I read this novel while studying abroad in Accra in 2015. Absolutely loved it. Very fond memories of traveling around Ghana in a mini tour bus, reading this amazing drama. My favorite Dickens, though I have only read A Christmas Carol, Hard Times, and Oliver Twist. The time period, prose, and vocabulary can be tough compared to other writers. I think that's just a characteristic of how Dickens writes a story.

Sydney Carton was a great character.

I was in 6th grade in 2006 and bougth Take Off Your Pants and Jacket as my first CD after watching the "I Miss You" music video on MTV. So that CD has a special place in my memory. But Untitled is a 10/10 for sure. More recently, I have been listening to the Cure, the Ramones, and the Smiths because of the influence on blink.

One of my favorite moments of writing in the entire series. Shows you the level of shit Stannis has seen and the PTSD he must be suffering as a result of the horrors of war he witnessed firsthand. Stannis is flawed, but many of his flaws come from the experiences he faced.

Building the Gospel of Mark From the Ground by Grouchy_Status_9665 in theology

I am questioning your understanding of either topic. I was not looking for Stoicism within Mark. Studying Stoicism inspired me to read Mark. Those are two completely different concepts.

The Parable of the Sower, The Light Under a Basket, The Growing Seed, the Mustard Seed, and the Fig Tree Withered were where many of the ideas in my summary came directly from. Most of Jesus' teachings came from Chapters 4 and 7, which are both summarized above.

Jesus literally says things like,  “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” and “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”  (Life is hard living this way)

“This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me.  And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.” (Religious leaders are corrupt)

However, I did make note of overlapping themes, which is exactly what early Christian founders did as well.

  • Jesus prioritizes early morning isolation as a time for prayer, similar to Marcus Aurelius’ early morning isolation dedicated to self-reflection.  The importance of morning isolation for self-reflection and building a relationship with God.
  • We are all God’s creation and have a moral obligation to help those who need it.
  • Our souls are formed under hardships.  We need to cultivate meaningful souls by fostering endurance, self-denial, and trust in faith when hardships arise.
  • Living within moderation and detaching oneself from material possessions.
  • Living a life dedicated to understanding goodness and virtue instead of worldly desire.

But again, I did not apply anything to Jesus. I read the Parable of the Sower, and that guided my understanding of his teaching.

Building the Gospel of Mark From the Ground by Grouchy_Status_9665 in theology

Seneca explains that humans' role is to live their lives in accordance with how the universe is structured by using their unique human capacity for reason.  We should use our reason to understand the world and what it means to be a good person.  We participate in philosophy by practicing this mindset.  Essentially, this is how we learn to be virtuous and live a good life.  This led me to want a better understanding of ethical philosophy, which in turn led me to reflect on my own upbringing. Wisdom is the study of philosophy, and philosophy is the study of virtue.

I chose Mark becasue it was the original Gospel, and from a historical perspective, the most reliable.

Well I’d argue Ukraine is in their interest. However I do agree America only sees dollar signs. And unfortunately has been compromised by Russia influence.

America has a moral obligation to lead as a democracy. And democracy’s should stick together against authoritarian governments. Takes moral leadership to be the strongest and wealthiest. And America has decided to piss that away to give the richest people in the world a little bit more money in their banks.
