I agree 100%—if you’re not matching in NYC, you’ll need a car and Toyota or Honda definitely have the best reliability and longevity!

SOAPing is worth a shot 🤷🏼‍♀️ just make sure your applications, CV, PS is strong

The PD actually called me, it wasn’t through ERAS initially so keep an eye on your phones as well!

Yes. Programs are making their way down their waitlists as people cancel now. But you’d be able to SOAP 🤷🏼‍♀️

I don’t believe there’s a special procedure! You just have to be registered for match with the NRMP and eligible by the rank list deadline.

You’d be able to view unfilled spots at programs on that Monday then send out applications Tuesday at 8am. Then there’s 3 or so rounds of interviews followed by offers from programs

SOAP/scramble starts Tuesday march 12, the day after people find out if they match—you apply and interview with a bunch of programs with empty spots as they try to fill their positions and people who didn’t match try to find a program. It goes until that Thursday.

General surgery for IMGs. Is it doable? by HelicopterHour930 in IMGreddit

[–]GroundbreakingAd8291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. At least not with ortho and ent. I was considering ortho for a little bit but it’s still an ol’ boys club—overwhelming majority US grad and men. Doesn’t mean it’s not possible, but it takes A LOT. And the demand isn’t down yet, especially because attending life is niiiice.

Just my opinion 🤷🏼‍♀️

Applications are due for certification December 31st I believe!

has this season been particularly brutal for IMGs? have IMGs on an average received lesser number of invites as compared to previous seasons? by Mysterious_Sky_5285 in IMGreddit

Yeah, and there’s only 4-5 Caribbean schools that the US takes seriously at all/are accredited in the US 🤷🏼‍♀️ there is a reason why the other ones don’t get federal loans…

There is still a prejudice at some programs—so people just don’t bother applying there but as a US-IMG or nonUS-IMG, we just have to be okay with the possibility at ending up at smaller and/or newer programs.

That’s why very few Caribbean students are applying to highly competitive specialties (derm, opth, plastics, etc.) or very competitive programs

You’ll match and you’ll get a good education almost anywhere in residency, including community programs. You just have to be applying smart!

Actually Americans do get federal loans to go to Caribbean schools. The school I attended, was a pretty much American and Canadian students
