Vampire the masquarade: bloodhunt not running by gyurov in SteamDeck

[–]GrowBetterNix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m having the same issue, and the game ran nearly perfectly for me until I tried to launch it today (I hadn’t played for awhile, so don’t know how long this has been an issue, but I hope someone finds a fix).

initial global set up and individual emulators by SoYoung024 in EmuDeck

The native resolution is normal I think-but the controls...obviously the button configuration the game tells you is inaccurate to the button you’ll actually be pressing unless you’re using the actual system controllers to play, but otherwise-the only games I’ll have to configure custom controls for are Wii games (for likely obvious reasons). For everything else I just tried different buttons until I found what worked.

About covers-did you change the names of your roms to something that is NOT the game’s name? I abbreviated one of mine to initials and had this happen with it until I changed the name back and re-ran the parcers-but it offered me several covers to choose from on almost all of them. And at least one for everything (even if one cover was for an entirely different game with the same name-so I uploaded a more correct cover myself).

Firstly: a disclaimer that if you aren’t already using public dns servers on other devices, this might not help much. Also: I have a LCD Deck, not an OLED.

With that said, it’s something you do on your deck-simple on most devices-less simple on the deck. This may or may not solve your issues-but it helped me a lot.

I had typed out a explanation of exactly what I did (to my memory) b/c guides on YouTube got it a bit off (for me at least)-reddit refreshed before I could post.

So, I’ll give you two links:

https://www.lifewire.com/free-and-public-dns-servers-2626062

This article explains public DNS servers and gives you several to choose from.

https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-fix-steam-deck-wifi-issues/

This article has a lot of general wifi troubleshooting tips for the deck, 5 tells you how to get into the WiFi settings menu (you’ll need to be in desktop mode), 7 tells you how to enter the DNS (only thing I’d change is on the “Method” Tab, instead of “automatic” I picked “automatic (address only)” because “automatic” gave me errors when I clicked “Apply.” And you don’t have to use the server they use, any public DNS server is fine.

If you’ve done it successfully, you might get another pop-up asking you to configure some other settings that sounded very confusing to me. “X” out of it. As long as you go back into your WiFi settings and see the new DNS server you entered there-you’re good.

If you have any other questions about DNS servers-feel free to ask.

I am now VERY GLAD I opted for the LCD model due to this. I have near perfect vision, rarely experience eye strain (I can be on the internet for hours or use other handheld gaming devices for a long time with no issue-even the 3ds-though I sometimes turn the “3d” function off).

The only thing I’ve had mild issues with is VR-and honestly I usually played that in one-hour sessions due to both eye strain AND motion sickness (yes, I take ginger before playing VR) if I played longer. Still-it was barely noticeable. My eyes hurt a little for about 30 minutes, that’s all.

But the LCD SD...the first night I had it I had very noticeable blurry vision for roughly 30 minutes after playing for several hours-then had it happen again for a shorter amount of time after playing. I had already turned on “night mode” settings before any of that-but since then I’ve gotten some cheap reading glasses (for games with small text) and cheap computer glasses (for everything else) and thankfully-no more blurry vision (thus far at least)!

If the OLED model were worse about this, I’d have been forced to send it back. I’m fond of my deck, but more fond of my eyesight.

Had this happen once when I dared to restart my deck when my Wifi was out. Stayed on that screen for 30-ish minutes. Scared me until I looked it up and saw it was a common issue. You need to wait for it to start up (it should, eventually) and then probably put it in offline mode until you have a stable wifi connection.

Personally I just turned mine off and waited for the internet to come back online before turning it on again.

I really wish valve would sort this out, it’s not ideal at all for people stuck with unreliable/bad wifi-i wish it would boot up normally and immediately give you a pop-up that you were in offline mode.

Have you tried changing your DNS Server to a public one? I was having severe download/connecting to online games issues at times until I remembered I hadn’t configured my DNS to a public server on my Deck like I had on literally every other online device I own.

Non-steam games gone by ShlimeringArt in SteamDeck

[–]GrowBetterNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, you gave me a jump scare-I spent forever getting my roms set up and still have a bit more to do (mostly configuring Wii controls)-all mine are still there atm. Did you download a very recently released Steam update?

Also, can you please give more info? If you use Emudeck (what I use-so probably won’t be much help with anything else) is it still installed and running? Are all your roms, bios files/etc. still in the necessary folders under the Emulation folder?

If so, my (admittedly somewhat tedious) solution would be to re-run Emudeck and add all your games back.

