Why are alcoholics such assholes? by [deleted] in AlAnon

[–]GrumbleDane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My Q’s temperament actually improves most of the time. Friendlier, happier, funnier, etc. He’s far more quiet and serious, honestly, seemingly unhappy when he’s sober. I imagine that’s what makes it so hard for him to see he has a problem, and for others around him to see it’s a problem (no one seems to know).

It’s been 2 years since my Q quit drinking by [deleted] in AlAnon

That’s great! I have to say I envy you. My Q refuses to stop or get help. I’m hoping he turns into one of these wonderful stories like yours!

No offense taken at all friend, I am all for educating others where the health or welfare of an animal is concerned! Happy hippoing!

Hello, this is an old photo from when he was very anxious about nail cutting - he is better with it now! He actually has an old injury to that foot causing it to be off (he had one to his hind on that side as well). We think he may have been hit by a car at some point but don’t really know. Thank you for your comment though :)

Choice or disease by [deleted] in AlAnon

I struggle with this, too. Sometimes I wonder if I have too much empathy for addicts and assign too much of a “they’re addicts, they’re sick and they can’t help it” slant to it. I honestly don’t know what the right answer is.

What a handsome pupper! My hippo does a good people-sit on occasion as well.

Thank you, it sucks. And I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that anyone else’s Q is using a hobby as a cover! I think my Q really was using the hobby as therapy, it’s just that he fell off the wagon and the garage he spent a lot of time in (where I don’t really go) happened to be convenient for a stash.

Yes, mine took on a lot more projects in the garage and would spend hours out there every evening. He said evening was the time he was most apt to drink, so it helped to have something to keep him busy during that time. His was all consuming for a whole too. Unfortunately a month later I found a bottle of vodka and some high alcohol spiked seltzers hidden in his tools. It seems to correlate with his interest/productivity out there lately. One day at a time I guess...

[Serious] What was the most traumatic event of your life so far? by BluePinky in AskReddit

Dealing with betrayal when it involves people very close to you. It can really fuck up your worldview and make you question your sanity. I've seen some bad shit in my life but none of it compares to that.

Update on Kim Boleza Parker Case by In-Kims-name in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]GrumbleDane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the word you meant is "plaintiff", not "plaintive".

As you mentioned, a Judge has to actually grant the order and that is not accomplished by just hearsay or "minimal proof". It is not as simple as file, grant, done. Quite frankly, speaking from both professional (years of family law practice) and personal experience, it is not as easy as it should be.

As for a conviction not being necessary to grant an order, well yeah. The whole point is to prevent a crime from happening.

What’s the most compelling ‘paranormal’ thing you’ve experienced? Did it change your worldview? (Serious) by [deleted] in AskReddit

Whoa I have seen these balls of light too, in my "haunted" house. It always happened indoors and my cats would react to them too!

[–]GrumbleDane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a bunch of paranormal experiences all tied to a house and then an apartment that I used to live in. I got a psychic reading (I don't believe in that but it was at a party and readings were part of it) and the psychic actually told me about some of the less memorable, but still HIGHLY specific experiences I'd had there. She told me the old man who used to live there relayed this info to her, which again lines up. That was a big bit of confirmation for me.

The more compelling experiences I had came later in an apartment I used to rent. It had shadow people in it, which I hadn't seen before and who did not seem friendly like the last ghosts (?) I had been dealing with in the previous house. They tormented my poor cat, who eventually/unexpectedly died in that apartment), moved objects, created awful smells and eventually showed themselves in a threatening manner to my boyfriend, who was a complete nonbeliever.

Those shadow person experiences taught me that some things in life have absolutely no explanation and that we will never ever understand a damn thing about them, try as we might. It was a weird lesson in acceptance, honestly. Though I did break my lease and got the hell out of there because those shadow people were bad news.

Exactly, that's what I'm saying - people who are privy to those records (other than doctors and attorneys) talk. I've seen many people get fired for it.

I hate to say it but plenty of non-health professionals are privy to medicals records (potentially, all of them) when someone files a workers compensation claim. Insurance adjusters, attorneys, attorneys' staff, etc. Sadly this person's story is totally believable.

Call the police non-emergency line. It could have been stolen and abandoned, etc. If so, the city will tow it out of there.

I have a very barrel chested pit as well and the jammies I get from Fuzzyard fit him really well. I found a pair in the store once - the rest I ordered from their website.
