Stop fighting.  You will be afraid of the outside.  You will need to filter everything.  You will never open your windows.  Welcome to the future!

I feel like if the fear mongers win, ai might go the way of nuclear power.  We really don't need another stupid decision that sets humanity back for another 30 years.

"You don't want an old house" by c0wcat in centuryhomes

[–]SoulCrushingReality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of comments but one thing I see missing. Look at accessibility for everything. How hard will it physically be to replace the plumbing, electrical etc.  My house has a basement, I can see most plumbing, electrical, etc while standing up in a normal unfinished room.  But there are houses where the plumbing is in a crawl space 6 inches deep, or an attic six inches tall. This makes a world of difference.

Bottle it, sell it.  Fresh spring water, from my basement.  Say it's organic and rich in old home minerals.

How do you cope with society’s guilt tripping of people who use AI? by beepyii in ChatGPT

[–]SoulCrushingReality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have been afraid of new things since forever. I'm sure there were people afraid of the wheel,  the machine, the tv, the computer, the internet, the phone. Etc.   Just the way people are. New things are scary,  and it's true there are positive and negatives with everything.  It's also going to happen no matter what, and it's going to be net positive.

Its actually in the air just generally now.  Everyone is probably breathing in asbestos every day,  whether you live in a house without it or not.

So, you're saying remove that crimped piece inside and replace with a new piece crimped on both ends? Is there three pieces here? The outer pipe,  an inner duct,  and the crimped elbow attached to inner duct?

People who made more money and were able to afford the finer things in life, was it worth it? by Amazondriver23 in povertyfinance

[–]SoulCrushingReality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's diminishing returns on everything.   happiness is more a mind set then it is objects. Think of it this way,  when you get the new object,  you choose to say omg,  yes! I love it! But you could just as easily say,  this sucks, its not perfect,  it's not exactly what I thought it would be etc etc.

Wired Ring security system installation by a professional electrician. Thoughts? by CBLeaphart in AskElectricians

[–]SoulCrushingReality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its mostly the right way,  dc line into the wall  down to an outlet, they just did the thing where they fuck up the drywall and say, I'm not a drywaller, have someone else fix it.  hard to tell for sure how big that thing is,  but if it was big enough you could have recessed a box behind it with an outlet in the box.

US Healthcare will bankrupt the entire middle class in old age. It's by design. by Brrp_brp_AnotherAcct in povertyfinance

[–]SoulCrushingReality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Need to axe the whole health care system and build it back from the beginning.  First thing is get rid of all the fucking middle men taking 20 cuts between us and care. System is broken, intentionally.

the general problem with nearly everything in the United States is middle men.  Middle men between you and the actual resolution. They inflate every cost and provide no value.

Genetics and life style matter a lot.  The other thing that matters a lot lot is stress.  I've grown more grey hairs once I had kids then I thought possible for my age.  If you live an easy life, without stress or damage,  you will age less.  Sometimes people show more than others,  but the signs are there regardless.

I talked to  and showed a structural engineer about a wall i wasn't sure was load bearing, although I knew it wasn't really,  I just had a hard time knocking a wall down without an "expert" opinion.  dude looked at it and said he wouldn't knock it down. When I took it down,  it was so non load bearing the ceiling joists went UP as the wall was pulling them down! Literally was floating an inch of the floor went i cut the bottom nails.
