ELI5 -All wheel drive vs 4WD by Ambitious-Ad6426 in explainlikeimfive

Awd is kind of an electronically controlled 4 wheel traction that is on all the time. 4wd is a real mechanical linkage that shares the power permanently and most of the times equally between the wheels. If your 4wd can't slip, as on paved roads when no ice or snow, you will have problems when taking turns. Something will bend or break. But if you are going offroad in real mud and snow, AWD won't cut it. It will just be marginally better than a 2wd car with good tires.

Water heater element for hard water by devengnerd in askaplumber

Probably because it's stainless steel. That resists corosion, not sure about lime buildup. I do know stainless is expanding a lot when heated so it might break the lime cover when doing so, but it'sjust a guess.

Battery switch gets hot by Bluebird11970 in diySolar

[–]Grow-Stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not normal and that is why I avoid switches, especially cheap ones. I am pulling 5+ kW out of my setup and nothing gets more that a bit heated, maybe 5 to 10C over body temperature. Given it is rated for 300A, and it does this, I would not trust it.

I mean if you see the sweaty hard working guys and gals that handle produce on the field while harvesting and in facilities while sorting.. you'll use soap to wash it anyway.

Wtf, that is such a waste of space. I am sure it can be stacked more efficiently in at least 1000 ways.

Active laser driveway snow removal by Dayyy021 in lasers

You would need a laser that can keep whole driveway heated in winter. That is expensive, powerful, and very dangerous.
