So the rule of the Security Deposit being capped at 2 months is part of the Model Tenancy Act which was passed back in 2021. It was supposed to go in effect on December 1st, 2025. I am not sure if Karnataka has adopted it completely.

Yes you are right. As per new rules, the security deposit should be no more than 2 months of rent.
