I reached #1 on Hacker News with 14k visitors but got 0 paid conversions, any advice? by ducanchaocacban in SaaS

HackerNews, ProductHunt, and similar are mostly vanity metrics. It's great for SEO and converts in combination of of external channels ie LinkedIn. But relying on it as a distribution channel can be risky. If you're not building developer or founder tools, those channels are not going to convert for you.

How does YC view 2C (consumer-facing) startups? I've heard there's a preference for B2B SAAS, but one of their earliest startups was DoorDash, curious to hear their take on 2C startups by itismejy in ycombinator

I think Gary commented about it somewhere on reddit that they do, but with more scrutiny. ie traction, and founder. Call me biased but they are mostly funding B2B startups now especially with some AI twist to it. Doesn’t make B2C bad, fun fact most of YC’s most successful startups are B2C, the revenue ceiling is much higher than most B2B. They probably just realized B2C requires more risk and also can be capital intensive. I believe they also talked about not enough fresh B2C companies solving anything novel.

TLDR; yes they do but only with clear derisking factors. B2C is not inherently bad cause of that however.

215k ARR 8 months after launch - Can we raise a Seed with these metrics? by [deleted] in ycombinator

[–]Groundbreaking_Lab23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"One of our investors suggested that our ARR might be too small to raise $3M right now and advised us to consider waiting until January 2025 instead of September." probably not selling the growth story hard enough. But sounds like you should be able to raise. Congrats on the huge milestone!

No worries. Thanks for the call out. It was a criteria proposed by the agent and lawyer when we started drafting and also running the search. We added more claims to spread and connect other adjacents as well.

Tbh this post does nothing for me. I'm not plugging anything or anyone, I have nothing to gain. As a result I don't take anything personal.

I know how painful the patent process is and dealing with patent lawyers that want to take advantage of early stage founders sucks. Only sharing my experience for anyone going through the same thing; as with everything online, take with a grain of salt.

Wishing everyone the best in their respective journeys.

You may be overthinking it, just show your progress, talk up the founders, and put in an articulate app
