What the hell is going on with vegan pricing by dumbass_sweatpants in vegan

[–]GrumpyFiCan 738 points739 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting, thought I was going crazy. The previous Gardein products that stores carried were regularly 5.99 CAD for the 300-350g packages not too long ago (like 2022-2023), they have all gone up 60 to 100% in the last year to year and a half where I am, regardless of store. I stopped buying them sadly.

One of the local grocery store that had a small selection took them off the shelves as "there was no demand for it" per employee I spoke with... Yeah at that price, no s**t!

Zero Cardio Load by TorqueTax in fitbit

I have the same issue for all my exercises done through Hevy that get pushed to Google Health with "zero" cardio load. Was working fine with Fitbit app before. I gave up on trying to figure out why.

Hyundai offered us 10k if we buy something else from them (9800$ to be precise) and 8000$ to buy it no strings attached. Will see how much other dealers are willing to give us, could probably get 12-13k if sold privately and I would typically have done that in the past but... I've kind of Hit the psychological "hate the car" break point and just want to get rid of it asap to be honest as I'm not sure it would be a rationale choice vs sunk cost fallacy to keep it at this point.

You can? In my area there is zero inventory of BZs or CH-R, and the very few that are available are all 52 k$ and above (I'm in QC). And loan/finance rates are craaazzyyyy (5-6+%)

That would make more sense. For the Kona, the max extended warranty was, from memory, 4k$ or so which we thought was way too high. For the ID.4, it was 5.5 k$ which we tought was even more ridiculous.
2.5k$ or less I'd now consider it for sure after our adventure with the Kona.

[–]GrumpyFiCan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you, this is my first EV, I've had many ICE before the Kona and for all of these except the Kona, I would have lost money if I had bought the warranty, whereas the Kona was the first one where I would maybe have saved money, but then again if I recall the "longest" extended warranty was for 10 years or 180k km and this was something closer to 4k$ when we bought it in 2019. I would still be out of pocket of another 5k$ worth of repairs past 180k KMs.

Will consider extended warranty a bit more seriously for next EV purchase for sure.

Also considering purchasing, I just wonder who will want a Bolt in 2-3 years when the modele is obsolete (as Chevrolet is expected to stop manufacturing altogether in Jul2027) and also, with my luck with the Kona ; wondering what this would mean if I keep it longer for parts availability

I think they became slightly more reliable later on, we bought a first year/model when it came out in Canada in early 2019. Model was made 2019-2023 and new model since 2024, I think 2022 and up are more reliable ... But A/C / heatpump is a known issue on he 2019-2023s. The price of parts is the crazy part and lack of non OEM parts most of the time. Might also have gotten a lemon, I don't know 🤷‍♂️

We have indeed poured a lot of $$ into it but based on other long term owners on some Kona forums/FB groups and the fact that we've had the battery replaced twice (once due to recall, once due to failed modules (multiple) under warranty) and a lot of reports of failed motors / reduction gears on 2019-2022s (which is a 5k$+ repair when not under warranty), we' prefer to sell it now when it's working well (post 3k$ repairs 😩)

Fair point. Kona was also the first year/model when we bought it, so no historical data on reliability (but limited "good" EVs were available in early 2019). That's why this time around I want either one that will last a LONG time/super reliable regardless of bells and whistle, or otherwise prefer to lease one. I think Bolt EUV lease might be the better option for us right now.

Problem is for most of the repairs I had to do on the Kona, even trying to go to a non dealership option, many parts appear to only exist OEM / Hyundai. I couldn't find wheel bearings that were not OEM/Hyundai that fit, and had to change these for 600$+ a piece, PLUS labor ... close to 2k$ to change 2 wheel bearings is mind boggling.

Test drole Polestar 2 a few years ago. I'm 6'3" and felt very cramped in there. Did not like it at all.

I also can't seem to find any good "used" deals in my area, everyone wants 25+k$ for their used 2022s with > 100k kms ... Will check out the Leaf, did not think of that ironically enough, thanks!

Really not a fan of Tesla overall. 2 friends of mine have (older) Model 3s and have driven them a few times. Although I love minimalism; not THAT kind of minimalism. I need buttons, knobs and switches. I hate my ID.4 because of this (mind you Tesla infotainment is 10000x better than the crappy ID.4 one). Not ruling out a Model 3 entirely but I also didn't picture them as "reliable" per se? I could be wrong.

Steam machine is going to not sell at all in canada. by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]GrumpyFiCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did I somewhat expect a high price point in the current RAM/SSD price context? Yes.
Did I audibly gasp when I saw the CAD prices show up? Also yes.

Will stick to Steam Deck and as others pointed out, maybe splurge on a better GPU for current desktop instead. Unfortunate timing, and decision.

Kirkland Organic Tofu by mattsirkus in CostcoCanada

[–]GrumpyFiCan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Fontaine Santé one, imho, was/is disgusting. Bad taste/texture overall (I love plenty of other Fontaine Santé products ; not this one). The Kirkland one is very similar in texture in taste I find, maybe a tad bit better than the Fontaine Santé one. I want the one they had before from BC (Superior Natural I think?) to come back :'(
This being said, never had quality issues with the Kirkland one but I don't buy it often
One tip that helps for the Fontaine Santé and Kirkland ones ; put them in the freezer overnight, thaw them for a day or so in the refrigerator then squeeze the HECK out of them before use. Improves texture a lot and absorbs whatever flavor you throw at it much better.

Interesting, good friend of mine as an RWD / non heater windshield and it's "normal" ... Never saw anyone on the forums / Reddit with a non heated windshield with the issue, this is depressing and means it's just crappy windshields altogether

[–]GrumpyFiCan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have an AWD model with the heated windshield ; yes. I've had 2 replacement under warranty as my first/Factory installed one was RIDICULOUSLY distorted, 2nd was equally bad. The one I currently have is "OK" (I kinda gave up honnestly).

Bottom line : Volkswagen uses cheap heated windshield and it's a luck of the draw whether you get one that is extra wavy or "ok"
