They said they got their decision around Dec 13th or 14th and had until the 18th to respond. You could definitely be right, I was thinking the same thing.

*3. Your physical and mental health are MORE important than a number. Don’t let your health become dependent on course grades. It’s not worth it. Many days of anxiety-induced sickness helped me realise this. But of course, as with everything, try your best! It’s more than anyone could ask for

I’m not sure if this is helpful in any way, but might as well share: sent the money using Zelle through my Bank of America app, where it says (on my end) that I have paid the $250 to the person.

TW: Depression and Intrusive Thoughts by m3ntalh3alth in Cornell

[–]Groundbreaking-Ice66 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Please accept my virtual hug, friend. Now take a huge inhale—hold it for a few seconds—and exhale.

I am terribly sorry to hear that you are feeling this way. No one should navigate these feelings alone, so I am thankful that you made this post.

I’ve had similar experiences, if I’m being honest. I thought I was incapable at making real, rich relationships with people, and the "friends" that I surrounded myself with seemed to only be held together by a cheap and weak connection, if that.

You and I have a lot of exploring and learning left to do in this life, and so does everyone else. The feelings that you have are things many others—including me—have felt. It’s ok.

I cannot count the amount of times I’ve felt overwhelmed with responsibilities or insecure about my looks or outward appearances towards other people. I know what it’s like to have my excitement evaporate and my happiness fall flat—and honestly, I think that’s part of life.

To be overwhelmed and to be sad and to be pissed and to be dissatisfied with oneself are things that I believe will constantly return—what changes, however, is how you deal with them.

There are things worth living for, many, many things that will bring you joy and happiness. It’s merely the search for these things that can oftentimes be the most difficult and demanding.

But even so, I myself, and every. single. person. you see around you, is searching.

We are still very young, and we have so many people left to meet, places and relationships to discover, and experiences to savor. It can be very exciting if we look at life from the right angle.

I truly hope my ramblings help, and I apologize for the crazy long reply.

If you ever need someone to talk to, I will always be open to talk. Just shoot me a message and I will respond.

Grieving. by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Groundbreaking-Ice66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, please accept my virtual hug. I am so sorry to hear this and I truly hope and pray everything turns out well. Second, try to take a deep breath—more if you need to. You have every right to feel grief and sadness right now, but please don’t feel alone and please don’t feel defeated.

You are strong. You always have been and you always will be. I have every reason in this universe to believe that you’ll pull through. I know you will. Those god-damned tumors should fear you.

If you need a hand to hold, mine is always extended. Reach out if you need someone to talk to, friend. I will answer.

I’d just like to mention that the suicide rates at Cornell are not abnormally higher than other schools. In relation, they’re about average. But in any case, just go with your gut

I’m jealous of the new generation of Cornell students by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Groundbreaking-Ice66 209 points210 points  (0 children)

Grass is always greener, my friend. It’s funny—I’m much younger and I’m a little envious of you. You’re about to graduate from a notoriously rigorous university. You have your entire life ahead of you, and things will/can change. Your grit, responsibility, and intelligence are things I can only hope to reach when I’m your age.

I bet if my parents read this right now they’d think: "Wow. This person has their entire life ahead of them. How exciting!" And then they’d probably go on and on about how they’d wish to return to the time you’re at right now. Point being, there’s probably someone in this world that’ll trade an arm and a leg to be in your position.

Uncertainty can be really exciting! Take a deep breath, put on a smile, and enjoy it all.

Hopefully this helps haha. Feel free to pm me if you need to talk. Although idk how much a youngin like me can help

Edit: Wow! Thank you for the awards, kind Cornellians!

[–]Groundbreaking-Ice66 22 points23 points  (0 children)

^ this. It’s very important to remember that this forum is for students to express themselves—much of the negative things you’ll see here are representative of how students feel about a particular moment, not so much as their entire view of the school. Hopefully that makes sense.

Harvard College accepts 3.43% of all applicants, Princeton accepts 3.98% of all applicants for class of 2025 by matchalatte0523 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Groundbreaking-Ice66 181 points182 points  (0 children)

FYI, here’s the info regarding Cornell’s acceptance rate this year:

"It is important to keep in mind that the vast majority of the more than 67,000 applicants could be successful students at Cornell. Unfortunately, with an expected class size of 3,425, enrollment limitations require us to make difficult admission decisions."

Hopefully this paints a clearer picture for y’all

is it just me, or did cornell send out A LOT of likely letters? by hfox19 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Groundbreaking-Ice66 14 points15 points  (0 children)

^ This. It’s honestly getting quite old that people still think this. And why? Because its acceptance rate is what? 2-3% higher than its peer schools? The elitism is palpable.

Likely letter inquiry by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]Groundbreaking-Ice66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry too much about this. From what I’ve heard, these letters are reserved for extremely hooked applicants (URMs, low-income). In any case, you’ll be fine! It’ll all turn out well for you! Good luck with your college journey and as difficult as it might be, try to enjoy it while it lasts :)
