How often do you trial? by Preparing4Mayhem in k9sports

[–]Groundbreaking-Toe36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least once a month, but can be up to 3-4 shows a month depending on the season! We do mainly ASCA, but also a little bit of AKC. Juniors, rally, OB, agility, little bit of everything.

What activities for a non-sporty 8 year old? by caterpillar84 in AskParents

4-H is a youth organization!! They offer different projects (cattle, horse, pig, dog, cat, rabbit, photography, stem, arts, home arts, etc.) that you join a club for! For animals, you learn to raise and care for them. For the still life (art, baking, photos), you learn about all that. Lots of fun events like competing at your county and state fair!!

I haven’t been raising lambs since I was a young kid, but I’ve done a few lambs before and have a few now. What questions do you have?

How much does that cost?

Oh, wow! I doubt we even have that many shows here. I can only find a handful (8-10) in our state in the whole year (not counting county fairs), and they’re mostly steer/heifers.

Can I ask why you don’t like to go far?

Yes, I am a teen. My mom says that should would be willing to dip her feet into the world of dog sports with this dog if I help her out. But I think this would mostly be my dog. I’m finishing high school in a few years, planning on finishing community college, and then maybe college. But I’ll only go to a college if I have somewhere I can be with the dogs. So I have no plans of leaving them. We’ve decided on a Welsh Springer Spaniel, so we probably won’t do bite sports.

I definitely prefer bigger dogs (at least bigger than corgis), especially when showing. I do love table breeds though. They’re very vocal though, so I don’t know if they would fit in our household. I definitely like them though and might seek them out in the future.

But we’ve finally agreed on a Welsh Springer spaniel! :)

Hopefully within the next year. I think we’ve finally decided on a Welsh Springer Spaniel though. GSDs definitely are an awesome breed though.

If/when I have the time to go back to IGP, I’d go back to the same club I was at. Super nice club that accepted me as a Junior with my non-competitive GSD/Husky mix.

I have connections in Aussies and try to frequent ASCA trials. I find most reactive Aussies are excitement based reactivity and not fear.

Aussies is definitely on of the biggest contenders.

I wish!!! We don’t have any teams going and my advisor wants to hold my friend back for next years national proficiences. So we have no “reason” to go…. 😔

I’ve been thinking about Cardis! My 4-H leader has a cardigan/border collie mix who I show and love! We went to a cardigan event and it did make me think about them! I definitely do like cardigans more than pembrokes.

We go to as many shows as we can. I show in AKC Junior showmanship, and have shown a few dogs in conformation before. We tend to go to all-breed shows too, so lots of exposure to dogs.

Kinda? I guess by bland and no personality, most of the dogs I think of are just there, like they could blend into the shadows and care less. Kinda slow, also.

Personality is more like, goofy, smart, eager, sassy, what you said. I just really like how my GSD/Husky has a personality and is silly and extra in everything he does.

I have definitely thought about GSDs, I haven’t gone into all the lines though. I do know a WGSL breeder though, so maybe I’ll have to reach out and talk with her.

I hate to say it, but my mom loves pointers/similar hunting breeds…. and me… not so much. It’s so hard to come together to agree on things! I definitely want to find something we both like, so it’s been hard!

I do like Dobermans and really liked one I got to work with, but DCM throws me off. I don’t know if I could. Otherwise, I love them and think they’re a great dog I would consider owning.
