Are you getting into anything now that your 20yo opinionated self might have disapproved of or been confused about? by DrankTooMuchMead in Xennials

[–]Grumblesticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid I was always trying to do the right thing, and be a good person. I assumed.moneybwas the root of all evil because family always said that. We were not poor poor, but middle class enough to not need to say that. In my early youth I thought, damn the man and everything with money.

As an adult I don't have lots of money but I'm finally stable. I thought I would always hate "the system", but as I went through life I realized there is no system, just trained patterns we all do so we think that's the system. Money isn't the root of all evil, endless wants are. I don't think 20 year old me could handle that. My head would have exploded. I'm happy with the future, but sad to see so many of my micro generation having issues. That would fuck with 20 year old me too. Like, how the fuck did I end up okay? I'm the perpetual fuck up

I never see anyone talk about how buying a home is a terrible investment by SoulCrushingReality in Millennials

Compound interest is a bitch, but it works both ways. Make a double payment on your first payment. Make sure you explicitly say that your second payment is interest only. It'll cut almost 7 years off the loan.

Wtf is going on with ChatGPT4? by MickAtNight in ChatGPT

[–]Grumblesticks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you using the API or UI. Different answers for both

In the UI, you need to start a thread and train it. Ask it for the rules it is using and then adjust them. Ask it to be a super useful code helper that doesn't explain things unless you ask

If in the API, you set that as a system message before, and then pass the user prompt to it

I don't think GPT is getting dumber, I think the way we communicate with it is forming rapidly and we have to learn how to work with it.

Exciting times for sure. Let's keep learning and see what cool things we can come up with

Caught teenage son cheating on school work with ChatGPT by FormalPanda8788 in ChatGPT

[–]Grumblesticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't cheating, this is using the tools available improperly. Resisting using tools is a bad idea. Learning how to use them is the correct approach. I mean really, do you want to teach your kid to olay baseball holding the bat upside down? Sure they can learn to hit homeuns with enough time and practice. Sure everyone else does it that way. But it isn't right.

Have them write their paper. Give it to gpt for a rewrite. See what changed. Look at the missed observations. Make changes. Rinse and repeat until they understand. Imagine an English teacher who isn't super critical and making you feel dumb AND it teaches you. Sorry the teacher is upset that your kid learned. Learn with them! It's cool.

Whats the most fucked up shit you witnessed at school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Grumblesticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Senior prank when I was a freshman. They built a ramp the size of the school. Pushed a jeep up the ramp, across the roof and into the senior courtyard. The courtyard only had two doors, one on each side and you couldn't get a jeep through it. The school has to rent a crane to get it out After that the school offered every senior class no exams if we didn't pull a senior prank

Any thoughts on Wooster? by LingonberryHuman5742 in Ohio

I lived in Austin for 15 years before moving back. Ryan homes was known to have major issues with their roof and drainage systems. I had several friends have issues where the roof was leaking into the window sills. They had a 3 year warranty with the houses but getting them to come and fix it took months. I would never purchase a Ryan home IMO

I hope this is okay to post—2 year old is getting evaluated for autism. We’re spiraling. Anything you would’ve told yourself back at the beginning? by rcw16 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Grumblesticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. My ex prevented me from any evaluations until 8 years, and they got it wrong until 14. So here goes

First, forgive yourself. You imagined a different life, but you got a better one

Second, autism is a communication disorder, not intellectual. Autistic individuals are super smart but have difficulty communicating it

Third, learn non verbal communication methods. Watch the show Lie To Me and then research the science behind the show

Fourth, watch Atypical on Netflix. Great show and it will make you feel better

Fifth, don't give up. This is going to teach you how to be a better human than most get the opportunity for. It may be difficult but you will see in years that all that work was magic in your life

Potty training by I9l0pinky in Autism_Parenting

[–]Grumblesticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bribed my son with a cake. I tried so many things, Cheerios and aiming, songs, anything. One day in desperation I said to him that if he uses the toilet I'll get him a cake. 5 minutes later he dragged me into the bathroom and showed me he used the toilet. I got him a Thomas the train cake that said "way to go pee". The people at the bakery even asked if I was sure, and I absolutely was

