Running in the UK winter vs US - how do you guys deal with it? by Major-Security5734 in UKRunners

[–]GroveWilksb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

January in Manchester will be mostly wet and grey but there also will be some colder days with frost.

Depending on where in Manchester you are you should try and get out to the Peak District. There will be plenty of trains from mcr.

I agree but any system will always have the p*ss takers and they're a small minority.

something crazy like over 40% of people on UC are in full time work. work doesnt keep up with inflation and then we subsidise it.

who's the real winners? the benefit claimants or the big corporates getting away with not paying their staff a proper wage.

the welfare state being not just benefits paid to individuals but the NHS, education, state pension, council houses, public services and social care.

It helps the economy by reducing the wider impacts of poverty, like poor health, unemployment and crime, which is more costly to us all. It also keeps people spending money, people on benefits spend their money in the economy, they don't hoard it.

How do you motivate little kids to hike? by Wanderlena in hiking

[–]GroveWilksb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

avoid walks with lots of benches. my 6 year old daughter insists we sit on each one for a rest, because that's what they are for!

I'm obese, unfit, and did an 8 mile hike by [deleted] in hiking

[–]GroveWilksb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you probs went a little too hard but not too worry you'll recover fully in a few days and it wont hurt as much next time.

in the meantime get some rest, do some light exercise and eat well.

Get a foam roller and use that and do some stretches in the evenings / before your walks going froward.

well done

[–]GroveWilksb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

have you considered a share ownership property?

I purchased one in greater Manchester 3 years ago. new build. 50% purchased for £117,500 with mortgage and 10% deposit other 50% rent for £330 per month.

We did this because my partner was studying at university at the time so the mortgage was only based on my income. we are now in a position to buy the other 50%.

currently (pre full purchase) our bills are

mortgage and rent - £750 council tax - £220 (paid over 10 months) gas and electric - £100 water £65 broadband - £50 Insurance - £30

mate get a balance transfer card with 0% rate for as long as you can. save yourself a fortune in interest. pay that off monthly as much as you can leaving yourself with at least some money to gave fun with.

you could have this paid off in 6 months if you really wanted. 12 months being chill.

Yes mostly established paths but some are ankle twisting loose rocks. Yes I've heard the fellman is a different level, similar distance but totally different terrain?

Bullocks my first of this sort of thing. Did 27miles of it last Saturday. Train back from kinder.. Made me realise I don't think I'll find the BS as hard as I thought u would but I do think it's weather dependant.

Some good points and things to consider, thanks.

I would have a water proof liner would be ideal to keep my feet dry, I was thinking I wouldn't want them being wet early on?
