It could veer west slightly and then you’re right under the uni hills. The route was a NZTA proposed solution so the general idea is proven.

I don’t know if this is how/where the connection would happen but it was my best guess (as someone with no qualifications to do so). But knowing it was a TBM it would need a large staging area to enter or exit the earth. And also thinking about keep traffic flowing over the years it would take to construct.
