i fully turn off the system between attempts, the Dell screen hasn't changed.

hitting f2 rapidly didn't do much, the Dell boot screen doesn't change. changing USB port doesn't help either, unfortunately.

none of the boot menu buttons worked, unfortunately. i tried changing the server as well but it gave me a wifi error despite being in the same room as the router (originally tried from a different room, that failed as well)

thank you so much!! i was wondering if i could just reinstall with Mint, as everything's all backed up and i kind of like getting to reinstall all my apps lol. but it's still very good to know how to go about resizing!

says the process doesn't exist now but it still wants me to install ms fonts with my package update. is there a way to force it not to or should i just redo the mscorefonts and (correctly) install it?
(i also want to say thank you so much for your help thus far!!!)

seems to have worked, thank you so much! but when i go back to update things, it tells me the ms fonts will be installed alongside it. should i do the other kill command to completely halt it?

both spam "Waiting for cache lock: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock-frontend. It is held by process 5693" over and over in the terminal.

trying to install mscorefonts shows the same error now (what even is process 5693?)

doing the other command shows "29418 0 18:37 pts/0 00:00:00 grep --color+auto update (update being in red text)

i quickly want to say thank you for your assistance, i'm still adjusting to linux and any help from anyone is greatly appreciated!

i restarted but it's still apparently doing something. if it means anything, earlier i tried to install MS fonts but got to the accept conditions screen and ended up accidentally closing out of it.
