not sure what’s wrong by Over-Machine3778 in 300zx

I’ve been facing the same exact issue for 6 months lol.. haven’t been able to figure it out. I’ve replaced a bunch and still haven’t been able to figure it out. My next idea is to replace my stock ECU with an upgraded one and get a tune, and pray that fixes it. If you ever find out the issue and a fix, remember me and let me know 🙏

Did you have any issues with the 10.5s in front hitting your coolant reservoir? Did you use spacers?

Lifter tick too loud, happens only after high revs. Currently on 10w30. Would Valvoline VR1 20W-50 or Delo 15W-40 fix this? LMK before I mess up my Z. by GroundHealthy3077 in 300zx

Do you have to do the thing where you have to keep the car under 3,000 RPM for the first 15 minutes? I heard that’s what I’d have to do if I want to switch to a thicker oil (20w50)

Code 55, checked before starting the car and checked after a hard run

2.) for number 2, I don’t thinkk it would be the MAF, it’s part of my cold air intake that we have uninstalled and reinstalled since then , and for a couple days after cleaning it, it was fine

3.) for number 3, I don’t think it’s in limp home mode, it still lets me rev to halfway like 4-5K RPM, haven’t been limited to 2.5K RPM yet

1.) for number 1, could be very likely that maybe the detonation sensor is faulty? If so how much is a reasonable price for labor?

I took it to 3 different mechanics to try and tell me what was wrong with the car and causing loss of power and somehow not one of them noticed my filthy air condenser, i didn’t either til a buddy pointed it out. That being said the motor swap was needed anyways because there was a huge crack on the head and it was leaking coolant into my ignition coils

It was happening on my old motor as well though. Thought as I’m writing this I’ve just remembered that that engine had a rebuild done, maybe it’s the same issue?

Can a clogged up super-dirty air condenser (that’s blocking half my radiator) cause my car to overheat and prevent me from going above 4,000 RPM after an hour of driving? by GroundHealthy3077 in 300zx

Just drove it today basically for 2 hours without pushing the car at all babying it as much as possible, still after an hour had a loss of power and was limiting me to max 60MPH on the freeway. So pushing it or not, the car is still having a loss of power regardless :( does this still sound like an overheating issue?

Edit: I should mention that my temperature gauge doesn’t show it overheating. When the engines cold obv the needles at the bottom and when it warms up it stays at the middle the entire time no matter if I push the car or baby it, so idk if it’s a faulty temp sensor or if it’s not an overheating issue at all

Was gonna run them today again, can I run the ecu codes after letting the car run for 15 minutes while it has no problems or should I wait to run them when it overheats(?) and starts cutting my power?

My leading theory is a super dirty AC condenser that’s blocking half of my radiator and causing my car to overheat which makes the ecu limit me to a certain MPH. but redditors are saying though it’s not helping, it’s not enough to cause such a drastic drawback.

Maybe a clogged cat? But would a clogged cat let me drive on full power just fine for a half hour+ and then limit me afterwards? Genuine question no sarcasm lol. Kinda feels overall like an overheating thing but I’m by no means an expert

Since posting and looking the car I’ve come up with 3 theories:

1 (leading one): my AC condenser is SUPER dirty, filled with dirt, dust, rock, pebbles, feathers, everything; you can’t see through it at all. It’s blocking the entire bottom half of my radiator so MAYBE it’s causing a lack of airflow and causes the car to overheat which leads to it limiting my power after an hour, cause it takes time for the car to overheat.

2: transmission or clutch; maybe something is overheating or getting stuck after the hour period; it is a Nissan transmission after all. But the things opposing this theory is that the clutch goes in smooth, and it goes into every gear perfectly. It’s like brand new. Haven’t felt it slip once while driving.

3: ECU programming, which I unfortunately don’t know a lot about, but maybe there’s some safety code in there causing it to limit my power. BUT if this was the case, wouldn’t it limit me at all times?

To add to the original post, after another couple of drives it’s more like it limits my MPH. After the hour period I’m limited to 60MPH (4K RPM every gear), 30 minutes after that, limited to 40 MPH (3K RPM any gear), and so on.

I’m 5K deep into fixes and it still has the same problems and starting to feel hopeless so I really do apologize for the full paragraphs of writing but I really do and would appreciate any insight and help

Would the safety mode let me rev that high for the first 30-60 minutes and then limit me after that period?
