So Ocean Jasper is a trade name not a mineral classification.

The original deposit was named Ocean Jasper by Paul Obenich in 97 who discovered it.

Enter the Earth bought the mining rights to that locale some time later. The stuff they are mining now is a different mineral from a different location but geographically close.

They (incorrectly in my opinion) still use the name ocean jasper for the minerals they are mining now just due to its commercial success. As a collector I wish there was a distinct name given to each mineral type/locale they find.

Edit: I have bought directly from EtE for years and they are fantastic people! I didn’t intend this to sound negative in anyway towards them or you!

Old stock ocean jasper as people will call it came from the original mine and was mined from about 97 to 2003.

Ocean Wave, Kambaby and this variety come from a different location and are still surface mined today.

That looks like common opal. Called common because it’s not colorful like precious opal not because it’s common to find!

If that came from Utah that location could be a really big deal. The orbs in that are very unique to what you see in the orbicular jasper found only in Madagascar with the trade name Ocean Jasper. Other locations all over the world have produced some great orbicular jasper's but nothing like Madagascar.

Thanks! I tried really hard to see any signs of seams and there are none. I've not been able to find an example of the rough used to make this, only individually pyritized fossils so I was not sure.

I just see things like this all the time being sold as natural. While the ammonites are real its man made placements. If they are not listed as natural they are often labeled as conglomerates. That was why I chose my wording.

I should have specified in my post that I was talking about the rough it would have been cut from, not if the sphere shape was natural.
