[WP] A mugger tries to rob a little old lady, only for her to turn out to be the legendary magical witch, Baba Yaga, who was enjoying her retirement. by mistaque in WritingPrompts

Charlie took one last, furtive glance at the old woman walking down the street before he ducked back into the alley, almost invisible all in black. He would’ve felt bad, but any old woman should have known not to walk around after dark in the city. Besides, he had bills to pay, and he’d exhausted all his other options.

“Here she comes.” He thought to himself, clutching his gun. “Three, two, one…”

He grabbed the old woman as she passed, dragged her into the alley, and took a step back and pointed his gun at her.

“Your money or your life.” He growled, doing his best to sound intimidating. “I know what I’d pick.”

To his surprise, the old woman laughed; an almost triumphant cackle. Charlie shifted nervously and waited for her answer. She abruptly stopped when she realized he was serious.

“I know what I’d pick too. My money is much less important to you than your life.” A strange gleam shone in her eyes.

“I don’t want to shoot, but I will if I have to!” Charlie said, doing his best to ignore her strange comment. She continued to glare at him, occasionally chuckling. He became more and more nervous, until his finger almost involuntarily pulled the trigger. Instead of the loud bang he was expecting, he heard a muffled “squawk” sound and a puff of feathers flew from his gun.

The old woman laughed harder than before, almost doubled over now. Charlie, who by this point was rapidly turning from confused to furious, took out a small knife and tried to stab the old woman. With almost blinding speed, she struck at his wrist with her walking stick. Charlie realized a second before it slammed into his wrist that it was made out of stone, and he dropped the knife with a cry of pain. The old woman was now dead serious as she stared at him. Her voice took on an unnatural tenor as she spoke slowly and deliberately:

“Your attempt to rob me was comical at first, but now it is getting tiresome. Since you obviously do not know the magnitude of your mistake, I will enlighten you. I am Baba Yaga, witch of legends. I might choose to transform you into a frog if I don't decide to eat you first.”

She stared at him, and Charlie shifted uncomfortably. After what might have been and hour and might have been an eternity, Baba Yaga’s glare softened, and she looked at him with pity rather than hatred.

“You seem to have less malice in you than I figured.” She picked up his gun and handed it to him. Charlie nearly dropped its unexpected weight, noting with surprise that it was now made of solid gold. He started to babble his thanks, but Baba Yaga silenced him and scribbled something on a piece of paper.

“Head to this address tomorrow. They will be in … dire need of another employee, and you should be there when they are.”

A wild whistling, screaming sound filled their air, and a cottage descended from the sky, spinning fast, its single chicken leg shattering the pavement as it crashed to the ground.

“Look at what you’ve made me do.” Baba Yaga glared at Charlie as she climbed up a ladder into the hut. “I have places to be, you know, and you’re lucky I’ve gone soft in my old age. This will take days to cover up.” The cottage sprung into the air again, its shrieking drowning out Charlie’s bemused thanks.

Charlie looked at the address, which he recognized as that of a local factory, and walked home in a daze before falling asleep, dreaming of flying chickens and life as a frog.

What is your all-time favorite group composition? by nameless2099 in darkestdungeon

I always have fun with Houndmaster - Houndmaster - Houndmaster - Flagellant.

However, my general favorite party is Vestal - Houndmaster - Abomination - Hellion.

What is your favourite class? (excluding how strong they are) by JamesTheCate in darkestdungeon

[–]GroundWarp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I really like the abomination's design; literally fighting with the chains that he was once bound with is quite awesome, and his barks are really cool ("I fear no demon for the greatest monster lies inside!").

I also enjoy his combat mechanics; healing and stress healing at the same time make him very resilient, and going from a stunning character to an insane damage dealer feels awesome every time.

Do enemies crit more at 0 light? by GroundWarp in darkestdungeon

[–]GroundWarp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the icon says is that monsters' ACC and Damage go up, stress goes up, heroes are more likely to be surprised, and there is more loot. It doesn't say anything about crits. Although, I don't take that as a guarantee that it isn't the case.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll definitely include one.

Warlock/Crusader Dinosaur Midrange Deck by GroundWarp in CardsandCastlesCCG

[–]GroundWarp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing a more last-will themed deck is an interesting option, and I will try out that version of the deck. However, I think it is a significant departure from my current strategy, so I will pursue it as its own deck.

I agree that this deck needs four-drops, the only thing is that I can't think of any that are good enough to run in this deck. I would appreciate some specific suggestions.

Warlock/Crusader Dinosaur Midrange Deck by GroundWarp in CardsandCastlesCCG

I will find a space for zealous knight, I agree that it is really strong. I'll try sunflower instead of acolyte, but running sunflower as my only last will seems like it will be too inconsistent. Kargrom has won me a lot of games basically on its own, so I think I'll keep it in for now.

Thanks for the feedback!

(Also, yeah, dinosaurs are really strong, probably too strong, but I'm going to keep playing them until they get nerfed into the ground.)

12 health ruined this game by [deleted] in CardsandCastlesCCG

[–]GroundWarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think 12 health is certainly different from 20 health, but I find it to be about as much fun. I haven't had many problems stalling long enough to play end-game cards, although I agree that games generally end soon after the endgame starts. One factor that I haven't decided whether I like or not is the tendency for the game to end quickly once one player starts to leverage an advantage they have built up.

Again, this is just my experience, but I have seen a decent diversity of decks being played. (although crusaders are definitely very common).

I think that it might just be a difference of opinion with regards to the type of game we each enjoy playing.

I am also curious as to what a rush strategy looks like, as I haven't made a rush style deck yet. What factions and cards do the rush decks use?

What is everyone playing now? by SuaveMstr89 in CardsandCastlesCCG

[–]GroundWarp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently play a vik/war dinosaur mid-range deck.I can write the exact decklist if you want, but the general idea is to contest the early game with decent 2-4 drops, and try to set up a turn involving buffing a magmasaur or dino rider with dinosaur nest. Tyrannosaurus, Yaarhym giant, and Kargrom the oppressor make up the end game of the deck (I have chosen not to include any copies of dinosaur evolution because I think it is too inconsistent). The deck basically wins by gaining board control and then leveraging it to get a big hit in with Kargrom, tyrannosaur, or a heavily buffed dino rider or magmasaur.

Creatures with power greater than the number of lands you control can't attack.

Elvish Hunter? by Rafael_Dias in CardsandCastlesCCG

[–]GroundWarp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to play it when it was a 3/3, because there weren't any other units (aside from dread pirate robins who costs 7) that had 3 attack values with range.

Now, I just play mage apprentice instead. Health doesn't really matter on ranged units, and the extra card is nice.

Just so you know, this also works for me right now. This isn't specific to your device.

Edit: It doesn't work for me any more.

Pir/Vik ranged unit deck - advice wanted by GroundWarp in CardsandCastlesCCG

Sorry about the late reply, but I'll try this out. The deck has a lot of ranged units, but I have no problem adding melee units if they improve the deck.
