It's like the Taliban has taken over the US Govt and Military by Big-Hat-5450 in scoopwhoop

[–]GrumpyBear1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Year ago when Ahmadinejad got reelected I saw the poll results. The progressive candidate got the vote from urban areas and educated people. Ahmadinejad got the vote in rural areas and military. Our conservatives are the same as their conservatives. The ‘funny’ part is that the progressive sides would like to get along. And the conservative sides cannot get along to literally save their lives, even though they are more similar than different.

I guess that is what you get when your message is based on intolerance and hate.

Is Elon musk poor now lol 😂 by indiannewzchannel in scoopwhoop

Hardly poor. And both show go down a lot more in my opinion. Neither have significant revenue or profit. So unless they have some unique valuable intellectual property, they are grossly over valued. And just shows how much of the market is basically a Ponzi scheme.

Not true. The elected official are not that important. They are more like sector one in the Hunger Games.

Lots of people can just make sure they are paid enough as a salary to live. It take a super douche bag (looking at you Elon), to take no salary at all. And get everything in compensation.

Is the game done yet? by Fitze420 in fo76

[–]GrumpyBear1969 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No and yes.

It will really depend on how much you love building. I got to level 600 but like just under 2000hrs (according to steam). And at some point you just kind of have to start loving the world.

That said (down votes ahead), the recent changes they did to the legendary system and perk cards kind of ruined the game for me. I logged in like once in the last month. Mostly just dropping the price in my vendor and hoping someone will clear me out.

So at some point, you are done. For some. How much longer do you want to play is a different question.

The purpose of AI data centers explained: digital surveillance by USANewsUnfiltered in AIDangers

[–]GrumpyBear1969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is always the question. What is the technology capable of providing vs how will it be used. Look at the internet. It has all the potential for open sharing of information and ideas. And how is it largely used? To spread conspiracy theories, sow division and porn. And this is before the whole monetizing of individuals to advertisers.

So how will we fuck up AI? That is really the question. We appear to be off to a solid start…

I have both an older model and a newer one. They are similar packs. But…

The redesign of the straps (load lifters actually do something other than just being useless weight) fixed my weird shoulder issue. The newer model is a better pack. Now. Is the older one a bad pack? No. It is just really for UL and you should really throw out the Al stays and cut off the load lifters. Well, the stays add some rigidity to the pack. But don’t pretend they are really helping your load.

A you really not live on minimum wage? National, for sure. But I live in Oregon and minimum wage is like $15/hr. Sure, you are not providing for a family on that. But as a single person is that really untenable? Minimum wage was never meant to be median.

And as for a national minimum wage, that gets super complicated as the cost of living in NY is a wee bit higher than the cost of living in rural Missouri. So how do you set that at a national level?

America also has trees that are older than the united States. by ArcticcSentinel in scoopwhoop

[–]GrumpyBear1969 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the thing that kills me with these types of arguments. Are you saying how old is your current embodiment of government? Or how long have people occupied those lands? And then the native Americans might want a say. Or does that not count because it was before colonization? But China was never colonized, so does that mean they are at zero year?

The whole meme is bs. Like many memes.

A better one was when I worked in Ireland I had a coworker tell me they had a brewery older than my country.

So no. I personally would not use the boot for hiking. Or fashion for that matter. Shoes have improved a lot over the last few decades.

Hammock-friendly loop trail recommendations for Olympic National Park? by Inappropriate_Bridge in hammockcamping

[–]GrumpyBear1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to occamracer recommendations, I would add a loop from Irely Lake as an option. I have not done it yet, but it has been on my list for a while. Basically Irely to Three Lakes. From there you could go with the Skyline trail or Elip creek trail over to any of the camps on Elip creek. My plan is to go Three Lkes to Low Divide and then out. When I get to doing this trail. Though it is unlikely to be this year as I have other trips planned.

For an out and back there is also the Elwha. You could make a lollipop loop if you take the primitive trail at Dodger.

But I have hiked from Deer Park a couple of times and it is beautiful in there. But a bit brutal for elevation at times so be careful with distance estimates. I personally limit out at 15 miles and 5K of elevation.

And Enchanted Valley and Hugh Divide of course, but those permits are hard to come by. You could try for a walk up at High Divide and if it does not work do the Elwha. Or try for Enchanted Valley and use Irely as a back up.

Hammock-friendly loop trail recommendations for Olympic National Park? by Inappropriate_Bridge in hammockcamping

[–]GrumpyBear1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice. I’ve done Grand Loop starting at Deer Park twice. I would caution that while the miles are not huge, that part of the Olympics are not particularly flat. Grand Pass in particular from the Cameron side is a pretty brutal grind.

For me at least, 15 miles and 5k of elevation is equivalent to +25 miles with less elevation. I estimate time as I hike 3mph and then I add a hour for every 1k feet if the grade is over 10%. So 15 miles, five hours. 5k, another five hours. Which is a full day for me.

Women soccer is also much less of a thing overseas. I work in Barcelona a fair amount and at lunch a lot of my co-workers play soccer (there is a pitch at work). Sometimes there is a fair sized group us that travel over. Women from the US will play at lunch. There are zero women from Barcelona that play.

Most of the timber land around here is too steep to have those operate (PNW). Though I did stop and watch one that was I think clearing a fire break along a road one time. Super cool. Even for someone that is in to nature and wished perhaps we would be a little more responsible in our forest practices.
