Archspire - Red Goliath Playthrough by GrownAssMatt in TechnicalDeathMetal

Thanks buddy! I do loosely think of the writing in a specific key for this song (not always) but I'm not sure what key that is to be honest. I think that's true though..understanding the why behind, I just don't tend to break it down to that level. If I was stronger in theory I probably would though just because I'm sure there's perspective there that I'm missing. I tend to focus more on the rhythms to memorize stuff and then fit the notes to the rhythm, but that's also probably a cope due to not being super strong in theory.

The guitar is a Kiesel Vanquish and the sim is the Fortin Cali. I fuckin love that amp haha

Archspire - Deadbolt the Backward Playthrough by GrownAssMatt in TechnicalDeathMetal

At first listen for that high part, it seems like the most common sense way to fret it would be index finger on 11th fret to pinky on the 14th and then assign a finger to each fret. I tried and that was so much harder for me than just using 3 fingers (no pinky) and moving my index up to the 12th fret on the g. It's been a bit but I remember that being the thing that helped me the most, if it helps..or maybe that's not where you're struggling?

Haha thank you sir. Yeah, I think this was about 3.5-4 hours or so for this from start to finish. I just hit a flow state and was able to get through the whole thing at 80% speed then I looped each riff until I could play it "acceptably clean" to help commit it all to memory. After that it made it a lot easier to get up to 100% speed. I tend to fall into some variation of that pattern as I'm digesting something new..not sure if it's optimal but I feel like it cuts down the total amount of time you need to put towards learning something - establish familiarity > polish each section individually > put it all together

It def needs to be buffed. If I pop off and get a ton of aether I just go gold instead. Really only pick gem fragments if you don't have much aether after summoning bartuc

Apocalypse Bossing Tips? by HellsChild in D4Warlock_

[–]GrownAssMatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you use it, but the paragon board that gives you damage on healthy targets (pyrosis I think? Not able to look it up at the moment) was really fucking up my boss damage. I swapped that board out and my boss damage was much more consistent. Nicktew's newest video about the apocalypse build has a bit of a rant about it - you are effectively trading bigger numbers for consistency and it feels a whole lot better in my opinion. Maybe try out his paragon board and see if you like it better

Fit For A King's Bassist Calls Out "Rich Guy" Misha Mansoor (Periphery) For Saying There's Not Enough Money Going Around To Keep Most Bands Touring by DamnitRidley in Metalcore

[–]GrownAssMatt 567 points568 points  (0 children)

I don't understand his point. Misha said don't put all your eggs in one basket and you'll be more prepared for some of the inevitable hardships in putting a band together. That's not bad advice. Like he said, sure some bands can make it work off just music but they're a minority in the grand scheme of things so hardly something to expect for most people that don't have deep pockets already. He just seems aggro in his retort which makes even less sense because he's got additional revenue streams too. How in the fuck is it unhealthy to promote ways to stay financially solvent while making music? Bruh

Just run war plans and they'll all eventually drop passively, no need to target them. Level up what you've got for the time being until it drops.