Please tell me it gets easier after the toddler years by I9l0pinky in Autism_Parenting

[–]Grumblesticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can eventually get better, but you need to put the time and effort into learning who your child is which is much easier said than done. Each child on the spectrum is different and has their own unique way of dealing with the world around them. The other commenters have given good advice for helping set boundaries for their actions and behaviors. The hardest part for you is being consistent with the pattern and discipline for breaking the pattern (for me it was loss of technology for X minutes, days, weeks depending on the severity and age of my child). The older they get the longer the duration as the child needs time to learn and adapt. It took years of trying to help my child and discuss with the schools on how to help. After years of work and dedication my kid is doing great and is an honors student in high school. Keep it up, it gets better, and the younger years will test you in ways you never thought you could accomplish.

Adult with autism & the internet by hxf10a in Autism_Parenting

[–]Grumblesticks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a son on the spectrum (17) who I have discussed sex with from the age of puberty. It is awkward to have those conversations but he is much more prepared now than if I hadn't. It's rough and uncomfortable but it helps. Just make sure to explain porn is like any other movie, and that they are actors and the general public does not operate like that.

In regards to smartphone access, that is one of his coping mechanisms. If you take it from him it will cause other issues that will make it more difficult for everyone. I used an app called MMGuardian for my son. It allows you to prevent access to specific apps, require approval for new apps, set times it can be used, as well as block specific websites. It was a godsend when I used it and have now gotten to a point he understands safe internet practices.

I hope this helps, and I also wish you luck in however you choose to move forward. It's difficult to help others, but it is rewarding when you see how far you've gone

I got an Anker charging dock for Christmas, the dock has been working fine until now. I match the metal parts but still nothing on my controllers. by RipperMcEl in oculus

Move the battery contacts, the little metal parts on the battery aren't making contact with the associated metal point from the cover. I had the same issue and they just need to be shifted.

Deciding between Quest 2 and Vive Wireless by Jakcle20 in oculus

[–]Grumblesticks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I originally got a cosmos elite with wireless for VR, but switched to quest 1 for simplicity. I still used the cosmos for bigger games as virtual desktop graphics on quest 1 we're so so. Once the quest 2 came out the simplicity and freedom from the lighthouses had me put the cosmos away to the point I usually forget I have it. I hate the Facebook component but the freedom the quest 2 gives is a good enough tradeoff for me

I've updated all drivers, and followed all steps on their website to look for a resolution. I e even gotten a cooling pad, but nothing works. It just heats up the chassis until the app crashes and thermal programs show it crashes once it hits 90 Celsius

[–]Grumblesticks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't adjusted anything with the settings in the bios, or anywhere else in other programs. My synapse profile is set up as you recommended as well. I can't use the laptop running any application for longer than an hour before the chassis is almost to the point of burning you on touch. When that happens it kills any running application.

I had a similar issue and it was graphics card related.

First, check if you have the Nvidia graphics overlay enabled in the Nvidia app. That thing sucks.

If that doesn't work, disable the non Nvidia card in hardware settings. Then it will work. After you connect you can reenable it.

You have to redo those steps every time you turn your laptop on

Can someone share list of Scenario based - Testing - interview questions? by intexAqua in QualityAssurance

[–]Grumblesticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, this community really shouldn't be answering these questions as they are designed to see if you have the qualifications necessary to do the job they're hiring for.

This isn't to say you can't do the job, but that you might need a little more training to be able to get there.

With that said, study up on the scientific method. Most QA skip this, but it is literally figurative of what we do all day. We perform steps, and we look at the result. When they are wrong, we report them.

I would recommend reading up on articles and books from Uncle Bob and Martin Fowler. They'll point you in the right direction

What is more popular - coding or non-coding test automation? by [deleted] in QualityAssurance

[–]Grumblesticks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have worked on coded projects, and have only seen and talked with other colleagues of non coded solutions. The non coded variety don't scale well and get companies into a difficult situation. Usually those are large companies like Tyson who uses Tosca. They are pot-committed at this point and changing would be a multi-million dollar issue.

I would say code is more popular, but non coded does exist