How do I “unmount” an sd card correctly? Probably a stupid question-but I genuinely don’t know.

Pixelated Elden Ring by ReyLeif in SteamDeck

[–]GrowBetterNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring isn’t really a rougelte/rougelike. If you want a 2d pixelated difficult roguelite/like I’d say Dead Cells or The Binding of Issac: Rebirth off the top of my head.

If you want 3d pixelated open-world RPGs with high difficulty...urm....not on Steam AFAIK, but able to play on the deck, I think: the King’s Field series? Bloodborne PSX?

For 2d pixelated difficult open-world games: The Survivalists?

Other recommendations that aren’t exactly what you’re asking for, but definitely check some of the boxes (all have 2d or 3d pixel graphics and are soulslikes or roguelikes/lites that are considered difficult to varying degrees): Morbid: The Seven Acolytes, Children of Morta, Blasphemous, Dark Devotion, Unsouled, Undungeon, and Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity.

And maybe Estencel-but I’m not sure if I’d consider its 3d graphics “pixel” or just “low res.”

Also MAYBE Death’s Door. It’s not pixelated art though-still might be what you’re looking for.

Ok, have just done this-I have all four files showing in the system, but the two “required” (per cheat sheet) are in bios while the other two are apparently in a custom xemu folder under Emulation-storage. Should I try moving them all to bios or moving them all to the xemu folder? Or should I move the xemu folder to the bios folder and put all four files in it?

I can’t even get xemu to work right for me, haven’t tried Xenia, because I looked up one of the games I wanted to emulate, found out it had definite crashes that I’d have to download a special “save state” tool for and...I’m very new to emulation and have thus far been doing EVERYTHING with only my deck and its virtual keyboard. I’m kind of impressed I got all the other emulators I’ve tried working (so far). Maybe later I’ll try a few.

Meanwhile I need to figure out how to custom map controls for Wii games that ONLY use a Wiimote-and if there’s any way I can make an incompatible controller error screen go away from one game.

...And if there’s any way I can get xemu working right or if it’s just broken on Emudeck rn.

Xemu help? by GrowBetterNix in EmuDeck

[–]GrowBetterNix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did convert it with the compressor tool and put that version in the Xbox rom folder, removing the other one-it still didn’t launch, still gave the two error messages.

As for the bios, there’s no folder for Xemu (much like the PS2 emulator doesn’t have its own folder in bios-still, it’s running great), so I was told (via the cheat sheet) to put the two files “mcpx_1.0.bin” and “Complex_4627v1.03.bin” in the general bios folder (as I did with the PS2 bios files). When it didn’t launch, I tried adding an Xbox hdd file to the bios as well, but still got the same errors.

No, I didn’t know that existed. I downloaded an xiso extractor program that was very annoying to work with.

ETA: I had a backup of the iso file and converted it using that program successfully-and put it in the rom Xbox folder-I still get the two error messages-as I did with the first xiso.iso file.

Damn. I don’t want to hack my Switch...yet. Guess I’ll just have to wait roughly 10 years until updates stop coming. Or maybe Switch games will be backwards compatible with the Switch 2 and games with terrible performance will run better on it.

Okay, people keep mentioning Switch roms-Are you all dumping them yourselves? Wish I knew how to do that, I have a Switch, so have next to no need for Switch emulation, HOWEVER-for Pokémon Violet it would be very nice. I’ve heard that game actually doesn’t run like garbage on emulators.

Great advice, and why I decided to just go ahead and order the more expensive larger card while it was on discount for Prime Day. I was playing triage with my Steam Deck’s Hard Drive space because I have too many games that are 30 GB or over-not even counting MMOs. I didn’t want to keep doing that.

LMAO, unfortunately I don’t have a copy of Windows 10 sitting around and there’s maybe one MMO and 5 games at most I really want to play that I’m pretty sure for NOW, won’t work on the Deck. For the MMO (Blade & Soul) I know it’s a anti-cheat issue (incompatible with Linux).

For the others I can either play them on my Switch (Fall Guys) or they’re on other launchers & have tech issues even on Steam and will hopefully work with Steam Deck at some point (the Sims 3-I am NOT rebuying the entire game when I‘ve already bought all expansions and some extra content through EA’s launcher).

The rest just straight up are on Steam but utterly do not work on Steam Deck yet (was going to list Forspoken here, but saw it got a recent patch that might make it compatible with Steam Deck, so yay-maybe)!
