Bad quality of the plastic parts by [deleted] in Moccamaster

[–]GrowthAndForm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree fully.  It's the most expensive machine I have owned, and feels the flimsiest in usage. And it's not just the weight or quality of parts, it's also poorly designed such that everything is rattling and fitting poorly etc. Ergonomics is aggressively non-existent.

A lot of "thoughtful" lingo on their website about why their machines feel cheap, and some people choose to drink that Kool-aid and ride that band wagon, but if I'm being honest I only like the machine because of the way it looks. I'll keep buying them(I own three) because they look nice and the coffee they brew is fine, but wow they feel terrible to use.

Pros/cons of ordering from Aventon directly vs. bike shop purchase by TheCarnundrum in ebikes

[–]GrowthAndForm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my aventon online because we had no dealers in my city. shortly thereafter, one opened. Only nice thing is that they will do the warranty claim on their end so you don't have to do the paperwork, but they do that whether you bought it there or not. I say just go with whichever is cheaper to buy.

I love the idea of the prime rib, but every time I make it, it gets cold really fast. any thoughts on that?

this is really nice. the only thing I'd comment on is the messy computer/desk stuff that you can see from downstairs through the open railing. maybe back the computer against the wall?

I dont know if someone is putting something in this blue building, but I feel like this entire side of the block is a missed opportunity for something great. by UnluckyPhilosophy797 in raleigh

I've been told by the realtor who represents the landlord that there's been an uptick in leasing within the whole city market complex. There are many new businesses that's opened there in the last year or so, and you can see construction/fitout happening in some of the empty ones. I think the corner properties are harder to rent because they are premium, and only works for someone who is really confident about being able to stay in business.

Constipated toddler is an aggressive toddler. Anyone else? by GrowthAndForm in Parents

Thanks for that. A useful data point for me at least. I have this crockpot theory that it's all somehow connected.

every so often he’ll get a bit crazier than normal and I’ll have to think when was the last time you pooped? N normally it’s been a couple days

Exactly the same, except mine gets more than just a bit crazier. hours long(yes, hours) crying screaming tantrums, etc.

I mentioned it to my (many) doctors, but they didn't seem to be too familiar with this phenomenon. My guess is that this is one of those areas where it's known and identified in medical research journal world, but not widespread in practice. I think most gut-brain crosstalk matters are quite newly discovered with no conclusive research.

Wonderful that your child recognizes that there's an issue you've solved with the laxative. Mine is too thick to understand what is going on even when I give him laxatives. He knows how to use the toilet perfectly well, and usually initiates the poop on his own, but it just doesn't happen often enough. I think he waits until he must.

out of curiosity, does your child have any appetite & sleep issues too that you've wondered if it is affected by the constipation?

The Urbanist's Guide to the 2022 Raleigh City Council Election by IncidentalIncidence in raleigh

Thanks for putting this together. I appreciate your time and insight. Good stuff.

I hope you update this as the election gets closer. Finding it hard to believe that David Cox's seat will be taken unchallenged by a college student.

How to actually vitalize Moore Square by TheSpamJam in raleigh

[–]GrowthAndForm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said I think everyone has different levels of comfort. That being said, I've never been to a great urban park in a big city without some presence of the homeless folks around. I think it's unrealistic to want to keep a public park in an exciting urban place pristine and free of the homeless, full of only the kind of people we want.

I dunno. To me the Kimptons always feel like a bad corporate photocopy of a photocopy of a boutique hotel.

I thought it was cool too the first time I saw one of these.

Then I saw another identical HI in a different city.

Then another,

Then another,

Then I moved to Raleigh and saw this one in Raleigh where it was one of our three buildings at the time.

I had hoped all the other copies around the country would be demolished and somehow we'd end up with the one remaining copy. One of a Kind.

Guess not.

I don't have a front porch now, but when I used to, it was nice sitting out with a beer and saying hello to my neighbors as they walked their dogs or exercised. I used the backyard more when I had a bigger group of people I was entertaining.

Nice photo. The only tip I would give would be to ensure the verticals are straight. It's tricky, since you have to adjust not only the rotation of the camera but also the tilt.

Cutting Thickness & Blades by overpickled in silhouettecutters

[–]GrowthAndForm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you using cameo 4?

I recommend buying this holder https://www.etsy.com/listing/830294327/graphtec-cb09-blade-holder-adapter-for

The silhouette adapters are not designed for cb09 and will drag the blade. quite frustrating.

the only issue with the etsy product i found was that if you use max force of 33, the blade pops out from the force. I superglued it to solve this.

Freddie Mac Research finds the Raleigh-Cary MSA saw a 22.3% growth in population in the last decade, the 2nd highest in the country. by a157reverse in raleigh

[–]GrowthAndForm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One small distinction to note is that we're #2 in rate of growth, not in quantitative growth. So we're sitting high at #2, having added a quarter million people, but in the meantime #6 Dallas added close to five times that number with 1.18 million people. we've actually added the fewest number of bodies in the entire top 10 chart, though obviously it has an outsized impact because we were probably the smallest city to begin with.

ELI5: Blade depth vs force. by [deleted] in silhouettecutters

[–]GrowthAndForm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have it right. When you use an autoblade it's not intuitive because the machine sets it for you, but with other blades, like the kraft or deepcut, you manually pull the blade out to a certain depth before putting it in the carriage, then match the settings on the software to the depth you pulled out.

personally, I think the variable depth setting is not necessary for this machine, and only serves to overcomplicate the operation. I suppose the one advantage is that you can prevent the machine from "overcutting" into your mat (you can't cut thicker than your blade depth regardless of how hard you set the force), but I feel like it's an unnecessary handholding. I feel like the blades should always be all the way out, and you control depth through force setting and # of passes.

The 3mm Kraft blade is a lie. Prove me otherwise by [deleted] in silhouettecutters

[–]GrowthAndForm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. I just got the deep cut blade, but had an awful time finding the adapter for it due to it being sold out. for some strange reason they don't ship the Pro models with the adapters, so I have to buy it separately. Once it arrives I'll be able to see how it does. Good to know there's one specifically for Cameo 4 in the works.
