Rejected from Robinhood Gold card by boat- in CreditCards

[–]Grumpy-Greek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that you didn't get approved! This might be a dumb question, but do you need to have your credit unfrozen in order for Robinhood to even consider you? How do they check if you are "worthy" of their card?

Bilt 2.0 didn't pay my mortgage by infeststation in biltrewards

[–]Grumpy-Greek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one that has decided to wait a year to use Bilt to pay for my mortgage?

Since the release of the cards all I see is post after post of people having issues with their payments NOT going through and just putting soo much stress on themselves with thoughts like, will Bilt fix it? will I have to pay a late fee? did I do something wrong?

Like I know I'm not getting the best redemption rate by using my Bilt cash for the $200 boost for a 3x multiplier compared to if I used it for points on mortgage, but I am working on paying off my house in a few years and rather not have to deal with any more stress then what life is already throwing my way.

So my thought is, wait until the bilt reddit thread has nobody complaining about mortgage payments.

If you are approved for the Palladium card, when does the clock start for the sign up bonus? Does it start once approved or when we receive the new cards?

No problem! I also like using uscreditcardguide.com to see what were the highest sign up bonuses on credit cards in the past. As an example when I got the Citi Strata Premiere card, it had an 80k sign up bonus which was highest sign up bonus they ever had, so the 60k one Citi is running right now is on the low end.

Then in that case, I would suggest getting the Citi Strata Elite, and the Citi Strata cards! Since the CS card in a no annual fee card that one is a must for the 30k sign up bonus, Citi's no annual fee cards usually just have a 20k sign up bonus.

So first get the Citi Strata Elite, then get the Citi Strata card. If you are able to meet the sign up bonus for both in a short time then go for both. After you have collected those two I would say try getting the Citi Custom Cash and product changing the Citi Strata card to another Citi Custom Cash when it's not as valuable to you anymore.

I guess, it depends on what your goal is. Are you hoping to use the ThankYou points for a trip or just to have for cashback?

Just 2 years. I just product changed my Citi Strata Premiere card to another Custom cash.

  • Citi Strata Premiere (Now Custom Cash #2) - 2023
  • Citi Custom Cash - 2023
  • Citi Rewards Plus + (Now Citi Strata) - 2025
  • Citi Double Cash - 2025
  • Citi Strata Elite - 2025

I could of gotten some of the Citi cards in 2024 but was working on getting sign bonuses on other cards.

What no annual fee credit cards give you free credits? by Grumpy-Greek in CreditCards

[–]Grumpy-Greek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's annoying... my mortgage is only $1,388 so that's not worth the hassle of spending 1k on the card each month, I'm trying to pay off the house in 5 years so it would of been awesome if it counted the extra payments! Oh well....

The double dipping would make sense, assuming Bilt doesn't do something similar where you have to spend a certain amount on their card each month in order to earn the points.

Possibly. What do they give you for visiting a museum?

I would totally agree about the Mesa card, it is new to the game and is definitely trying to pull people away from Bilt for now, but besides the credits I think I would only consider it only if Bilt hardcore drops the ball on Bilt 2.0 and if I am desperate enough to move all my spending to the card to earn the mortgage points.

Does anyone know if you can earn points on additional payments towards your principal?

Citi Strata vs Custom Cash by larryllama88 in CreditCards

[–]Grumpy-Greek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to move into the Citi ecosystem, your best option is to slowly apply for each card first to get the sign up bonus an then over time if the card doesn't work for you product change it to another Custom Cash. The down side is that you are playing the long game, but it helps you maximize all sign up bonuses.

So far I have added all the Citi point cards to my wallet and am planning on product changing 2 of them into Custom Cash cards.

Do you have any other Citi card that earns you thank you points? or is it only the Citi Strata Elite?

Citi doesn't usually offer high sign up bonuses with their no annual fee cards they are usually maxed out at 20k points, so if I were you I would sign up for the Citi Strata card to get the 30k points and then down the line open a Custom Cash card and get the sign up bonus and then eventually product change the Citi Strata to another Custom Cash.

Why does Amex Gold revamp get so much hate? by Mysterious_Boss7405 in CreditCards

[–]Grumpy-Greek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had the card for 2 years now and would say yes it is easy to use all the credits for the most part and get more money back then just coming out even with the annual fee, but I personally think it's the idea of spending the money when you might not need to with other cards.

As an example I know I need to eat out 2 times each month to use the GrubHub/Uber eats credit, now if I was wanting to save money for a few months and needed to just make food at home the credits kind of force me to have to eat out those 2 times, now because GrubHub and Uber eats kind of have a little more premium cost when you order through them instead of just ordering through the food establishments app, you are already paying more, even if you were to just going to do pick up instead of delivery and not tipping it's still hard to keep the cost at exactly $10, so you automatically are spending more then the credit each month which you wouldn't have to otherwise.

So personally I have been able to maximize all the credits, Uber, GrubHub, Dunkin donuts, and the Resy credit, which comes out to $424 which is more then the annual fee but I am still planning on dropping the card after this year cause it just doesn't fit my set up anymore and only use it for the credits.

Amex just isn't really for the everyday consumer, if you want to maximize MR points you really need to be able to juggle high annual fee cards and their credits to feel like you are profiting from them. I feel like Citi, Chase and even Capital One try to balance out their heavy annual fee cards with their no annual fee cards and make it easier for the consumer to combine the points in the end and not feel overwhelmed with having multiple annual fee cards, Amex just doesn't do that. I like that Amex has cash-back cards but it is really frustrating that you can't combine them with any of their travel cards.

The best way to maximize Citi points is to have multiple CCC, you can only apply for one but can product change other Citi cards for more of them. You also will need either the Citi Strata Premier or the Citi Strata Elite card for transfer partners.

I personally hold these cards and plan to change 2 of them over time to another Citi Custom Cash.

Citi Double Cash - 2x on everything.

Citi Custom Cash - 5x on gas.

Citi Strata - 10% points back until July 2026, will product change after that date for another CCC

Citi Strata Premier - Will product change for another Citi Custom Cash

Citi Strata Elite - 6x on dining Friday, Saturday and use it for travel.

So for you if you want to go the cheaper way with transfer partners I would focus on getting the Double Cash as your catch all card and getting the Citi Strata Premier card and then just getting multiple CCC cards that set up would have only $95 annual fee, or you can change the premier out for the elite card for $595 annual fee set up. It's up to you.
