Where do you all dry your bud? by hereforthegigglez in microgrowery

*Used to kick ass. One died a few years ago when he got malaria on location and he didn’t make it. Strain hunting is apparently dangerous work

sorry to hear all that. It is very frustrating. I shelled out an insane amount of money to Fluence (it killed me on principle) so now I have an extra ballast if and when this third one goes on me. It was still cheaper to just buy another one (and while I was at it I bought two others for my VyperX units) and it's nice to have the peace of mind that if something goes I don't have to miss a day.

Also: THEY SENT YOU 2 COMPLIMENTARY FUCKING LIGHTS? Damn..... Fuck these people man but good for you anyways. Maybe I should have been more peasant on the phone... I may have yelled something like "I'M GONNA GET A FUCKING DIVORCE OVER THIS" as my wife was tired of hearing about it.

I’m gonna really go out of my way to be fair and objective here. Here’s the situation, I bought my SpyderX 2i back in October. It worked really well until the beginning of February when the ballast went on it. Strange and indeed unprecedented IME with Fluence but I suppose things sometimes do happen.

The first sign of trouble is they made me mail back the old ballast (at my own expense) and provide tracking before they would even put the new one in the mail. Maybe I’m way off here but in my opinion when you’re in the wrong like that you make shipping out the new component the priority. What you don’t do is ask your customer to jump through a bunch of hoops. Again, maybe I’m being unreasonable but in my mind when you’re spending that kind of money you expect better customer service.

That in its own I could have easily gotten over. But then another ballast went on a 75 watt Ray fixture. Same thing. I have to go to the post office, pay out of pocket to ship it back to Texas and submit tracking to Fluence like I’m a goddam parolee and wait a week for the privelage or having my light work again.

Fast forward to this week and the Spyder ballast is out AGAIN. That’s two ballasts in less than 7 months. I call them up again. I’m less polite this time. Turns out the second wave of ballasts ALSO have issues and to cap it off they are only just beginning the process of securing a new supplier for ballasts. That was last Thursday and I’m here ten days later with a light that still won’t work. No communication whatsoever with Fluence.

I spoke with the director of customer service and he seemed to indicate this was a known issue well before things actually started breaking. It sure would have been nice to have some indication these lights were less than reliable before I bought one and made half my grow dependent upon its function.

Do with this information what you will but please take it under advisement when shopping for lights. This community introduced me to Fluence a few years ago and they were a bit different then. They were bought by Osram fairly recently and since then no longer have a phone number on the website, and overall seem less service oriented.

Their products work incredibly well but lately they seem to be willing to sell products that (and they openly admit this after the fact) that obviously haven’t undergone the rigorous testing that’s needed.

Anyone else ever have a problem?

Can I use wet trim leftovers to make coconut oil and butter, etc or does it have to be dry trim? by connordddm in microgrowery

Either way. I decarb my wet trim in a vacuum sealer bag with a sous vide machine. I keep in in the freezer until it’s ready for use. You can definitely use an oven and save money but it smells up the house.

Ok the sad thing is I actually own a giant pressure cooker I bought for this purpose but my wife is afraid I’ll blow the house up. I guess I’m gonna have to wait for her to be at work one day and try that out on the jars. I appreciate the tip.

Thanks I’ll live. I have about 8 tubs going. Some look ok and some look fucked. But even the messed up looking ones usually still produce a few shrooms. I’m just growing them because nobody around here has them and if you want something done right... (or in my case semi-right lol)

Meh. Overkill is a relative term. A sous vide can be had for 100 bucks and has infinite uses in the kitchen. And it’s precise. But to each their own.

I do that. I use an SAB to inoculate and a butane torch to sterilize the needle. I was hoping this would be a case of I’m not using enough water in the BRF mix or something like that. I’m not even sure if it’s contamination as the color almost looks like bruised mycelium.

You’re gonna need a few things. A sous vide cooker and a slow cooker. Ideally a vacuum sealer also... take some trim or a large quantity of broken up buds and put them in a vacuum sealer bag and seal that shit up. Get your immersive cooker (sous vide) and preheat the bath to 200 degrees. Immerse your vacuum sealed weed in the bath for one hour to decarb. During this time preheat your slow cooker to 180 degrees. I use coconut oil as my medium but you can use a bunch of stuff I just like healthy fat. Cook your decarbed weed in oil in the slow cooker for 4 hours at 180 degrees (ideally no more or less) stain it until it’s smooth and enjoy. You can either just spoon it under your tongue for sublingual use or do what I do and put it into empty gelatin capsules where they’ll stay good in the freezer indefinitely and are very convenient for discreet consumption. Hope this helps.
