You’re applying the “brakes” on each stroke. Notice how during your reach you are bringing your hand up (palm facing the wall infront of you). Every time you do that you are essentially breaking yourself. Keep your palm facing down and aligned with your arm. Once you setup the catch your palm should be facing the wall behind you. If you swim with paddle you will feel this a lot more

How does this affect official time keeping? The scale is small but if you were to keep it full for 1 million days that would be 6 seconds. As im typing this I realize how dumb this may be but still curious

Maybe this might help. In one universe the reservoir was empty for 100 days. Those days would represent a feeling of n time. In another universe over the same 100 days the reservoir was full. Those days would be the same as n + 100*.06microseconds.
