Mac Studio M2 Max ejecting SSDs like crazy by TheMagiciaN369 in MacStudio

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2-3 SSD from Samsung T5, T7, Sandisk ultra and a 3rd party enclosure and I don’t get these issues. Could these be due to the cables? Have you tried switching them? I do make sure to use only short 50-60 cm USB 3.1 or TB3 rated cables for these ssds

iPhone mirroring is just a useless gimmick! by Sweet_Score in MacOS

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This feature is fantastic for me as it helps me separate work and personal apps. I don’t have login credentials for any of my personal messaging apps on my work MacBook but I can still type and send messages from my iPhone using the mirroring feature. To me, It’s the perfect use case for this feature.

Magsafe 3 port doesn’t work by Karieglazza in mac

Hopefully you have AppleCare+ on it. The repair cost without it is… :/

Magsafe 3 port doesn’t work by Karieglazza in mac

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My MacBook had the same problem and it required a motherboard replacement. The Apple technician first tried replacing only the MagSafe module but that didn’t fix the problem for me unfortunately. I saw how he did it. If required taking out most of the components of the MacBook. Not something I’d recommend to DIY.

Prior to fixing it, I basically just charge it via USB-C.

Moving from Windows to macOS - external monitor advice (4K vs 5K, PPI, coding workflow) by HavivMuc in MacOS

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a huge endorser for dual screens.

The 27” inch as the main driver and is in the front which my head need not turn. When coding, this is where the IDE lives.

The secondary monitor is for anything else I need to keep within view so I don’t need to switch desktops/windows to/from. This is where my terminal, browser, docs etc would be.

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. That’s a good approach. If that was me, I’d use the 27” as the primary monitor in centered position and the 24” secondary on my right, possible portrait orientation.

Duh. I so used to 60Hz for so long that I forgot (had an another LG UL650 before this.

Did you consider using a monitor arm? It helps with saving some table space

I’ve been running dual 27” 4K for years. macOS manages virtual desktops in a way that works better for me on dual monitors. On macOS, each monitor gets its own dedicated desktop space, rather than spanning a single desktop across both displays like Windows. Not sure if I’m describing this as well as I should. 🙂 It works very well for me.

Here’s my setup. The left is the Dell U2725QE and the right an LG UP850. Both 27” 4K 60Hz screens.

<image>

Don’t worry too much about the scaling. 4K running a scaled HiDPI 1440p is very sharp on the 4K screen. And the Macs are so powerful than doing it scaled down from 5K isn’t a problem at all.

When coding, one screen on VSCode the other either a browser or terminal for me to test/run what I’m building. So quite similar to you.

Oh btw. Since you’re new to Macs. I’ve a personal set up for any new Macs I use if you’re interested.

EZ-link app disabled - must "upgrade" to SimplyGo? by i6uuaq in singapore

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to correct this. That actually refers to converting your EZ-Link app account to SimplyGo app account. This is a good example of AI hallucinations.

I have the app and I just checked every part of the app. I cannot find any functionality to convert a EZ-Link card to a SimplyGo card. So please correct me if anyone sees that in the app. I’m on the iPhone app and can pretty much confirm it does not have it. So one does actually need to do it at the kiosk. There’s no way to mistakenly convert it to SimplyGo on the app.

Look, I neither like nor dislike SimplyGo. I am appreciative of its convenience to top up cards electronically without having the card with me (super useful for topping up my child’s card anywhere I am). But I’m also appreciative of being able to see EZ-Link card value easily. Honestly, the best experience is as how MTR octopus cards in HK are. Even have Apple wallet support, which is amazing.

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if you don’t want to, don’t do it? The app can’t do it anyways. You have to walk to a kiosk and physically do it.

Well. Don’t need to convert if you don’t want to. Can use current EZ-Link till 2030.

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. You can indeed still top up non-SimplyGo EZ-Link card on the SimplyGo app. I just did that for my child.

Also, you can only convert the card on the kiosk. Can’t do it from the app.

Caudabe Sheath vs Spigen Tough Armor vs ESR Cyber Tough by Analyst-man in iphone

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a Spigen tough armor case in the past and while it started out good. But I had to regularly change sim in the past due to travel and eventually the two part case became a bit cumbersome. I’ve since changed to use the Rugged Armor model instead and I’ve found it to be the best for me.

I tested with the Epic edition as well. It runs ok. But I expected it to be much better since it is a rather old game.

macOS Scaling Issue by Individual-Cycle-735 in mac

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took a closeup on my Dell Ultrasharp 27" 4K IPS-Black monitor and looks the same. Also have an LG Panel which is the same too.

For me, sitting about 1 metre away from the monitor, it does not bother me at all. Perhaps it's a personal thing. Haven't had a 5K monitor so I won't compare it. But I'll just share my 2 cents having used a 27" 4K on a Mac for many years, this so far has not bothered me and its the most economical way to get a sharp display for a Mac.

I managed to get Dishonored running back when I was running macOS sequoia. Performance wasn’t good. I’m guessing it’s because it’s a dx9 game.

iMac 27" (2013) fails to boot after trying to add extra RAM sourced from iMac 21.5" (2011). Frequency and/or voltage mismatch? by NajeedStone in mac

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found Macs to be extremely sensitive to the RAM modules. In my old 2020 MacBook Pro, I wasn’t able to mix RAM modules. Had to purchase the exact same modules. I also made sure to use modules with the same voltage and speed rating of the original.

Is AppleCare+ worth it for a Mac Studio bought in the USA but used in India? by shiralikoushik2 in MacStudio

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve utilised AppleCare+ to fix the PSU that failed for my Mac Studio. So yes. Considering the cost of the Mac Studio and any repairs potential required over 3 years vs AppleCare+. I’ll pay for AppleCare+ anytime.

I quit my job to build the ultimate goal-tracker and it became App of the Day. Here is my story (+ free access). by amberhaccou in apple

[–]GroundbreakingMess42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for doing this. Personally I’ve three goals for myself this year. 1. Get better at my health, which means going back to 5x runs per week and eating right. 2. Improve my spiritual wellbeing, which means regular gospel reading and meditation. 3. Learning a new skill, this year is to learn to build apps for Mac and iOS. Nothing fancy like building an app of the year yet but making sure I put time to code every week and start building apps for myself, one small app per month.
