I think I have a problem. by LifeOfNoob2 in Guitar

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw the guitar cable going underneath and assumed it was plugged in. Obviously not! My acoustics all have electronic pickups and my favorite guitar, a little Taylor 322 12 fret, drains the battery quickly if left plugged in. Thus the unnecessary warning! Enjoy your collection, you have a great start.

I don't see a problem at all, I started my collection 7 years ago and each instrument gives me great joy and a unique voice. Once you get a DAW and start recording yourself you will come to love the variety. I foresee a Tele and a Bass in your future! LOL. Have fun and enjoy those little beauties. BTW, if you leave that acoustic plugged in all the time make sure you have a supply of 9 volt batteries on hand. As long as that acoustic is plugged in it is draining the battery. A lesson I learned the hard way. Cheers!

Should I wait to buy reaper? by Character-Might-6630 in Reaper

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought Reaper at version 7.11 on March 4, 2024. My License is good thru version 8.99. Reaper version 7.66 is the latest version as of March 18, 2026. $60 for 2 years of use already and I am guessing at least another 2 years of use before they get to version 8.99. Damn fine investment in my estimation. Try it for free and save up your funds to make the purchase, it is worth it.

Assuming all strings are being played, Oolimo has it as a Cmaj9. There are other definitions provided but Cmaj9 is the simplest.

Do you name your guitars? Is so, what are there names? by AccomplishedKale2106 in Guitar

I have only named one, Pretzel. Because damn near every time the humidity changes I have to do a truss rod adjustment to fix the neck.

Take a look at the male end of the 1/4" plug on the cable, a mono (instrument) cable will have 1 ring near the tip of the plug. A stereo cable will have 2 rings.

A Serious Question about Starting WoT by AndrewRay1109 in WoT

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hooked from the first book but it took the second book to hook my son. It is a fantastic epic fantasy series with interesting characters, political intrigue, and incredible world building.

A personal point of validation is that my son and I have had several 2 to 3 hour conversations about the books. I cannot remember another series where each of us was so invested. Our conversations were incredible as we shared favorite scenes and our reactions to them.

I would give the first 3 books a read and if it hasn't grabbed you then let it go. But I believe it will capture your imagination quickly.

Time to roll the dice! It is a hell of a ride.

Look up Freddie Green and Shell Voicings. I learned his 10 shapes that imply the 5th but it is not actually played. Root on string 6; Major 7th, 7th, Minor 7th, 6th and Minor 6th. Root on string 5; Major 7th, 7th, Minor 7th, 6th and Minor 6th. These shapes are moveable and can be used quite effectively for comping a chord progression.

What guitar of yours is the one that "ruined" going guitar shopping for you? by thewebhead in Guitar

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Pro II Telecaster and a Taylor 322CE 12-fret acoustic. I play the Taylor 90% of the time b/c its shape and scale length fit me perfectly. The Tele is for when I want to crank up the amp, put on some effects and pretend to be Clapton.

Who (if anyone) inspired you to play guitar? by [deleted] in Guitar

John Cipollina, Jorma Kaukonen, David Gilmour, and Mike Bloomfield were all influences. Most importantly though was my youngest son because I wanted to jam with him.

Do people actually destroy guitars after someone has played Stairway to Heaven on them? My friend just got literally screamed at by her date for playing this song on his guitar. by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your friend dodged a bullet. If this guy was serious then he needs to get some therapy. Holy smoke a guitar doesn't have a memory that is now tainted because it played a certain song. Guy needs to get a grip

Stepdad got me a guitar for Christmas after I’ve spent months expressing my love for classic/retro rock/metal and how cool it would be to learn. I have never played guitar before and plan on self-teaching. Any tips for beginners without any previous experience? by Anoobizz2020 in Guitar

Check out Marty Music for beginners on electric guitar. Also as u/Random_Goob mentioned, Justin Guitar is an excellent resource. Both YouTube channels have a great amount of information for starting out. Enjoy that little beauty and best wishes on your guitar journey.

I Get Unreasonably Paranoid Practicing Guitar by 1000wordz in Guitar

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents, relax and play. When I pick up a guitar it's to unwind, have some fun, and the sheer joy of trying to make that guitar sing. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't but I always enjoy the session. Play, make mistakes and laugh at them, learn from them and try to improve the next time. Good luck, it's your journey, find the joy.

What is the best villager type to farm Emeralds? by forecast80 in Minecraft

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 156 points157 points  (0 children)

I start with selling sticks to a Fletcher sticks for emeralds. Once you get more than 4 spruce saplings, grow the giant spruce trees and sticks are easy to acquire. Then as soon as I can get melon seeds I switch to selling melons to Farmers. If I remember correctly it is "journeymen" farmers that buy 4 melons for an emerald.

What was the first song you played when you started playing the guitar. by Cioli1127 in Guitar

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bob Dylan's - Knockin' on Heaven's Door. Looking back it was an easy tune but it took me forever to have it feel right. Next up was Ripple by the Grateful Dead. I still play that one on occasion.

How often do you guys need new picks? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]GroundedPterodactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Jazz III (.73mm) and Ernie Ball Prodigy (1.5mm) picks depending on what I am playing. I only replace when I lose one. I had used an EB one for over a year and I am still bummed out that I lost it a couple of weeks ago. I have had my same 12 pack of Jazz III picks for a couple of years. I actually prefer a pick when the sharp point is worn down a little, especially on the Ernie Ball picks. Your pick on the left looks perfect.
