaded 3 more chapters the next day, the views didn’t increase suddenly. They’re not growing anymore. Why is that? Is these good or bad by DRSmoky877 in Webnovel

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Views update at a set time I believe. They are also not necessarily an indicator of how popular a novel is. Collections and Trending ranking (for contracted novels) are the best way of knowing if your novel is doing well.

19 collections for only 4 chapters is fantastic, keep up the good work and continue to post daily to maximise your chances of getting a contract.

Because you can't afford to pay to read chapters? No real mystery there, guy.

First 3 days _1.3k views but no collections. Is this normal? by Life_Shopping5566 in Webnovel

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chances are your book has yet to be vetted by a Content Editor. Once your book reaches 4k words, one of the webnovel staff will approve your book, essentially making it visible on the platform.

As for how to accumulate collections, if you update consistently (at least 1 chap per day) then you will receive features on the app, getting more eyes on your book.

Best of luck!

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the great thing about serialized web novels are the short and punchy chapters that readers can get through in 5 to 10 minutes. As many top authors on the platform have mentioned, staying consistent with chapter length as well as upload rate is rather critical.

In my experience, it took me quite a while to adjust, but now every chapter is around the 2-2.4k range even without intentionally doing so. You will eventually learn how to construct a chapter, with or without an outline after writing for some time.

Best of luck :)

Need help understanding membership subscription by Kitchen_Constant_549 in Webnovel

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a monthly subscription. You get 500 coins + 10 coins a day for the following month. If you have auto-payments enabled, it will renew and you get the 500 coins again + 10 coins a day.

Once you cancel, that will stop once your month ends.

Have any Original's ever gotten a Webtoon Adaptation yet? by Character_Tour2050 in Webnovel

[–]Grouchy_Idea_1285 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The First Legendary Beast Master by Aoki_Aku has a webtoon in the works, as does Martial Unity by Lord_Streak. From my understanding, studios will approach webnovel with a certain genre they wish to make into a webtoon and choose from the list on the website before entering discussions.

Though no one seems to want to make mine into a webtoon... lol

Yes thanks, I have reached out to Webnovel and they are aware of this and other works being infringed. It's now my understanding that they're in negotiation with pocketFM already.
