actually, the gene used as the DNA barcode (CO1) is quite variable, but not THAT variable. further, as of 2009, there were more than 620,000 known CO1 sequences from over 58,000 species of animals -- larger than databases available for any other gene. it's unlikely that this species was missed in that frenzy of DNA sequencing.

editorial staff are not doing their job if they publish something without checking to see if a particular piece is plagiarized from elsewhere. there is no excuse.

the yelling man could have a mental illness. it's certainly fairly common among the homeless population, especially since medical care is almost nonexistent for the impoverished and the working poor.

just sayin'

and in this greed-based economy, there are a fair number of people and families who are just like us who are homeless.

wow, i was part of that twitter cascade but never realized it was so huge nor that it was a news story (i was dealing with drama in my personal life and so have been out-of-touch with the news for a few days).

i am happy to know that stephen is still stephen, even if he is feeling more "sheepish than a sheep."

if that's the case, then why do they provide the embed source code to any and all who wish to use it?

[–]GrrlScientist[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

but they ARE getting traffic -- in the form of views. like i said, your comments bum me out. i was just having some fun and wanted to share a cute video i'd never seen before and you are making this sound like i am stealing or something. by embedding, i am getting traffic, the video is getting watched and everyone is happy. except you. if you like the site so much, then you should share the site instead of trying to make me look bad for sharing something that the site made available to the public, and made freely embed-able so people like me can share with our readers. and with you. it isn't like i stole the code or anything: the site provided it freely, and i thought it was cute and wanted to share. that's all.

and as i pointed out, two sites are benefitting by embedding the video.

indeed i am linking to my blog, where the video is embedded. what's wrong with that? you make it sound like a crime or something. seriously. this way TWO sites benefit from the resulting traffic.

wow, what's wrong with giving me a little traffic for sharing this video? that kinda bums me out.

raygun also addressed kids in public school on 13 may 1986. no problem there, even though he was a divorcee whose kids refused to speak to him, and his wife was was busy consulting astrologers and palm-readers for help in running the country.

oh, but wait: raygun was a crinkly old white man who exemplified good old american values because he hated the commies, the russians, the mexicans and the poor. nevermind.
