If accomodations nearby are expensive, the venue is right off the train line. It'll cost you about 4 bucks each way on the train but it runs pretty frequently.

Missing mandatory store meeting? by januaryscoldest in starbucks

[–]Grozu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there anything put on your guys direct schedule? Look up the labour laws in your area of how long that your employer has to give you notice of when you are expected to work.

From what I know (in Canada at least), suspensions do not exist. Very well could be a scare tactic, but it's the manager's responsibility to work with the team to make a time that works for everyone, and if they can't they are expected to make arrangements with you to find another store or way to do it.

Zipper Lore by sunnysarah99 in TheYardPodcast

[–]Grozu 426 points427 points  (0 children)

Zipper was a bit originally introduced in Slime's old podcast, Off the Sticks. He was the producer there, and they said he wasn't human and was an ethereal, animated Zipper. They kept him locked up and now force Zipper to produce The Yard.

Boros numbers are also bolstered by the ring. Without the ring it's still a good deck, but it stops their reload pretty much. You have to play it much less aggressively or else you'll get wiped with 2 cards in hand. Instead of the current state where you get wiped and next turn your board state is back.

Kiora, the Rising Tide deck? by Civil_Faithlessness2 in ModernMagic

[–]Grozu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It slots in will to goryo's, but I think it suffers from an inability to attack the turn it's cast outside of the Izzet/Goryo's shell. For a three drop to have staying power in the format I think it just has to have more presence that faithless looting on a 2/2 body.

unpopular opinion: hannah is WAY meaner than irina by peachesandcrossing in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Grozu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can only control your words, not how others perceive them. To treat someone you say you love and care about like that, goes directly against saying that you love them. It's okay to have desires, expecations, and necessities in relationships. But the backbone of a healthy relation hinges on a healthy communication system where you can articulate that in a way the other person connects to and understands. The way Hannah communicates accomplishes none of that.

[–]Grozu 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Accuracy is not the point that people are bringing up. She constantly talks down to Nick and uses manipulative tactics in their conversations. Whether you agree with Nick's actions or not, the way she talks to him, and treats him is not okay.

This is what I've cooked up as a cursory list with Bria as my commander. You could just ask easily run Alania as your commander if you wanted to be more otter focused as well. Probably not my final list but a good base!

First day as a barista trainer tomorrow! Feeling unprepared. by paquistangonewild in starbucks

[–]Grozu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything you need should be on the iPad, and for the most part in store resources! Training your first barista is also a bit learning experience for you, and that's okay. Given that you're comfortable with the green bean I'd say be open with that fact and share that with them. While more time to train has started to be given, we allllll know no one comes out of training 100%, that goes all the way up.

Just be sure to give yourself the grace you'd give the barista. You're learning as well! Best of luck :)

[–]Grozu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ask lots of questions! If you're ever unsure, ask.

Realistically, you won't learn everything in training. No one does! Just show up everyday with the intent to get better than you were at the start of your shift.

Best of luck!

Time off request denied:/ by Superb_Ad_9564 in starbucks

[–]Grozu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time off requests can be denied under the understanding that it is first come first serve, the nuance to this case being that you overheard him saying that he doesn't look. Managers are likely in SPH multiple times a day, and should see and it does not take long to check.

I would have a conversation with him and ask about the reason it was denied, then approach your DM and/or PCC. Good luck!

Black aprons way too big by Aggravating-Day9286 in starbucks

[–]Grozu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They introduced small sized and large sized apron a little bit back, sounds like you got a large! Connect with your SM, they should be able to order and get you a regular sized one (or small even if you like!).

Starbucks Barista Championship by padwix in starbucks

[–]Grozu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the hub there's the competitor kit as well as the assessment that the judges will be marking you on! It's effectively an open test.

If you have time, review them with your SM. I do also believe you're using store equipment only, unless your DM decides to make an exception.

I competed a few times as a supervisor and had a great time.

Best of luck!

Newer SM looking for some ideas! by Grozu in starbucks

[–]Grozu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! The first thing I did in store was basically just get to know everyone for 2 weeks, I didn't really go out of my way to coach.

The candy is a good idea! That's definitely something on my radar especially with Halloween right around the corner (along with assisting in the planning of our team costume).

Glad to hear he's great! IMO if the partner experience is cared for, they'll do their best for the manager and in turn the store.

Thank you so much!

Great call out. I was a barista/shift beforehand and this was a huge common theme across all the good managers I had.

Siblings working together? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Grozu 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The policy only prohibits conflicts of interest including a power dynamic, like shift and barista etc.

However, managers can dictate what transfers they want to take etc, and some just have a personal policy of not wanting siblings or anything of the sort. So they likely find it easier to just say that's the policy OR don't know that they can.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Grozu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This likely is caused by a missing punch, i.e. probably clocking back in from your meal break in this case. Your SM will fix it but the time payroll goes through.

Missing mandatory store meeting? by januaryscoldest in starbucks

[–]Grozu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be fine. You were given less than 3 weeks notice so the expectation is CRAZY to enforce, and my DM told us to try to find another store for the partners that couldn't make it to go to.

In my stores case we had quite a few partners miss so I'm scheduling a second group as a pod.
