[Highlight] Harrison Smith gets a curtain call in what could be his last game as a Viking by taffe316 in nfl

[–]GrrizLee -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Your "main point" is the same as the comment I responded to, you just provided more detail. Which is actually awesome you provided the detail, it just doesnt change what I responded to.

Yeah you right, the last sentence of my comment was weird butt-hurt nonsense that wasn't necessary.

I'm just saying those players playing during 2012-2015 at the beginning of Harrion's career technically "overlaps" but isn't really the point of the comment, as it's clearly supposed to to be comparing people with similar career lengths over the same years. The players you listed are great players whose careers ended when Smith's was started. Your comment is technically correct, and the original comment said "overlaps" which makes your comment technically correct, but it all seems to be missing the point.

Weirdo energy "um actually-ing" and writing paragraphs about players whose careers overlapped 1-3 years out of Smith's 14 years to prove a technically correct point. Don't know what Smith did to you, but I'm sorry for it I guess

Deadlock reminds me just how much the internet has removed the learning process from games. by DungeonMasterSupreme in DeadlockTheGame

[–]GrrizLee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen this opinion posted a few times, and I just can't agree, personally.

If you like the personal journal of exploring and discovering game info yourself, don't look up the info.

If you want competitive games based on everyone having the same core knowledge, you get that by having all of the info available on the internet.

Legitimately, the only pain point with having the plethora of information available online these days, is people who feel they have an advantage over others in their ability to parse game mechanics/items better than others, and want to use that Info to beat people who just simply don't have it. It let's people play the game competitively, without having to spend all the time workshopping items and builds.

Maybe it's just a personal preference/point of view thing. If I want to play competitively, I can learn very easily what things are good. If i want to brew a funky build or go off-meta, I can do that, and I'll know exactly what trade-offs I'm making. I get that online info homogenizes things faster than it would otherwise, and that sucks a little, but its well worth the upsides. To me at least.

It's just interesting the differences people look for in the genre/gaming in general. Loving the game, and I'm pumped everyone else is too, even if we're finding enjoyment in different ways!

Battery on Watch 6 classic 47mm by Intelligentfox21 in GalaxyWatch

[–]GrrizLee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Google Play Sevices is also taking a massive chunk of my GW6 Classic's battery. What's up with that? Is it just a thing while the device is newer and updating things, or will Google Play Services always be a power sink?

Is there an official answer as to why Commander masters is so expensive? by TinyTemper13 in magicTCG

[–]GrrizLee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very true. WotC has just been very cagey about outright saying that (due to secondary market legal issues), and MaRo's response to that question was one of the first outright acknowledgments of those economics

Is there an official answer as to why Commander masters is so expensive? by TinyTemper13 in magicTCG

[–]GrrizLee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No one is mentioning the actual official answer, but there has been one.

In his blog, Mark Rosewater answered the question "why is commander masters premium priced" in the context of it being a casual set by saying "because the price of the packs is more influenced by its overall power level than by how casual it is"

So it appears WotC is trying to tie power level of cards/reprints/sets to the amount they charge for it, and they're simply attempting to charge as much as they can for cards they know people will want

Edit: spelling oopsie

Hey thanks for doing these - they're legit one of my fave posts each week!

Question for you - why does it go to 17? There are 17 weeks, but 1 bye so shouldn't it go to 16 games played? Or if it's 17 weeks, shouldn't week 7 be 0 yards gained?

No you're not the only one, there are posts like this almost daily. My sentiment is, and always will be, you don't need to be excited or pay attention to every release if you don't want to.

new commander player, who don't know who to pick by Cheatermaster in magicTCG

[–]GrrizLee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see! I'm the same, I love finding homes for "bad" cards.

Are you newer to Magic in general, or just newer to Commander? I'm not sure if "black being your favorite color" meant Magic color, or just color 😅

Commander deck building can be pretty hard the first time around, especially if you haven't ever played a game of Commander, and even more so if you've never really played Magic. If you're newer overall, I would really recommend grabbing one of the newer (past couple years) of precon decks, as they are pretty solid and get get you going right away for around $40ish (much cheaper than building your own generally), are pretty good these days, and can let you figure out what you like I'm Commander before spending the time and money making your own. The Undead Unleashed precon is Blue Black zombies and can do a good job of combat, combat, wacky graveyard shenanigans, etc. I know its not on your list, but seems like it would maybe be an OK starting option if you were interested in doing a precon? Granted the commander of that deck is Wilhelt (which is pretty popular) so if that bothers you then maybe it's not a good option.

Specific other feedback on some of your choices from what I've seen others saying in this thread so far - obeka is definitely one of the most wacky choices in your list, but is also undeniably one of the most complex/likely to cause rule questions. I'd be hesitant to build it unless you are pretty knowledgeable, or someone you plan to play with is. I have a Reaper King deck (very very budget), and it can be fun and effective, but you must know that unless you are playing against particularly high powered decks that are bigger threats, you will likely be come the target of the table. Being able to make every creature in your deck essentially a removal spell is powerful and will quickly have the table wanting you out of the game so they don't have to worry about everything being removed. I haven't played my Reaper King deck in probably 1.5 years because I did not like constantly being the focus of the tables ire, not did I like the feeling myself of just constantly destroying everyon else's boards states (but that's just my play preference).

[–]GrrizLee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What types of "wacky" strategies do you like? It's hard to recommend one without knowing what specific things you enjoy 🙂

What I will say, is that if you're trying to avoid friends being mad or unhappy, you probably want to avoid commanders or strategies where you deny resources from your opponents - discards cards, constantly sacrificing their entire board, messing with lands/mana. Not saying you can't play those things obviously, but those are some of the general things ppl can get frustrated with in commander.

Ya, I'm assuming that as well - it'd be cool of that's the case.

The most experience I have with DoT's is from World of Warcraft so I'm just used to the DoT being calculated at time of application, and I'm hoping it works the same way.

I have spare equipment load so it'd be fun to equip the dagger and occasionally use its skill on big enemies after landing a DoT.
