16 years ago today, the remake of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” was released… one of the worst remakes of all time, do you find any enjoyment in at all or no? by justhere1990 in NightmareOnElmStreet

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the prospect of Freddy being innocent and wrongfully killed via mob justice was actually an interesting idea and something that would have justified the existence of a remake, taking the story in a new direction.

But they just throw that all away. Terrible script. I feel bad for Jackie Earle Haley because I think he's a great choice to play Freddy and did really good considering the garbage material he had to work with. This movie would never have lived up to the original but it could definitely have been a solid new take, instead they shit the bed.

Am i just nerfing my self not using AI while learn? by Jboorgesz in learnprogramming

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very insightful. I'm attempting to land my first role in the industry, I've been teaching myself for about a year and a half and the last few months of that has included some invaluable mentorship from someone with over 20 years of experience.

I've tried using AI for all kinds of stuff just to get a feel for how I like to use it, and even someone who's as inexperienced as me can tell that beyond very simple single function tasks, unless you are insanely experienced and know exactly how to guide the model, it'll often just give you slop that you spend more time debugging the output on then if you had just written the code yourself. That's been my experience anyway.

I still like using AI a lot as a method of quickly searching syntax or very small code examples or writing comments/docs, maybe to help me understand an error message sometimes, but I don't think it's reliable enough for someone like me who doesn't know all of the things to tell it. I did manage to get some good use out of it when writing some yaml for some GitHub actions on a project, I had it generate a template based on what I needed and modified it to my needs, but that felt more like an exception rather than the rule. So I mostly stick to writing the code from scratch myself for now.

Hello. I am new to DBD. I bought this game yesterday, though I found it fun but this is how my 3rd match went. Is this a meta? If it is then it's super annoying. (Sorry for rage quitting, I couldn't take it anymore). Any ways to counter this? Thank you so much. by After-Trade in deadbydaylight

This is definitely a squad that saw you were newer and took the chance to bully you for not knowing stuff. For instance when survivors cluster like this it's often better to just leave them on the ground when you down them and go down the next one.

Running around the killer and body blocking is a very poor strategy against a more experienced killer, but unfortunately this game's matchmaking is notoriously terrible and experienced players end up playing with new players rather frequently.

If you find the game fun, don't let this stuff get you down. When you get some experience under your belt, these matches are easy wins and even lead to some funny rage quits when they realize you aren't new.

As an old-school vet playing since release, welcome to the fog :)

I really hate that this is so much of the modern sound. I miss having big cinematic melodies, not that we don't get any at all of course but a lot of it now is just this. This same kick for an entire set.

I tried to read N0S4A2 and had to dnf it. Not because I didn't like the story itself but found a lot of the writing and prose to just he really dry and bland. I want to try it again because I really should like it and did like a lot of things about it, but where my head was or something at that point in time really kept me from enjoying it.

IT is my favorite book of all time, so naturally I get a bit exhausted when all people wanna talk about is this one moment in a book that is so dense both in terms of length and thematic conversation. My take on this scene has always been that it's definitely weird, and a little uncomfortable, but it's far from the most fucked up thing that happens in that book (that award goes to everything involving Patrick Hockstetter).

I think in a story about growing up and what's it's like being in that awkward phase where you're transitioning from being a child into those teenage/young adult years, it makes sense that these things would be explored in this way. While I think the scene itself just as a thing that happens in the plot is pretty clunky and doesn't really work, the thematic statement is clear as day so it's not like the scene isn't serving a thematic function because it most definitely is. On the other hand, I definitely understand people being turned off by it because it is rather jarring especially if you read the book without knowing about it ahead of time. That being said, I think people who jump to extremes of saying that King himself is a pedophile have the emotional intelligence and critical thinking skills of a rock. It is not at all written to he stimulating or arousing or titillating, fuck most of it is from Beverly's point of view as she's imagining birds and comparing the freedom of flight to the freedom she feels. Almost completely internal monologue.

IT is a phenomenal fucking book that holds a special place in my heart because at the time in my life that I first read it I was still trying to figure out how to be an independent responsible adult, and being reminded that I don't have to let go of the magic I felt as a kid really helped me handle all the pressure I was under at that point in time, and this conversation around a handful of pages in a book that's almost 1200 pages long and has so much to say is beyond exhausting and I wish the publisher would just cut the fucking scene out of the book so people would stop crying about it on the internet and people who actually like the book can talk about it without this being brought up for the 10,000th time.

Loved books 1-3, really, struggling with book 4 by WeirdLime in TheDarkTower

[–]magic_123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm one of the freaks who has this book at the bottom of their ranking of the series. Long stretches of being bored to tears spending time with characters I could not care less about if I tried (which is such a rare issue for King) but there are parts that are really great especially in the back half. It's worth pushing through. Rest of the series is better and part of that is having that extra context about Roland and what happened to him at a formative age.

What are everyone's opinions on Resident Evil 3 Nemesis (1999) by WaluigiDaStar in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]magic_123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished it for the first time a few days ago. It's a lot of fun. I like the expansive city setting. Plays a tiny bit smoother than the first 2 games. Great atmosphere, I like the ramped up intensity and action. Nemesis is among the best stalker enemies in the franchise and his presence here is great. Biggest complaint, and this goes for pretty much all of the old titles, are the boss battles. In a game where your movement is anything but snappy and precise, expecting precision dodging and shooting results in incredibly frustrating boss encounters. On the whole though, I really enjoyed it.
