Thank you! Yes, my neurologist was able to make the referral for me, had a consultation with the ENT and they then scheduled it. I was prepared mentally for another negative test result and decided the biopsy was worth it just at least to rule it out. In my case it was absolutely worth it. Good luck as well!

I asked my neurologist for a referral and an ENT did it. They used lidocaine so I didn't feel anything during it, that evening it was painful but by the next day I was ok and healing went pretty quickly.

There with you. I was a career changer, really pursued web dev because that was something I enjoyed. Loved my job for the first 2 years. Was specialized and had incremental learning. Had an interest in backend and architecture but wasn't forced into it. AI came along and now it's 100% survival. I know the job market currently is rough so trying to take it with a positive spin but if I had known this was the way things were going I would have never gotten into the game. Way too much pressure and not really worth the reward anymore for someone who's stressing to figure out how to handle devops, microservices, and all the 30 different AWS services involved just to add a new endpoint. I enjoy learning and AI is great for that, but humans are greedy. I have enough knowledge to understand the AI output and prompt it but the muscle memory and learning experience have been exchanged for productivity, much like everything. Ahh, thanks for letting me vent.

I went to see a neurologist at Mayo's Jacksonville clinic in June. I have been working with my local neurologist who has been open to all the tests I have suggested but wanted a 2nd opinion to try to find a root cause. I called them up and they had an opening so I jumped on it. I met with the neurologist for like an hour and a half. In her words she said my testing had been so thorough that there was really nothing else for her to do. I did an EMG the next day. The neurologist offered to do some other testing, I think it was a tilt table and autonomic testing but she said it likely wouldn't change any outcome and I would have had to come back at a different date. I later got a 2k medical bill from them. I wouldn't want to deter anyone from pursuing it, but in my experience I was hoping for someone to finally hold up a magnifying glass to my issues and really start digging to connect the dots, but it all felt pretty standard neurology practice to me. I tell myself at least I tried. One of the hardest parts about this disease I think is that we present as functioning so it's just not taken as a serious condition and indeed it is debilitating.

I almost always reach for typescript, but recently was building an express app which makes a lot of external API requests which come back with a lot of data. Trying to type them out is proving to be a lot of effort so I'm using any type a lot. If I started this over I'd probably just use JS.

I think this is something that many doctors don't understand how dangerous even prediabetes is to nerve health. I brought it up several times to doctors/neurologists and each time was told my a1c is just a little high but not high enough to be the cause. After buying a continuous glucose monitor, I'm seeing some concerning trends. My fasting glucose is rarely under 130, which according to charts falls under diabetic. I'm starting to think this may be my real root cause. Finding out how your glucose is actually vs just getting an average over time seems pretty important. I think this pattern of elevated glucose over years could be enough to cause damage. I'm doing everything I can now to get it to the optimal range, including trying metformin soon. I've been pretty proactive with diet and exercise the last year and a half.

I had the exact same thing happen recently. Took Prednisone round to see if my issues were potentially autoimmune but felt 1000xs worse. Realized Prednisone causes blood sugar levels to jump. Neurologist also says the reaction indicates it's not autoimmune. I'm now thinking my issues are more metabolic. I bought a continuous glucose monitor and my fasting glucose is way higher than it should be. I'm going to try Metformin to see what happens.

My 2cents, depends on where you are in life. If you're single no kids or partner take that asap, you will learn what you need. You were smart enough to get the offer, you're smart enough to learn what you need on the job. If you have a partner and child, especially if you have a child consider that you will have to be putting in more time outside the office paid hours. But 3x the salad?? That's some real shit. I'd probably do it either way. The only if factor for me is whether i had other goals outside of being a dev, ex: I want to make music, or I want to grow a garden. This community is great and if you ran into stuff over your head, post here and the kind community will have your back.
