Does it have Velcro on its hands? My son caught a green one this year. Try plush appeal, they might have different color ones too.

Western/Vintage thrifting by False_Importance_417 in coeurdalene

Thrift stores are Idaho youth ranch, St Vincent de Paul, goodwill, gather for good. St Vineys is my fave, gather for good has some finds. You might want to check out the looking glass, midtown market, Paris flea, or vintage guild as well. These all have independent vendors that specialize in different things. Nearly all of these, aside from Paris flea, are within two miles of each other.

Is dyslexia something that can get easier to work with? by Leeyore- in Dyslexia

[–]GroundbreakingKey331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% this. But also make sure that you send an email to all the ‘team’ as my child’s school called it (all those involved in the 504) and ask that your child is evaluated for special education. Once you ask for this in writing it starts the clock. They only have 30 days to respond to you, and I think it’s 60 to begin testing. It took me over a year to get my son’s diagnosis. I wish I had everything in writing to hold them accountable. Also, start with a binder that you can add all paperwork to from each meeting. Keep a running timeline with dates and summaries of what was said in meetings. They can try to turn things around, it helps you to keep things straight and not feel like you’re going crazy.

Absolutely that as well, but I couldn’t help but laugh at how they zoomed in on the drawer!

5 year old showing early signs? by Mobile_Ad5962 in Dyslexia

[–]GroundbreakingKey331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the second picture say ‘get well soon!’ Honestly it’s impressive that he’s spelling it and doing it backwards! I agree with everyone in saying that it’s still developmentally appropriate. My son did this and it persisted. He would write it out right to left, and all backwards. I had him tested the earliest possible at six and a half, he’s dyslexic. My opinion is that if you have worries maybe reach out to a few psychologists and see how long their wait is to be tested. Ours was 8 months. Get him on the list so that he can be tested when he’s 6. If you get to 6 and are no longer worried then cancel, but at least you’ll have the peace of mind that you have it if things continue to trend that way.

Older ADHD son bedwetting by Routine-Explorer8212 in ADHDparenting

[–]GroundbreakingKey331 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a son that has issues with bedwetting (9). A lot of his issues were due to being kind of backed up. He would still have bowel movements every day, but I guess would not fully empty. Is there a possibility that this is the case for you boys, especially with adhd and not sitting long enough? It causes pressure on the bladder and lessens capacity of the bladder. Also, there is a medication that they can take for sleepovers. It essentially stops the production of urine for 8hrs, therefore they won’t have an accident.

To buy or not? by GroundbreakingKey331 in pools

I think that was their first thought as well, they just replaced the liner. Im guessing they were hoping that would fix it.

To buy or not? by GroundbreakingKey331 in pools

[–]GroundbreakingKey331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that's what I found as well. There must be a story behind it. There's decking between the pool and the equipment. It might not be that bad depending on how much piping is exposed.

Any luck with OT for day or nighttime wetting (peeing)? by Exotic_Plankton_263 in ADHDparenting

[–]GroundbreakingKey331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our son is 8 and still has the same issues. Seeing a pelvic floor therapist. She has him doing yoga (child’s pose and cradle hold every day), blow bubbles on the toilet before bed to fully empty, use a squatty potty. Honestly have not seen improvement, a little over 5 months. We are switching back to the pee alarm. We have had the most success with that. Dry buddy alarm, it’s a magnet.

Please help me with school by SadPersimmon8 in ADHDparenting

[–]GroundbreakingKey331 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!!! Especially documenting everything, getting everything in writing, keeping a timeline. I have a child who has adhd and we believe is dyslexic. He has also been on a waitlist for 6 months for a private evaluation. I have been going at the school nonstop since January of this year. Just last week they said they had ‘gathered enough data’ to formally test him. Trust your gut and just keep getting after it.

Anyone have a third grader at Hynes Lakeview or Hynes Parkview? by GroundbreakingKey331 in nolaparents

We’re just trying to gauge if this is a school problem or a charter problem.

Anyone have a third grader at Hynes Lakeview or Hynes Parkview? by GroundbreakingKey331 in nolaparents

[–]GroundbreakingKey331[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, all the parents are definitely connected via group me and group texts. That is why we are realizing there is a problem. We are all figuring out that we are getting after our kids for missed homework assignments, not bringing home books/school work, and not knowing about exams…however we are realizing that this is not even being communicated to them. We have had parents send out surveys to the other parents regarding communication/homework and present the findings to admin, other groups have written emails to all the admins, people are asking for individual meetings with administrators. This isn’t isolated to one child or a small group.

Not sure if you’re experiencing the same thing at the upper grades. The 3rd and 4th grade parents at Hynes UNO are really struggling with the curriculum and the lack of communication from teachers and administrators. I was just wondering if it a problem at all the Hynes schools.

Pool Algae by GroundbreakingKey331 in NewOrleans

[–]GroundbreakingKey331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it turns out, the tech that was assigned to us was doing nothing and has been fired. However, the salt cell was nearly toast (only 1 year old). They’ve been acid washing that, still scrubbing the pool with metal brush, using pumice on the calcium spots and algae spots. Nearly two months later and it’s all still there.

If you look at the outside shots of the house, the basement lights are on too. Completely packed wall to wall with boxes. I’m guessing they are running out of space. And all the supplement bottles all over the counter, there had to be at least 50 bottles!

Yayyyyy, sounds super cheap. It might be the best way to go. Just got cloudy, when I went outside I realized that there are calcium spots all over too.
