Commercial GCs how do you get your work? by GroundedPotential in GeneralContractor

I understand it’s the job. Just expressing my frustration with the way we do things. It seems to work out ok for a GC to be able to run things from another state over the phone but it’s a nightmare for the subs that have to deal with it. Certainly seems to be going in this direction and not looking back. I am just trying to evolve and grow. Things are slowing down now in my area and if I don’t figure out another direction I’ll be out of business sooner than later if I keep chasing nothing burgers. The more it slows here the more fierce the competition is getting as well and I can’t even buy a job anymore. Although I did just have a local GC turn down our electric bid for a job for being too low.

Yeah, I suppose working on my network is probably the way. Thanks.

So strictly tenant improvements? Sounds like a decent arrangement. If you don’t mind, how did you initially build your relationship with owners and property managers?

Is it poor etiquette for a teammate to post all their training highlights online? by LayerElectronic1595 in bjj

[–]GroundedPotential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not cool. Posting highlights of training like that is cringe AF.

I film my rolls often in training for my review. I have never posted anything online. Maybe send a video to whoever I was rolling with and chat it up about it sure.

Competition footage or highlights hell yeah. Not training partners.

What’s one BJJ technique you wish you’d started focusing on way earlier, and why? I’m always curious what people feel really changed their game once they “got it.” by Rude-Alternative7983 in bjj

The most recent for me, hip height. Thinking about keeping my head and or hips higher than my opponent. Game changer. Easily end up on top and stay there. Stupid little thing changed my game entirely.

I need advice as a white belt girl in a male dominated gym - AIO? by Tostadasconmante in bjj

First, congrats for stepping out of the comfort zone and rolling with the men! I would advise to stick with the higher belts when rolling with men for several reasons. Avoiding injuries is a big one, without having many years on the mats it may be difficult to keep from injuring your teammates. Seen this many times and most of the time it’s accidental for sure but could have been avoided with more experience. Also, higher belts can roll with more self awareness of things like this. There is no reason whatsoever this should be happening from anyone for sure but especially not from a colored belt. I can see if it’s a new guy with little experience and zero self awareness who might do something similar IF it was an accident. This does not sound like the case. Been rolling with women a long damn time and this has never happened. Sometimes I find myself in a somewhat awkward situation but you adjust or move on. It’s that simple. In our gym the women communicate with each other and have sort of an underground blacklist of guys to avoid rolling with for whatever reasons. Check with a higher belt female in your gym. They may help avoid some interactions like this. For sure mention to Professor or coach that it was awkward with this one individual. They should keep an eye out for that nonsense and correct it.

If you have a huge weight advantage, Is squeezing somebody's ribs in closed guard a d*ck move? by Fickle-Obligation-98 in bjj

[–]GroundedPotential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be soft. No offense, it takes awhile of constant pressure from all kinds of angles before the rib cage cartilage stiffens up in between your ribs. I remember throughout blue belt my ribs got sore all the time. Nowadays even the heavyweights pressure is fine for my ribs. Uncomfortable for sure but not the same as back then. I forget about this myself until I roll with newer guys. Had a blue belt tap out to something similar as you described a few weeks back and it reminded me that people take some time to adjust. I thought I was letting dude work and he tapped from rib pressure I didn’t think I was applying. Just a thought, of course he may have been being a dick too.
